7-Eleven Digital Gift Card Not Working at 7-Eleven Nor EG Ampol

ADAGCHS

Is anyone else having issues with the 7-Eleven Activ Digital Gift Card from Cashrewards from this deal?

I tried using it on 2 different 7-Eleven and also on EG Ampol, and it didn't work. In all those occasions the card wasn't recognised.

I tried calling activgiftcard but they were not helpful at all as they said they required the PCN before they could assist. But I never received the PCN for the card from Cashrewards. I'm planning to try contacting Cashrewards, but with them closing down business I'm honestly not keeping my hopes high. And it's also probably been too long for credit card charge back.

Does anyone have any suggestions what is best to do next? The value of the gift card is $200!

  • How did you use it? It looks you don't know as there's no key word mentioned. I only see the possibly misleading word "gift card".

    • I used google wallet and tried entering the details manually too. Neither worked.

I can't even check the card balance on activgiftcard website either despite entering all the correct details.

      • Expiry date 04/28, not 4/28.

        • The card I have doesn't have CVN, so the login only requires the card number and PIN, no field for expiry date.

Do you see the following error message when trying to check the balance on https://www.cardbalance.com.au/?

We are unable to process your request at this time. If you continue to receive this error, please contact Cardholder services by calling the number on the back of your card.

If you do, refresh the page, and you should see a prompt to complete a puzzle to prove you are not a bot. If you then re-enter the gift card's details, the website should show you the balance and transactions. Also, if you are using a VPN, disable it, because that balance check website does not place nicely with VPNs.

Next question: how is the gift card stored on Google Wallet? Is it a Payment Card or a Gift Card?

        • It says "Please enter a valid PIN", which is weird because I was able to check the balance about 2 weeks ago when the card was declined the first time.

The card is stored as Payment Card.

@Banana3: The only way I can bring up the Please enter a valid PIN error on that website is if I attempt to check the balance on the wrong section of the website by entering a PIN that is less than four digits long.

The gift card you have should a CVN, it is just that Cashrewards for some reason referred to the CVN for prepaid Mastercard/Visa gift cards sold on their platform as the PIN. I just checked the balance of the 7-Eleven digital gift card I bought during that April Cashrewards deal on the balance check website by entering the card number, expiry date and CVV2 (i.e. "PIN"), and I was able to see the balance and transactions on the gift card. I then tried to enter it into section where you only need the card number and PIN, and I got the aforementioned error.

(If you were wondering, I used my 7-Eleven digital gift card from that April deal at a Shell Reddy Express via Apple Pay a number of months ago.)

            • @WookieMonster: Yes! That works. I was using the 3-digit number as PIN and like you said got the invalid PIN error. I'm now able to check the balance, at least I know the card is still recognised and not hacked or anything.

I'll try going to Reddy Express and see if I can get it to work.

              Thanks heaps for your assistance!

                @Banana3: No worries.

A couple of other thoughts I had:

                • Do you usually use payment cards on Google Wallet (other than 7-Eleven digital gift cards)? The errors you were describing in your forum post sound as though the EFTPOS terminals at 7-Eleven and EG Ampol were having problems reading the data from your device, rather than any specific issue with the gift card itself. That could be due to the EFTPOS terminal detecting at least one other NFC-enabled card near your device's NFC antenna, or it could be due to the fact that you are not holding your device's NFC antenna close enough to the NFC reader on the EFTPOS terminal, etc.

                • It could also be due to bad luck. For example, when I was at an Ampol Foodary last week and went to tap my Category Choice Fuel gift card - another Activ-type Visa gift card - stored on Samsung Wallet, the EFTPOS terminal returned a multiple cards detected error (even though my there were no other NFC-enabled cards near my device), but when I moved the device away from the EFTPOS terminal and then tapped again, it worked fine.

Why does the 7 ELEVEn logo have a lower case n?

  • I face the issue to check the balance today, and I got this error message on check balance site "We are unable to process your request at this time. If you continue to receive this error, please contact Cardholder services by calling the number on the back of your card." Anyone can help?

    • Hi, have you tried WookieMonster's trick above? Refresh the page, and you should see a prompt to complete a puzzle to prove you are not a bot. If you then re-enter the gift card's details, the website should show you the balance and transactions.

      • It works for me on the first attempt. Then it stop working..
