Anyone remember when these 18TB's were only $384 delivered? - Pepperidge Farm Remembers

    • +1

Yeah, IIRC I bout a couple of 18TB's for around that price a couple of years ago, during an OzBargain special. Shouldn't they be getting cheaper?

      • +1

As you get older everything gets more expensive.

        the pain is real.

Albo is Subsidising electricity storage, maybe we can convince him too subsidise data storage.

        • How about a solar powered hard drive?

    • Mine are still running and I'm scared of the day they die

    • +2

Yes I do. AHHH the good old days when were being ripped off but no where as much as today.

Paid $481 for one of these 16TB to shuck in Aug 2020. 5 years later it's only $2 cheaper, on clearance. Crazy!

I don't know why you had a downvote. that's a much better deal

I bought one of these on Monday for ~$450AU delivered. Still waiting for it to turn up but seemed like a good deal..

    • Fingers crossed for you, the reviews of that store are not fantastic.

I'm desperate lol…. free returns and shipped by amazon..

        • Keep an eye on the shipping/tracking info… a bunch of us had items not delivered from this seller recently and I had a hard time getting amazon to actually refund me

          • @badmedicine: So far so good.. currently in LA as it was shipped from Kentucky..

          • @badmedicine: That's the stories ive heard (and more) that scare me.

          • @badmedicine: @badmedicine why's that? nothing was shipped? or something was shipped but it ended up being a brick?

            • +1

@Vladdo: Not sure how they managed to achieve it but somehow the Amazon tracking info looked like the orders were on their way until they reached Australia, and then they became permanently "delayed". Aus post tracking showed the seller was "still preparing" the package.

        • I've ordered mine 3 weeks ago from the QuickDealStore. Then my order got stuck - the status was saying the order was delayed, then lost, then delayed again. The last location was Bella Vista, NSW. Contacted Amazon customer service 3 times asking for a refund - first they've asked to wait for 48h, then 10 business days, but today I tried again and they've finally provided me with the full refund. Sounds like something is wrong with this store - never dealing with it again. If something seems too good to be true, then probably it is.

        • The next few days will be interesting.. shows as scanned into a local distribution centre.

I shall film the unboxing as i don't trust what's in it..

          • @Vladdo: And delivered.

Delivered by amazon. Came in the seagate box with no outer packaging. Outer plastic wrap was slightly torn. The security seal was intact and labelled as 22tb drive. Unboxed without issue. Came with all plugs, ie, EU, US, AU plugs. Plugged into PC and now copying files at 240mb/sec.

No funny sounds and seems to be completely normal. It was 1 day late in amazon's delivery guestimate. Not bad :) I was going to buy a 18tb refurbished drive for $420 but for $450.. even better :)

If you're only after the drive, this 18tb seems a better deal

  • Will the plugs / power adapters (120Volts) work with the US stock, or you'd need to buy an adapter for it?

    • +2

These come with a 12v DC wall wort, 100-240v AC input. It's the kind of wall wort where the plug can be swapped, sometimes they have additional plugs (in particular the UK/EU models), but rarely is the additional plug an AU one. You can use it through a passive plug adapter, or you can contact WD and they will send you an AU plug to swap in for free. I've also heard of people contacting Amazon and being given credit as an "apology" for sending it without an adapter or a warning on the listing that you need an adapter
