    Good headphones
These suit a larger head or you may find they fall off.

  • How do they compare to the Sennheiser HD 650?

    • +1

I think the comfort is a little bit better with them and you will have a more bassy sound even though they aren't really bassy headphones but they are quite closed in for open backs just like the 600 which I have. I use them for gaming as they are comfortable. Edition XS sound vs HD 650 is an easy win for the edition XS. Mostly because of how clean they sound and how much more open they are due to the cup design and planar driver.

I factor in considerations like long term reliability reports, availability of replacement parts, and the company not being complete dicks. Seems like these are not important criteria for most though.

So I own multiple sets Sennheisers, and have only ever bought one pair of cheaper HiFimans (the last out of curiosity, which I then gave away). HiFiMan and Focal (crazy replacement part prices) are the two brands I confidently have zero interest in owning.

      • Why do you need to buy replacement parts, if you own multiple sets of headphones?

        • +1

Earpads wear out over time. I've also bought replacement cables.

Last time I checked the replacement earpads for the Focals I was considering were USD200.

          • @rumblytangara: You can just buy replacement pads from ali for like 20 bucks

            • @remz22: Yeah, I buy cheapo Aliexpress pads for my cheapo knockabout headphones. None of them have been as nice as OEM pads, and there's a huge amount of analysis out there on how different earpads result in measurably different sound. If I have slightly higher end headphones I'd like to know what I'm putting on them.

        • +1

I have multiple pairs of Sennys. I've had my pair of HD-25s for 15 years, the parts that I've replaced are the cable and the earpads.

The cable was replaced because they were my DJing headphones for years and were not treated gently. The cable was accidentally yanked out of mixers a few times.

The earpads just degrade over time from general use. Apart from those minor issues, they're just as good as the day I bought them.

These are my end game. Have tried grado, some Sennheiser and a bunch of others. But these tick so many boxes for me so I'm done now. Mind you the headphones I've tried before these weren't crazy expensive. But at this price I'm beyond happy. These are perfect for me for gaming, movies and most importantly music. This price is a steal!

    • +3

Mine too, got them a few years back, gave up on the audiophile game that day.

    • +1

Grados gave me tinnitus. Stay away from them and they are bad value for money in terms of build

      • I actually liked the sound of them. But couldn't handle the braided damn cable. If it wasn't for that I'd probably still be using them.

  • Does it work well with a iphone 16?

    • They are analog headphones so it works with anything. You will need to buy an AMP/DAC adapter if you want to use it though because your iphone doesn't have a headphone jack.

      • I got the usb-c to headphone adapter thing so it should work / is that the same as a amp/dac? Or do they sell a plug to make it connect to a phone wireless?

        • +1

Yes. Is that the apple one? Also it doesn't work Wireless so you need to use it wired. They do make wireless ones but they are more expensive as they have to put more tech in it. I don't think they make wireless adapters for over ears also. These are open back so they leak sound so they aren't for outdoor use IMO.

  • Thanks OP. I was deciding whether or not to grab these or the Sennheiser HD490 but this deal made up my mind. Will try them and hope for the best! Shame there’s no cashback deal at the moment but still a great price!

    • +1

Nice. I'm sure you will enjoy them. Have you ever tried them before? They really are amazing.

      • No never! Excited to test them out. Hoping to upgrade my mixing setup

        • Oh you mix music? I have heard planar drivers are the best for that so I think you made this right decision. Want to hear what you think when you get them.

    • Don't forget payto also

  • +1

How would these compare to hifiman he-400i?

    • Edition XS are comparable to the Ananda which would be 2-3 grades higher in quality to the 400i or 4xx.

These would be most people's endgame for indoor use unless they were into audiophile headphones as a hobby in itself.

  • +2

    Amazing headphones.

Using them right now. The headband is a bit meh and they're very big. I nabbed a headband pad that wraps to give it a bit more comfort.

