Return Item within Amazon Save More Promotion

Hi

I attempted to purchase a $100 item on Amazon and discovered that by adding an additional $8.5 item to activate the 15% Save More discount, the total price would be reduced to $92.23.

After placing the order, I attempted to refund the additional $8.5 item prior to dispatch. Subsequently, Amazon deducted extra gift credits from my account to cover the price difference between $100 and $92.23.

I'm very curious to know what would happen if I were to request a chance of mind refund after receiving the goods. Return the $8.5 item and get no money in return, or even be charged extra after returning it?

You would’ve been better off, receiving the items, keeping for 7 days and then returning the not required one.

      • Genius, I will try it more often.

      • What, $8.50 at a time?

It does require a lot of discipline

    • Literally this. It's similar to how, if you are a non-Prime customer (who therefore does not get free shipping unless the order is over $49) and place an order over $49, then remove an item from the order before shipment bringing the order total below $49, they will charge you shipping

      • if you are a non-Prime customer (who therefore does not get free shipping unless the order is over $49)

Not being a Prime subscriber but using Amazon is insane to me. It's $6.50 a month with the annual plan, some individual order shipping is higher than that.

    • Why? What happens after 7 days?

      • they dont catch on

        • I was thinking they may tell you to far cough.

They are not going to return $8.50 to you for something you didn't pay for.

Haven't you already answered your question? They will charge the difference to your credit.

I don't really expect more when I'm already getting a discount. Just curious what this new transaction with the extra charge will show up as in the bank when the original transaction amount is already settled. As a "rubbish disposal fee" for throwing stuff to Amazon instead of the bin?

Was that the whole point of this exercise?

Where were the gift cards stored from which they charged the additional $7.73?

Wouldn't the charge just show as a reduction of $7.73 from your gift card total?

Not sure why anything would show up on your bank statement if nothing extra was charged to it. I'd expect it will still show the price of the original contract.

        • For gift card, if I really want to do the change of mind returns experiment, I'd use up all the gift card first. Maybe Amazon can just deduct the gift card to a negative amount?

          • @CmfhlTtU: Ahhh, so you haven't actually initiated the refund yet and had the extra $7.73 taken off your gift card?

Nah, if they were interested in changing the terms of the contract with you, they would charge you the total price to your gift card, then refund the initial payment back to from wherever it came.

What do you mean by negative amount? So you owe them money (like a credit card function)? Nah, they're not going to go for that.

If anything they will be doing whatever they can to keep your gift card in positive. Then there's a chance you may never use it and they score extra money.

  • Im curious about the chance of mind too.

  • You could probably get away with it a few times. Just don't be surprised if you find your membership suddenly restricted to digital items only.

Are you saying that you have cancelled the $8.50 item, thus are no longer expecting to receive it at all?

So, you're now only expecting whatever was included in the $100 purchase? Thus you have payed the $92.23 & the $7.73 to return total payment to $100?

If so, what are you wanting to return?

I'm very curious to know what would happen if I were to request a chance of mind refund after receiving the goods.

So you're expecting the $100 purchase and the $8.50 thing?

If this is the situation, I can't work out why they charged you the extra $7.77 to get it back to $100?

    • Well, I did miss one thing. When I realised that requesting a refund before dispatch would incur additional charges, I cancelled the whole order and placed a new one. It is still $92.23 and 2 items for now.

      • It is still $92.23 and 2 items for now.

So that's full price? No discount coupon applied?

What was your payment method. This is where any refunds will be applied.
