  • Nice find OP

  • Can anyone confirm:
    1. Do they come with AU plug?
    2. Are they shuckable for a NAS?

    • +2

Generally you contact their customer support and they will send you an AU charge out at no cost. This still worked last time I tried in 2024.

may i ask should i contact wd or amazon? thanks

WD (I've commented on this in the past on ozbargain).
They will ship adapter and USB cable, you can combine if you have multiple disks.

          Here's the link

Sign Up for a Western Digital account (if you do not have one)
Once signed into the site go to https://support-en.wd.com/app/account/profile or just click "Update your Profile"
Fill in all the relevant fields like your address, then register your new WD 10TB drive "Register a New Product" you will find the information as a sticker on the rear of the external drive case
Then create a "New Support Incident" and then select the following options

          Product Type Other WD Products
          Operating System Windows 10
          Category Warranty & Replacement
Serial Number [Enter this info found on the sticker near the rear of your external HDD drive case]
          Firmware Version [Leave Blank]
          Summary Require Correct Power Adapter
Description Hello, I recently purchased the WD 10TB Elements Desktop External HDD through Amazon.com.au however the item came with a UK type power adapter. Could you I please receive an AU type adapter for this drive. Thank you. My Address Information: [List your address]

Western Digital support are really good at responding to your enquiries and will send out the correct power adapter for free but expect a longer wait time due to COVID-19. I know pre-COVID it was delivered within 10-14 days.

          Credit xecutor

Let us know if this is still valid, haven't used this in a while now.

          • @johnmelb: I’d like to inform you that Western Digital does not sell accessories directly. However, you can purchase the required cable separately, and you may also contact the place of purchase for assistance.

seems not to be valid now

            • @nowich: If only the specs for the adaptor were easy to find. 12v 100-240V 50-60Hz is all I've got so far. Required output Amps is what I need.

    $24.29 / TB

    • is that good or bad?

      • +14

Less than 20 is great, 20-30 is OK, 30+ is normal pricing.

        • thanks mate

        • I’d say it’s impossible to find anything brand new less than $20 per TB nowadays.

        • +5

In today's market id say increase those numbers by $5

          Less than $25 is great
          $25-$35 is ok
          $35+ is normal

  • how do you buy from US Amazon? I couldn't find the item on Australian Amazon.

    • yea same question, apparently you need to be a US prime member, I thought Amazon prime is like costco membership (works worldwide…)

      • +1

Nah, but I'm sure they wish it did since they are paying US$139 a year for Prime over there.

As for this one, the price in OP is the non Prime price (US$179.99). Select regular price to add to cart.

        • +1

Got one, thanks for your help

      • I had to click on other sellers options, then the amazon one became available at the top of the list.

      • If you haven’t used the free trial, you can get 30 free trial for Amazon prime for US.

    • I could add it to cart no problem.

    • just add it to the cart from amazon.com, no prime required

  • too bad I can't use Afterpay

  • +1

Thanks OP picked it up for $315 with prime trial.

  • The 12TB red seems to be $355 at the moment as well. Overseas thoughl; https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-12TB-Internal-Driv… .

  • So Amazon US can't use your Amazon Aus gift card balance?

    • +3

Nope, nor your Medicare card either

  • These are solid helium drives. I've got 8 which are a mix of edfz and edgz. Had them running for a few years 24/7

Picked up 2 more, for $322.

    Thanks OP

    • +2

I bought two as well. It's weird that the shipping more than doubles so it actually works out cheaper buying them in two separate orders.

      • Nice one. Dodge the Amazon bum ✊

Seagate 26TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive deal is also back in stock
    USD342 (~AUD521delivered) works out AUD20 per Tb

  • +1

Signed up for US Prime free trial and went down to $322.85 for me.

  • If anyone is looking to buy from the US these guys are not too bad: https://www.ebay.com/str/goharddrivewholesaleandretail

Some are refurb, some are new but a lot come with 5 year warranty. None of this new egg BS farting around.

Fairly consistent pricing, some good deals.

Obvious not as good as this deal but for different capacity and/or vendors.

  • It’s showing as AUD258.14 for me, that can’t be right can’t it?

    • +1

      plus shipping, gst, fx gtee

      • Thanks

So you can login onto and use Amazon.com even though you only have Prime with Amazon.cpm.au?

  • Haven't seen this for a while now

  • Can you use an HSBC Everyday Global Visa Debit card and pay in USD to reduce the net AUD cost?

    • They give you an option to pay in AUD or USD. Just make sure you change to USD when making payment.

  • Thanks OP. Got 1. Is there any reason to keep the Prime US or do you guys just cancel the US Prime after delivery?

    • $14.99/month (plus taxes) (not sure USD or AUD). If USD, then that's quite expensive…. Unless you could put it on hold and resume when really needed, like during the Prime days or big sales.

  • Is this out of stock now? Would have loved to get one for backups for my photos and vidoes.

  • Tried to sign up for a free trial of Amazon US Prime but it kept giving me an error saying that I needed to change my google play country…

  • Why wouldn't you just get this one? isn't it cheaper and 18TB

    https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Desktop-Drive-Compatible-WDB…

    • What price have you got? I’m seeing USD269.99

  • To be honest, seems pretty expensive when you consider cost per tb at $24.28.

Usually consider these US import external HDD to be a good deal at $20 per tb.
