Which Watch to Go for Next?

So I recently bought a $180 Orient, which I love.

And then a $300 Citizen which is nice ( I think that the orient is way more aesthetic).

Now what's the next 'big step'? I am thinking this seiko 'panda'….. Prospex Solar Chronograph Watch Panda Dial - https://watchdirect.com.au/products/seiko-prospex-speedtimer…

  • As someone who has spent far too much time and money collecting watches - take a pause and work out what you really like style wise.

Trying to grab stuff from different genres is the easy way to end up with stuff you don’t like or just meh a few years from now.

Don’t be in a rush to add stuff to a collection and make sure you really like it. I’ve ended up with a few things that I wouldn’t own again

That being said, that seiko is excellent! Gorgeous watch and I say this as someone who isn’t a fan of chronos (despite owning a couple).

  • I recently bought a $180 Orient

Was it Orient Chrono Solar Panda? My next target could be Orient chrono solar panda around the same price with green or navy colour. I don't have JDM and chrono yet … I prefer solar powered watches

    • No, the neo 70 - it's a really nice looking watch and looks better than the $300 citizen that I bought. Not that the citizen looks bad, it's just that the orient looks way more expensive than $180

  • ssc813p

    Th Speedtimer ssc813p is beautiful.

It is masculine, yet dainty and pert. I am a heterosexual male, but if I were to date a man I would want him to be like this watch, aesthetically and stylistically.

It is vintage and old fashioned. I'm old fashioned myself, so that appeals to me. It is secure without being gaudy, loud without having to shout…

It is a polite sexual liaison - without the trappings of erotica. There is no drama or window shopping, just raw pleasure.
It isn't the honey but the hive itself, if you catch my meaning.

    • Sold, I'm getting one.

    • I mean the Orient Neo 70 does look like the panda and it looks awesome. How is the ssc813p better than the orient, movement-wise.

  • I'm also looking at that one to replace my Seiko I bought in 1998 when I graduated high school.
I looked at in the Seiko boutique and really like it. Next, I'm going to have a look at this in person, and then decide: https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-au/T0356171603100.html

  • Speedtimer

  • No one can tell you what watch to get. It's a personal decision. It also depends on your budget

  • Hamilton Khaki Field Auto.

    • Or quartz, can be had for around $500 on a good deal.
It's a better grab and go and marginally smaller dimensions.

  • Every watch collection needs a Mickey Mouse watch.

If you Google 24k Mickey Mouse watch with wooden train, there's an awesome one on eBay

Mickey And Co Gold Limited Edition Watch And Collectible Wooden Toy

Sorry, can't work out how to get link here.

Or maybe that down there V works?

  • Fugu.

  • Definitely a Seiko Coutura. They are beautiful but only a ruggedly good looking guy can pull them off.

    • I am a ruggedly good looking guy fr though…

      • Then the Coutura is definitely for you.

        • Nope - I've decided to go for the classy look.

        • +1

Couturas are poo, but would go well with Nike Tns and a fanny pack.

Merged from Is This Watch Classy? or at Least Classier than a Citizen? Bulova

Is this an impressive watch? It costs $400 and the brand sounds exotic. What's everybody's thoughts?

Do you personally like the look of the watch? Does it pair well with what you wear?

Buying a watch because it's "impressive" is silly. Impressiveness is a never-ending piece of string. Different people find different things impressive, what impresses some people are tacky to others. All you can do is buy what makes you feel happy.

Realistically, if you want to impress normies, the only watch brand they will know is Rolex - everything else is just a watch. If you want to impress rich people (who don't know watches), then the only brand they will know is Patek. Obviously Rolex and Patek are respectively overvalued vs. their closest competition (arguably Omega in the case of Rolex, and Vacheron in the case of Patek) because of this cachet.

Bulova is not considered a luxury brand, and those watch styles tip between classic and outdated depending on subjective personal preferences.

      • I've got one Bulova but still don't know what to think of the brand. They seem to do alright at retro or vintage inspired pieces, otherwise a bit boring (and can't say I like the name really).