But I don't see myself changing for years. For reference I have srh840s and srh1840s as well. These are just so much more fun in general. Sound amazing. Amazing bass. So good.

  • I’ve heard people often get headband straps/bands for these because of comfort. Any recommendations?

    • Yep. https://amzn.asia/d/3we8R6u

Because the way it sits normally even at the lowest setting is too big for most. Also a strong pressure point. This helps lift em properly so the earpads aren't resting on top of your ears and tbh is more comfy than the stock pad.

Another benefit is you just wear a cheap headband you can replace later, rather than eventually wearing and peeling the headphones headband itself.

    • +4

I dunno how allowed this is (I marked myself as associated with amazon since I run the store) but I sell these https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0FVT745SR/ref=sr_1_2?th=1
Currently trying to get a sale up for any ozbargainers interested, should be 24.99 for the next few days
I'm very biased but I think they are really great, my Edition XS was borderline unusable for me before and now it's quite comfortable

      • I'd be curious how this would compare to the one I linked. Might help with weight distribution better! And probably wear less over time. Make it more like some other models with this design.

Yeah it flat out hurt my ears and head before I added the padded band lol

        • +1

Can't really say cause I never tried the headband pads. I get one or two extra adjustment steps up using the strap though and can get my ears positioned properly in the cups, otherwise without it the headphones barely stay on and there is a brutal hotspot right at the top of my head.

          • @The Candyman: Yes!!! Right in the centre.

It's literally like someone is just getting their thumb and pushing into the top of your skull. Haha.

Thankfully they sound amazing so with the after market bands makes em so good for the price… And I got mine when it was over 600 still. 350 had me tempted to buy another just because.

            • +1

@ReaperX22: Yeah they're really great headphones, still worth at 600. I had similarly priced headphones like Sivga Luan and was one of the unfortunates that bought a Grell OEA1 at launch price.. Edition XS is far far better

      • Definitely interested!

        • The hifiman strap fits on Beyerdynamics as well if you got a set of those lying about. Sweetens the 2 pack deal a bit!

      • Thanks for the link fellow ozbargainer!! I have placed an order!! 😊

        • Thank you! and thanks to the couple others who dropped orders too!

      • I've done a suspension strap mod myself but it's wearing out after a few years so will give this a go, order placed tyvm ;).

        • +1

Thanks :) I think these straps should last a good long while since they won't flake or come apart like pleather/leather

      • Can you set up mixed colour pairs? :)

        • Sure I'll let you know when I get around to it

  • +1

Omg nooo. I want these. And the 620s too. I’m gonna be broke 🥲

  • Been using these since it came out. At this price, they're an absolute bargain. Got rid of my Sundara. No need to think twice.

  • This or the Ananda only due to having a better headband … some reviews say the XS is a warmer sound but the headband comfort is a bit more important to me to be fair.

Anyone have tried both and can recommend which one?

    • +1

You can mod them. I haven't tried the anamda but I think the whole thing about this headphone is value so it's really up to you if you want to spend more of the ananda.

    • Mentioned above but just get these to offset comfort issues.

      https://amzn.asia/d/3we8R6u

Ananda is flatter sound. Xs is very fun and good for all music types but especially edm rock pop etc.

  • +1

Buy first think later guys! Because this is a limited deal, 83% claimed.
Reviews suggest that these are one of the best headphones under $500. Many people complained about QC, but this is Amazon, not Aliexpress so it should be fine if anything goes wrong!

    • You can always get these headphones at a cheaper price on Ali Express direct from the manufacturer.

      • +1

but not much cheaper than this, and because of the poor QC, I think buying on amazon at this price is safer

        • For sure, but there's no need for the FOMO.
I'd personally avoid Hifiman stuff all together because of the poor build quality. But hopefully their new 2025 product range has changed things.

      • +1

Lowest available right now is $375 Shipped to Melbourne with no local warranty.

The Amazon deal was a better buy.

  • 93% claimed! Don't even think about it. Just buy them!
