Starlink Mini $449 (RRP $599) + Service Plan (Min $8.50/Month for Standby Plan) @ Starlink

71

You can run Starlink Mini on Residential, but it seems silly since it has the Router/WiFi built in so you would need more coverage etc (it does have an ethernet port).

Starlink Mini is best for roaming and travel. It can run on 12-48V systems and USB-C PD power sources.

Starlink Mini Roaming Speeds are a little slower compared to say a Standard Starlink Gen 3 Kit, but still plenty fast enough. You can view roaming speedtests here, it is on a Gen 3 Standard Kit though. But provides estimates.

When you are not using it, either cancel or put into Standby Mode ($8.50 AUD per month).

Not as cheap as the $299 Deal but still cheaper than $599.

Officeworks is the first retailer to drop their price. along with Harvey Norman @ $448 and Bunnings.

The referrer and referee receives bonus credit for a month of standard service, 30 days after the referee activates and keeps their Starlink. Referrals will only issue credits to Standard Plan (Residential) and Mobile Regional (Roam) subscriptions. Kits purchased from a retailer or reseller are not eligible for the referral program. No credit will be given even if a referral link was used during activation.

  • Starlink offered this to me for $0. Still didn’t take it. I imagine they have excess supply in Aus.

Starlink offered this to me for $0.

$0 providing you had a Starlink Residential Service.

      Still didn’t take it.

      Cool?

I imagine they have excess supply in Aus.

I doubt it that is the reason. They are doing specials globally in general.

No shade on your deal man. Just illustrating that they are in some capacity offering deals that are or have been far cheaper. I think personally the value proposition is poor given the likely upgrade that will follow soon to improve the mini’s speeds.

        • Just illustrating that they are in some capacity offering deals that are or have been far cheaper.

Yep and the $0 Mini deal was posted. However, not everyone has Starlink as their primary service so are not eligible. Plenty of people want just the Mini for their travel requirements. So whilst, yes, there is other deals/offers and it has been cheaper in the past, this is the cheapest the Mini has been in almost 12 months.

I think personally the value proposition is poor given the likely upgrade that will follow soon to improve the mini’s speeds.

          What upgrade might that be?

They offered you a loan unit for $0. You would never own it unless you pay for it.

      • +1

Exactly and you must retain your Residential Service. If you cancel the Residential, then you need to pay for the hardware or return it.

  • What is the $8.5 cost pm? Does that mean i only have to pay $8.5 and connect to the internet?

    • +1

The Standby Mode costs $8.50 per month and offers 1Mbps upload and download speeds. But is enough for emergencies like phone calls - https://starlinkinfo.au/faqs/starlink-standby-mode/ or https://www.starlink.com/au/support/article/37bb3b47-9525-72… will help.

Plans then go to $80 a month for 50GB or $195 for Unlimited.

The Standby Mode costs $8.50 per month and offers 1Mbps upload and download speeds.

        It's 0.5Mbps BTW.

        • I got 1Mbps on mine.

          • @geekcohen: I'm on it right now and Speedtest reports 0.54Mbps down, 0.42Mbps up.

            • @eug: My Mini is packed away. But this was my Speed Test that I did take a screenshot.

              • @geekcohen: Well.. Starlink advertises 0.5Mbps so I wouldn't tell people to expect 1Mbps. They would be disappointed if they bought it expecting 1Mbps and only got half the speed. If they buy it expecting 0.5Mbps and get 1Mbps instead that'd be a bonus.

            • @eug: Regardless, it is very slow and only usable for phone calls. Its a stupid plan in my view and I think just more of a money grab.

              • @geekcohen: surprisingly youtube at 320p works on this.
maps, music streaming, messaging, even facetime calls work.

One device at a time of course but amazing how many things are actually optimised for such a slow network. $8.5 for this service is a bargain.

              • +1

@geekcohen: It's OK in some situations… like if you're camping and all you need is to keep in touch with messages and sending some photos back and forth it works fine. YouTube works at 480p, if higher resolutions are needed they can be downloaded.

I can understand why they did it though. The dishes are very likely subsidised, if everyone bought one and just kept it in a cupboard 11 months of the year they'd probably be losing money on it, or not making enough to make it worth it.

      • Just for clarity - standby mode does not provide 1 Mbps as you stated nor does it provide 0.5 Kbps as the first link you posted claims. It offers speeds up to 500 Kbps.

        • Yes, that is true. But every test I have done has provided 1 Mbps, and you can see the test hard limiting. Unlikely to go below it.

    WTF - Demand Surcharge - $295

    • You must be selecting residential?

  • -4

Should add + Demand Surcharge in the title as well

    • It is not applicable to all areas. Demand surcharge should only apply to Residential.

  • Have a look at some past starlink mini deals, i hope it comes back to 250 mark as i am holding on to pull the trigger.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/starlink%20mini%20t…

This isn't great deal but if you want it in 2-4 weeks time. Go for it.

    • +1

100% not as good as the $299 special but it is the cheapest it has been since. I suppose it depends on whether you're willing to gamble and potentially wait for another $150 reduction. Starlink specials are hard to judge and just happen; there is 0 warning.

Many are spewing that they didn't pull the trigger on the $299 deal. So $150 reduction is a start.

i hope it comes back to 250 mark

I don't believe that the Mini has been that low. The lowest it has been is $299. The Standard Kit has been $149, but that isn't exactly travel friendly like the Mini.

      • +1

You are right that was a typo (i am hoping to get to 250 though).
        Cheapest was 297$ effectively https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888047

And yes sales are a little un-predictable, lst time. bought full proce because i was travelling to perth by road and this deal came. i just returned the hardware at the end of my trip and starlink reimbursed full money.

Not the best deal ever but if you need one now it's the best deal.

Can knock 5% off with an Officeworks price match to Hardly Normal.

  • Does this discount combine with referral links?
Can you buy the hardware only, or is the cheapest option $449 + $80 Roam plan for one month?

    • Does this discount combine with referral links?

      Yes

Can you buy the hardware only

Yes, but you need to change the plan to Standby mode once its been linked to your account. You don't get charged the plan until you turn it on or after 30 days delivery, whatever comes first.

Alternatively, you can get just the hardware from Officeworks for $449.

still waiting for the $299 to come back…..
