Very good bang for your buck air CPU cooler. Better than the ID-COOLING FROZN A620 PRO SE I listed a week ago. Aethetics are slightly worse in my opinion. I did end up going with Thermalright Phantom Spirit myself.

With all CPU coolers, check the dimensions and clearance so that they fit your case and other parts like RAM.

Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Digital ARGB Black CPU Cooler for $57.27
If people want pretty ARGB lights and a digital temp display on their dual tower cooler. Slightly worse performance than the Phantom Spirit SE.

Thermalright Frozen Prism 360 Black for $71.92
Those needing a 360 AIO can get this very cheap 360mm AIO CPU Cooler. There are worries as to the longevity of the pump though, no reports yet as far as I've seen. And acoustics are worse than other 360mm AIOs, but thats the corners being cut for a cheap AIO. Gamer's Nexus Review

Agree, it's one of the best air coolers.

  • Is there a way to validate these parts are legit?

    • … What?

Not sure what you mean. Like the seller is legit or?

    • +9

Have bought a number of Thermalright products from suomole over the last few years and have had no issues - all have been legit.

      • How quiet?

        • +1

I had to replace the fans on mind. Great cooler performance, noisy fans. Once I replaced the fans I had fantastic performance and I can't hear anything.

Seems its a bearing resonance issue around 1100-1250 RPM.

          • @JSONBourne: What fans did you use? I've been considering doing so later down the line when i feel the itch of upgrading my PC.

            • +4

@Badger2066: I got the be quiet! LIGHT WINGS ARGB 120mm PWM. Well reviewed. Very happy with them, extremely quiet.

Also purchased some rubber gaskets to put between the fans and the heatsink to reduce vibration too. I have a sensitive ear.

      • +1

Can confirm, same as well. Was great when I had an issue and had to swap a fan too.

Running smoothly in my Dan A3 build. Great value. Can't believe I paid almost 3x for a Dark Rock Pro 4 a couple years back.

    • What CPU/GPU are you using in this case? I was eyeing up this exact combo but was leaning towards AIO because it's a smaller case.

      • +2

The case can fit anything, it's awesome. I have the Dan A3 with phantom spirit on a 9800X3D, paired with a TUF 4080 (which is a monster at 348 x 150 x 72 mm)

Runs cool and quiet, my fans are set to never go over 1000rpm to keep noise down, and CPU sits around 60-70c while gaming with GPU well under 70c. I even have an ATX power supply as I downsized from a full size tower.

      • Did a similar build to jk, agree the case is pretty awesome. Interestingly I also purchased the Phantom spirit SE, coming from a dark rock pro 4 which didn't fit the new motherboard.

The case Fits a 9950x3d, a 4090, all running cool and pretty quiet once the fan curves are tweaked. Impressively the Phantom spirit keeps the 9950 at around 85-90 degrees full tilt with PBO at 240 watts.

Word of warning if you want a 360 AIO, you'll most likely need an SFX PSU. Would have gone with that if I didn't already have a perfectly serviceable ATX one. Pretty sure a 240 fits with full size ATX

Edit - gaming temps also 60-70 for the CPU and around 70 for the GPU

The goat of coolers. I think there's a newer model out now but this one is still great.

    • +4

There is the Royal Pretor 130 on sale as well, which is supposed to be the next evolution of sorts, but its got quality control issues with some reviewers seeing worse performance than the Phantom Spirit.

There is also the Phantom Spirit 120 EVO, but that one is not on sale and isn't worth the price premium on the SE model in my opnion, aside from the improved looks and aesthetics.

      • Thanks for the mini review! Will keep it in mind

I got the A620 a few months back only because I couldn't source a PS in time to complete my build (Perth).

I ended up dropping the A620 and it bent a bit! I bent it back into shape (still a little wonky), chucked it in my machine and it has been running fine - but maybe I will use this as a chance to change my wonky cooler.

    • If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

  • I ended up buying the RK120se for $46 yesterday (couldn't wait). I wanted better clearance for the nr200 case. The PA120mini is also on sale at $52.71 which is also a good deal https://www.amazon.com.au/Thermalright-Peerless-Assassin-Coo…

  • Am I looking at any noticeable improvements swapping out a Deepcool AG620 for this? Like the other bloke, these weren't available when I built last year.

    • +1

An improvement sure, but not one you would notice day to day playing games or just using your PC. Stick with the AG620.

    • +1

Measurable, maybe, but noticeable - probably not? Maybe <5 degrees (controlling for noise levels) in a best case scenario if you're blasting 200+W through the CPU. They're both dual tower coolers with 120mm fans so there's only so many design improvements that you can make in a comparable form factor.

Bought one from last deal back in July, can confirm this thing is ez taming 9800X3D out of box.

  • +1

This actually just went on my wishlist yesterday. Thanks OP!

  • Running this cooler. Great cooler. Great price. Pair with my amd 7700 in a lian li a3. Great fitment and great performance for the dollar value. Install is easy too.

  • +1

Good cooler, I have it on my son's PC.

  • ill be buying a Ryzen 5 7600x, wont be overclocking, is this over kill?

    • +2

Yes it's over kill. But what's the price for other coolers, $35-40? Saving $10 isn't much, and with this one you can upgrade to CPU with more cores or x3D later. Not to mention Australia's summer can be up to 41 degree…

  • +2

1/5 the price of a Noctua NH-D15 G2, CPU coolers are neck to neck now, surely the Noctua can't be twice as good, let alone 5 times the cost.

Guess there are always people willing to pay a huge premium for marginal improvement.

Would happily go with Thermalright if building a PC now.

    • Noctua fans are quieter.

However, they don't make their own fans in Austria anymore. YS Tech does, which you can find on Alibaba if you want to save some money.

  • +1

Running this on my 9800X3D and it's a beast. Doesn't go over 70 degrees.

Just note that the front fan will overhang your RAM and any higher than about 30mm will force you to place the fan slightly higher, increasing the overall height of the cooler. May be worth considering if you're putting this in a smaller case.

  • I have this on my 7700X. The CPU will still ramp up to 95 degrees, is this normal?

I have trouble when researching online it seems like that's expected behavior for the CPU.

Edit: Ramp up I mean when stress testing the cpu.

  • Used this for my brother's Ryzen 5 7500F, stock amd cooler let temps rise to 95c during cinebench multi-core benchmark, slapped this cooler on, max temp never above 72c, its a great cooler although on the bigger side.
