I've been looking for a new Wifi 7 Router that supports 2gbit NBN connections. Tried the Flint 3 and was very disappointed in the wireless performance.

Reviews are very good on the ASUS RT-BE88U, as long as you don't care about the 6ghz band, which I read really is only useful in the same room.

1 x 10Gbps for WAN/LAN, 1 x 10Gbps SFP+ Port, 1 x 2.5Gbps for WAN/LAN, 3 x 2.5 Gbps for LAN, 4 x RJ45 10/100/1000Mbps for LAN, USB 3.2 Gen1 x1

2.4GHz 4x4
5GHz 4x4

According to CamelCamelCamel, 2nd lowest price ever. Cheapest was $438. Yesterday it was $599 and earlier this week $609. So it's actually a much bigger discount than listed on it's Amazon Page, around 26%.

Price History at C CamelCamelCamel.

    Still a bad deal

    • Why?

      • I wish they had a solid model (not the be92u) with tri band around 550. Not paying 900 for top dog model. Still a great model for dual band though they messed up their wifi 7 offerings i say.

      • Missing 6 GHz band.

  • Cheers! Great finding, I was actually waiting this model on the discount.

  • Remember the WiFi 7 router is only so good as the receiver WiFi adapter can receive. You could buy this BE7200 router but the WiFi 7 receiver adapter may not be capable of receiving the full speed. You may only get a fraction of the speed of this routers capability from the adapter. For example the TP-Link TBE400UH BE6500 USB adapter i got is only rated to receive at 2880 Mbps through 5 GHz even although my router is BE6500.

    • Our Google 4K streamer (wifi 5) gets 400 Mb/s using the BE88u (wifi 7) and 350 Mb/s using the older AX88u (wifi 6).

Yes your devices limit the total speed that can be achieved… but the newer wifi standards result in faster transfer rates even on older devices.

We paid $423 for a BE88u on Amazon last month.

We needed the faster ethernet to take advantage of the NBN speed increase to 2 Gb/s (we were on 1000/50)… as the AX88u only has 1 Gb/s ports.
The faster wifi was just a bonus.

If we sell the retired AX88u router for $200 (already have one or two buyers lined up)… upgrade cost is $223… which is modest.

      :-)

I get about 110MB/s max download (WiFi 7 5GHz) through my TP-Link TBE400UH BE6500 USB adapter and WiFi beamed from my ASUS TUF-GAMING BE6500 router from one side of the house to the other (wooden walls). So i guess it's not too bad.

        • Annoyingly the wifi 6 USB adapter and the wifi 6 on our laptop are both MUCH slower than the wifi 5 on the Google Streamer and Chromecast.
It obviously depends on the way the standard is implemented.
My sisters phone gets 700 Mb/s and is presumably wifi 7.

Amazon pulling shenanigans again. Regular price $599, was $519 (the old regular price just before the Prime sale began), marked down to $444 on Amazon Prime only deal. Inflated jacked up regular price much. Make the Prime sale look much better because you look at the regular price just below even though that's a jacked up price during this sale.

  • According to reviews it's very unlikely you will be able to get the full 2gbit over single client Wifi. It gets close though at ~1800mbps close range.

  • Amazon wont deliver to my address in NSW. I cant check out with the router.

    • That's a shame.

Do you have any Amazon Parcel Locker nearby? . If so perhaps you could try to see if the ordering system would allow delivery to that Amazon Parcel Locker even if it's in a neighbouring suburb or some where else you can get to. It's exactly what the Amazon Parcel Locker is there for. It may give you a chance of getting this.

Otherwise keep an eye out in case another store drops their price on this router to match the Amazon price.

    • Same, really disappointing. 3 different items in cart sold by Amazon AU, none will ship. Prime membership is becoming a waste of money at this point. 20000 people live here and no pickup point. Items not sold by Amazon AU seem to ship fine.