Their precisionist quartz movement with the smooth sweep is excellent though (I've got a Jet Star, the only Bulova I've owned).

That's not even in the Weekend Sale.

I'd get the Citizen Promaster Auto NY0160-66E for the same price… $399 delivered.

You might buy a fake watch online..not worth.

    • If you're buying a watch to look impressive, you need to add at least another zero. And then it'll look impressive to anyone who cares about watches.

Just buy a watch that looks nice. I've had people comment on my aliexpress watch before. But if it costs less than a decent smartwatch, don't expect to blow people away.

If you're buying a watch to look impressive, you need to add at least another zero. And then it'll look impressive to anyone who cares about watches.

Actually strong disagree on this one - expensive watches are only impressive to those who don't care about watches. Those who care about watches know that how much a watch costs doesn't mean anything.

I'm by no means the biggest watch connoisseur, but I love it when I meet people who are wearing quirky or vintage watches, particularly hearing about their stories and how they came to wear them. Always love the stories about the vintage watches that were a gift from a special family member (e.g. a grandparent, parent…etc.).

        • I get the impression you look at a wrist watch as a jewellery item. With looks and, more importantly, a history.
          And that is fine.

But I looked a wrist watch as a device, reliable and fastidiously accurate, to give me the fastidiously precise time (rather than ringing 1194).

Back to the OP's question, Bulova is a quality watch of unusual designs that introduced (? I think!) battery operated quartz watches … fastidiously accurate :-)

No one is going to be impressed by a Bulova my guy

The strap on my omega costs more than that watch and no one is impressed by it

By a watch for yourself, not other people

      • If I ever see someone wearing a Skmei 1628 I'm definitely going to talk to them.

        • +5

Every time I'm in Sydney I look for the guy wearing a Skmei 1628. We will meet in person one day.

    • If you are ruggedly good looking then this watch is a perfect match.

    • +1

It's ugly. The band is nice enough though if you kept it shiny.

    • If https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/927896
you have an Orient on one wrist and a Citizen on the other, a Bulova is only going to look **assy.

    • +2

      Just buy an invicta

      • +3

That Joker is one impressive piece.

        • +1

          You mean joka?

    • My first thought was it reminds me of a 50c coin.

    • +1

For that price, I'd suggest a Citizen Tsuyosa https://starbuy.com.au/products/citizen-tsuyosa-mens-automat…

Classy is about the individual watch and very subjective to each person. Citizen Watch Co owned the Bulova brand.

If you like that bulova watch, then go and get it, what matters is what you like.

    • If you want to buy based on what others think, then here's some videos for you to watch:
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHP_hDyGTjI
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EI4LaCHYbqg&t=2s

    • Bulova is a Citizen brand.
      Another branding gotcha!

  • Merged from Considering This as My Next Watch Purchase - Am I Hitting Classy Yet???

Simple, elegant, stylish - yay or nay? Any recommendations for similar watches?

whatever floats your boat mate. dw about anyone else.

    • Decent… but getting others opinions on what's "classy" or not should be what needs to change in your mindset. I've seen billionaires wearing 50$ casio watches (online of course lol) and actual friends going more and more in debt to buy a rolex to "flex".
Maybe I'm a bit older now, do what makes you happy, whether people like it or not, do it for you.
      Take care :)

      • I'm not trying to flex. These orient watches seem to be pretty decent in terms of overall function and aesthetics, and price.

I have a prient neo or some thign that cost $180 and it caught the eyes of a few people, as if it was more than that.

This isn't an expensive purchase IMO, it's a fashion piece - true?

    • Do you like it?

    • +1

Well,l it aint no Honda ZR-V, but it's ok.

Buy a watch because you like it, not to please other people.

    • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm

    • Where is the Crown logo?

    • For the same price, i rather go for a Seiko Presage, but each to their own.

    • I vote nay. Less features = more classy. Skeletonised of a basic movement = gaudy.

    • Just get a Seiko Coutura mate

      • I aint about that life no more - the cotura is so 2015….

  • Might be something you like here, Lorus from $69 delivered.
Seiko movements, proper steel cases — good value.
