Cheap price for eneloop AAA. ATL it seems for this pack. Camels didnt track it well and there are no other posts on here for this pack. Doesn't seem to be going fast but I feel it might later on. Goes well with this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/925451. There are some better chargers on amazon if you like to tinker with the settings.

Yeah I want to post that but I'm to stupid to understand battery chargers.

      • +1

I do want something to replace the basic eneloop charger that takes forever. But i too am stupid to understand chargers.

I need it broken down into…this one = more good

        • +1

Define "forever". A few hours sounds slow compared to the marketing for some chargers but if you charge batteries too quick they get hot and you'll steadily reduce the overall life.

          • @dufflover: For NiMH it's usually the other way round. You want to be charging at at least 0.5C for the charger to detect that voltage/temp dip that signals end of charge. So that's about a 2 hour charge.

It's the very slow overnight chargers that work purely on a timer that you want to avoid as they will overcharge batteries unless they are totally flat.

          • @dufflover: I mean just me being impatient. I think my bigger issue is with the one i have you cant charge just one battery. It has to be in pairs. Are there any chargers that just let me charge one at a time

      • Admittedly annoyingly confusing. Essentially a combination of whether it only supports NiMH or Li-ion too, and whether it has smart charge detection or one-shot, and whether the charging is 0.5A or 0.75A, discharge of 0.3A or lower, etc. So much bullshit.

        • What do you think about this? Seems to have more features than the one you linked. It is only 2 slot though https://amzn.asia/d/2TaqPw9

          • @HaydosK: That's much better. It's the VX2 Pro. For +$15 it's much more decent. If the sole batteries you use are the Eneloops, then probably unnecessary.

            • @marshmall0w2: Well I might want li-ion in the future idk. I am yet to find something that's not compatible but I'm afraid it will happen someday.

      • Too* Checks out.

        • +1

I wrote it fast. I know too is the correct spelling 🤣

    • All the XTAR chargers I've seen are slow for NiMH AA and AAA batteries. Fine if you have the time and want to extend the life of the batteries. Also good for checking capacity. Not a fast charger though. You use to be able to get some very good fast chargers at Jaycar but they're long gone.

    • Would this be better than the eneloop smart charger and AA battery deal in the link above?

      • I think it gives you more options but the smart charger is still good and its what I'm using rn. Its set and forget. If you want lots of different functions and features get an xtar or the lii-500 as I have seen people recommend here.

        • Thanks, yeah seems too smart for me. Will grab the other. Cheers

          • @Owgasm: What one are you grabbing? If you mean the Panasonic charger try price matching to tgg. It worked for me and I got to use my 90 day cash so it was a win.

        • What functions and features does a battery charger need? Don’t you just want to charge and use and charge and use?

Is there a guide for battery chargers out there for a layman like me

          • @cloudy: Its just about charge rate and making sure it doesn't over heat. I think the deal I linked in this post is a good charger.

There are too many chargers and whenever I try and ask why I should get a certain one it's not always clear and some have downsides. I'm not good enough with electric stuff to understand it tbh.

  • I find with my rechargeables that they often don’t have full capacity or don’t work in some devices because they don’t have enough power. I fully charge them with my charger before I use them but often wondered if there is some sort of limitations on using rechargeables with some devices?

    • +2

Ah yeah. From my understanding they run at 1.2v compared to 1.5v of normal disposable ones and some Li-ion batteries which causes some compatability issues with devices that expect the full voltage. Stick with the disposables or look into the 1.5v rechargeables. You will need to make sure your charger can do li-ion also

    • NiMH or Li-ion, because most chargers work with 1.2V Li-ion but not 1.5V, whereas they generally work with all NiMH

  • Does anyone know much about the XTAR MC4S? I got one a few years back, not sure if I've been using it wrong, but my eneloop pros only last a few hours in the xbox wireless controller. The lights turn red when I reconnect the power in the morning (it's plugged into my monitor's usb port).

    • That's more for Li-ion and it's a discontinued product. Get the VX2 Pro the other dude linked above for $39. Or if you're only using Eneloops, use the one I provided for $24.

      • Oh I assumed they all charge rechargeable batteries lol Yeah I'm on Eneloops and LADDA. Thanks.

        • +1

Both those are NiMH so you can get the cheaper one.

    • I have similar issues with my Eneloop batteries from the Good Guys, which are 1.2V, cause the device thinks they are underpowered. My Energizer rechargeable batteries from WWS work much better in those cases compared to Eneloop.

  • Are these actually that much better than Amazon basics….?

      • Amazon basics are not IKEA Ladda.

    • yeah i would really like to know which are better, in terms of battery and value (given amazon ones are cheaper).

My two cents - I got the XTAR VX4 recently and it's been awesome. For those here having capacity issues, I have been using the regrade function which performs a capacity test cycle by fully charging, discharging at a fixed 300mA rate, and then fully recharging the battery. It's takes a while to complete but has most of my Enloop rechargeables back at full capacity and identified any duds. Batteries are working a lot longer in devices that issue a warning for low power, eg. digital door locks.

    • How long does it take to charge and how does it plug into the wall?

I've got a littokata similar and I don't use it as it takes forever.

      • Depends on the battery type and capacity, but a regular charge is very quick, less than an hour for all types I've tried, but regrading can take up to 10-12 hours which I usually do overnight. It plugs in via USB-C and I got the 20W wall adapter with it for an extra $5 at the time - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0D86TTFJV/

        • Ahh thanks.

I'm also getting the VX4 and VC4 mixed up.

Anyone got feedback on the VC4 speed and how it plugs in etc.

i wouldnt bother with these unless you use it for something like tv remotes, or headsets, other than that, they are useless. i wanted to use them in my lego battery packs but it doesnt last long or doesnt even work due to the size of the tip is either too small and not making contact in battery packs. i also find it doesnt really keep charged and drain flat to fast.

    • +2

Yeah that's exactly what I use them for. Tbh 10 is the perfect number and you won't have to buy disposables anymore.

      • +1

Is this the case for both AA and AAA?

I go through a lot of batteries for kids toys, and was thinking of buying heaps of eneloops.

Disposables seem to be a far better use for remotes, which go years without needing replacement

        • Well I have devices that use both. I haven't tried them with toys or anything like that unfortunately. It's mostly clocks and remotes. I only change them once a year also for the remotes.

        • I found some remotes just worked better with alkaline so swapped them to traditional ones. Saved the rechargeables for the higher drain stuff.

  • This is only AAA, do we expect a similar deal popping up for AA batteries?

    • I don't expect so.

  • +3

It's been a while since I've seen an Eneloop deal on Ozbargain. It made me start to question what the hell was going on here!

  • Already had some for various remotes and clocks, grabbed a pack to put in all my other various remotes, torches, and so fourth, whole home is now covered.

    Thanks OP
