Not a ATL but seems like a reasonable deal for an older Dyson.
Unsure if it has enough suction to lift a bowling ball?

Let me guess, your miele from the 1920s is cheaper and does a better job?
Lol try V7~12s at half price or less. No need to be disingenuous my bro. Be pro-consumer.
Any Dyson at half the price of this V15 will come with a performance drop.
@Signet: Lol, what do you have to back that up when you have this guy who did the tests for the V15 vs V11 and then expand it transitively from V11 to V6 here
@marshmall0w2: Remember we’re talking about “V7~V12s at half price or less.”
So that means a V7 or V8, let’s look at the V8.
According to your guy the V15 outshines the V8.
@Signet: True, if you consider hardwood. But it's usually the carpet that I'm looking at, not the hardwood. And based on the carpet, there ain't much to go from a $300 Dyson vacuum to a $849 Dyson vacuum.
Also, the Modern Castle test explicitly mentions that their V6, V7, and V8 tests did not use the “Fluffy” soft roller head, which is Dyson’s hard floor-optimized attachment.
So the difference is even less because the performance would've uplifted.

Where can I get a V12 for ~$450 brand new?
If I genuinely ever need to clean properly, the $49 Kmart vacuum does a better job than this for me.
Dyson’s are just good for a quick vacuum. They’re a very very very good marketing gimmick (I have one of these via a house gift) and it amazes me people hav normalised paying $800+ for a vacuum whilst screaming cost of living crisis. It’s not just vacuum, it’s things like phones, cars, headphones, computers everything.
People feel the need to have the best all the time for basic utilities.
I would personally never pay for one of these having used one.
I bought the Lubleulu or whatever the name is from an older deal for like $70 shipped. It's been working wonders for my use. When I can buy 11 of those for the price of one of these…
$800 for a stick vacuum made of plastic is just insane. The amount of money people are spending on basic stuff doesn't make any sense.
But marketing works that way unfortunately. Instilled the moment they are born.
Too much
Amex have a 6% back over 499 Spend at the moment until 31/10/25
The old bowling ball trick, I do miss Godfreys
my V8 since 2018 is still running well. Just did one battery replacement
Could you tell me where you got the battery replacement from as I have a V7 that seems not to charge anymore? Have looked at dyson website about $150 or bunning around $60 so not sure what to do. thank you
Do you own any 18v tool batteries?
Bunnings $65 easy swap in and out with a couple of screws
3rd party but works well in my V8
For eBay plus members I’m seeing $70 off with “PLUSAVE” code
The deal sucks.
Are any of the cordless stick vacuums powerful enough to to lift a bowling ball?
I reckon the Dyson can do it.
We have a big ball for proper rug/carpet cleaning and this for a quick round.
Prior to the v15, had a Xiaomi one - battery doesnt last long, and suction is not as good as this one.
Not many other comparable wireless options available.
I went from a V10 to this machine.
Negatives:
- The carpet head easily jams even on low pile rugs and trips the machine. If the head stops it needs to be turned off and on again to get it going. I need to turn down the suction from automatic to low and keep the speed up to avoid it jamming. Forget about vacuuming loose blankets as it will just suck them into the head and trip unless you are always pulling them tight.
- The balance of the machine is way out and puts an annoying twisting motion on your wrist. Not a problem with the stick heads as you just lean the machine on the floor, but annoying when using free hand with the attachments. It's not really about the weight, more about the twisting.
Positives:
- Way more suction that V10
- the particle sensor works well, handy to tell how long I should be vacuuming carpets.
- The green laser on the fluffy head really does show up all the dirt on the floor. Didnt realise the tile floors had paint specs all over them until this head highlighted them.
All up - I would see if the next model addresses the jamming and balance issues and maybe go for that. It is better than V10 due to the high suction and green laser, but for the price it shouldn't have any negatives.
Thanks for the review. My biggest gripe after using my parents v10 is that they use a trigger mechanism. My finger is sore after a few mins so i refuse to buy one without an on/off switch. Unfortunately that means i need to wait for a special on the Gen5detect or v16 as there's no way i'm paying retail on these things.
I recently replaced our DC35 and had been leaning towards the gen5 mainly because of the button - and on sale it was nearly the same price. After having a play with one in store though I found the button on the gen5 just sucks in it's own way as its way too far to reach with one hand, so stopping/starting is a two handed job - much more of a pain if you want to lift something up and quickly vacuum under it.
In the end we went with the v15 and I just printed a trigger lock mechanism for it. Grip isn't as ergonomically optimised as it would be without a trigger at all, but it's better than a two handed on/off.
Just googled dyson trigger lock, looks better than my velcro suggestion below, ha. Nice.
In the meantime, try this for holding it on. Yeah so dumb to not have the option.

Works a treat. Velcro but easier. Can also buy the stuff in a larger roll & cut to a good shape/width.
Edit: or buy a Googleable "trigger lock"
Apart from Kmart any good Chinese stick vacs people would recommend?
No it's not.
