Remote Garage Break and Enter PSA

Last night and neighbour had their garage raided. According to another neighbours CCTV the thief arrived by e scooter around 2am, faffed around for while and tested the car in the driveway before operating a 'device', possibly a phone, and remote opened the garage door and stole two ebikes.

Not sure wether the thief had previously cloned the garage door, or knew what model the door controller was and worked it out from there.

It certainly seemed like a scoped out job, the thief didnt seem to be randomly accessing the property. Unfortunately the neighbour does often have the garage open and the bikes are visible from the street.

Anyone else had experience of garage access by a device that isn't a regular coded remote?

If you would have taken the time to google you would know that most garage doors don’t use a rolling code to open.

    • Curious what do they use instead?

    arrived by e scooter
    stole two ebikes.

How does a thief ride off on 2 ebikes and a scooter?

Didnt get the details of that bit. Its possible there was a car waiting out of camera view.

Fief cloned the garage door, then cloned hisself as well.

Edit: one way to reduce the chances of this happening is to have a garage door that is squeaky and loud AF. Ozbargain garage alarm.

    problem solved.

Yep. This is the solution I took. Added a Tapo Mini Smart Wi-Fi socket to the Power Point and set it to turn off Power from 6.00 pm to 6.00 am each day. Works well and you can override using the App.

  • thank F mines a manual door!

  • I use a smart switch ( Google ) to turn off power to door opener. Since a neighbour installed new electric gates have had our door on occasions found open.

@sandman20104159: You are delusional if you think my post, with an invisible link, is educating thieves on how to open garages and steal cars. Wish I was this naive.

          • @sandman20104159: Oh FFS they already knew.

I don't pay attention to any of this stuff (cars, home security) and even I knew about this.
