Introducing One Week Holiday Flight Deal Finder - Weekawaydeals.com

Hello, dear OzBargainers!

I'm excited to introduce you to WeekAwayDeals

I am a member of this beautiful community for ages, snapping up those epic travel deals you all post (shoutout to the Bali and Japan threads – they've saved my wallet more times than I can count). As a fellow deal-hunter who's always chasing flexible, affordable getaways, I built a simple tool to make it easier to find one-week return flights from anywhere in Australia to the world.

Quick rundown on what it does:

Pick any Aussie departure city (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, etc. – even regionals if they're covered).
Choose your dream city airport code (Bali, Tokyo, LA, Europe hubs, you name it).
Set your rough travel month/year, and it'll scan for the cheapest one-week return combos that fit.
No endless scrolling – it spits out date pairs with total fares, airlines, and links to book.

Example: Say you're in Sydney, eyeing a quick Bali escape next summer. Plug in "Sydney to Bali, flexible dates from Nov 2025 to Dec 2025" – boom, it might flag something like $450 return on Jetstar for 10-17 Dec (hypothetical, based on current trends; actual results vary with availability).
It is still in beta, so super basic UI-wise, but it pulls real-time-ish data from flight APIs. Aimed at us Aussies who want short breaks without the commitment of long-haul planning.

Hit me with honest feedback – I will try to respond to each and every comment if possible.

Disclosure: I am using Kiwi API search engine to fetch the deals so you may receive most cheap deals in economy airlines. Just a tip that if you want to filter deals for specific airlines, please add &airlines=QF,SQ etc at the end of the URL in the browser and enter button to see deals from specific airlines only. Also, you may not like Kiwi so once you see the dates combination, you may be able to search for those dates on any of your favourite flight search website or comparison website to search again and book from there or even directly from airline website. I may earn small commission if you book it through the links in the results section.

Always use reward points for flights.

    • Thanks. Agree.

Should have the option in the TO field of 'anywhere' or if nothing selected it just defaults to anywhere.

    • +1

thank you for the feedback. I am not sure if my API allows to put anywhere in the TO field however you can put two digit country code in the TO field to get deals from e.g. SYD to anywhere in India if you put IN in the search field and hit search.

e.g. SYD to IN, MEL to UK, ADL to US

Alternatively, you can search for any airport combination e.g. SYD to BOM and in the URL, please replace BOM with BOM,DEL,DPS,BKK,JFK etc. etc. and hit enter and it will display all flight deals from SYD to list of airports that you have defined in the URL separated by comma

If you only want to see deals from specific airlines, please add this in the URL and hit search and it will only show you deals from that particular airlinens

      &airlines=QF,BA,AA,SQ

It would be great to include specific dates that you strictly cannot travel before or after. Example use case: parents of school-aged children can't travel before school terms ends or after the next school term resumes.

I also second @BigTed's idea to have 'anywhere' as a TO option. Example use case: planning a holiday and you're open to various destinations, this would be a great research tool to help narrow down where you will go.

Extending on that idea, for the FROM and TO options it would be good to be able to list multiple airports. Example use case: Suppose you live halfway between Brisbane and Gold Coast airports and you are indifferent which one you depart from.

PS I like the "super basic UI".

      • Please confirm if you are telling me that you like my UI or you mean my UI is not simple and it needs simplication. Happy to take any feedback very positively and will work on it. Thanks

I like it as it is. It's easy to navigate and not too busy.
There could be more ways to view results like a calendar view (similar to google flights).

@tenpercent: Thanks for the feedback. I can put few more filters like airline selector etc. but as you correctly said-it will more search form more crowded and too complicated and too messy. Rather I tried to make it very simple at the minimum e.g. Choose SYD and BKK as from and to airport and thats it. No more search critertia needed if you just need flexible search from Syd to Bangkok. If you need specific dates, months, passengers, budget etc. of course you can choose them in the search form and get specific result based on your criteria. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Greatly appreciated. See my answers below

1.) It would be great to include specific dates that you strictly cannot travel before or after. Example use case: parents of school-aged children can't travel before school terms ends or after the next school term resumes. - there is optional search criteria where you can define the starting and ending month e.g. May 26 and June 26 or May 26 and June 26 and it will only show you the deals for those two months. I had originally dates selection but I changed it to months selection however happy to revert back to dates selection e.g. No deals should be shown prior to 19th November and after 2nd February etc.

2.) I also second @BigTed's idea to have 'anywhere' as a TO option. Example use case: planning a holiday and you're open to various destinations, this would be a great research tool to help narrow down where you will go. - see my answers above to @BigTed's question

3.) Extending on that idea, for the FROM and TO options it would be good to be able to list multiple airports. Example use case: Suppose you live halfway between Brisbane and Gold Coast airports and you are indifferent which one you depart from. - see my answers above to @BigTed's question. It is possible and you can separate multiple airports by comma in the URL and search

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately searching by months (e.g. Dec-25 to Jan-25) gives cheapest results that are halfway outside school holidays (which is expected, but not useful). Date restriction (rather than months) is definitely required (for my usage).

        • I agree. As the engine will try to search for cheapest deals, it will not display school holiday dates as they are not cheap. I take your suggestion and will implement in next version in next few days. Please do visit after few days and you will see it there. so you can choose starting date e.g. 16th November 25 and ending date 30th November 25 and then it will show the deals which falls within those dates. I hope this is how you want. Is that true?

          • +1

@yourflights: I think so. Say I want to search for deals starting as early as 16th Nov and returning latest 30th November, and I want to stay anywhere from 4 days to 7 days. Kind of like how it is now but just with start/end dates to bookend the search instead of start/end months. I.e. I don't necessarily want to leave exactly on the 16th and return exactly on the 30th. If that makes sense?

            • @tenpercent: It makes perfect sense. Any combination of 4 to 7 days holidays between 16th and 30th e.g. leaving on 18th and returning on 23rd or leaving on 25th and returning on 30th. I will make that change for sure and thanks for the great feedback.

            • +1

@tenpercent: Hi Mate, Just want to let you know that I have made this change now. Please test it when you get a chance and confirm if it works. e.g. If you choose 16th November and 30th November as two dates in the search form and choose 4 to 7 days as min and max nights, you should get all combination of results within that period.

      • Example URL for the India search as TO country and selected airlines e.g. Qantas and Singapore airlines

Example URL for the multiple airports

    anything to north korea

    • I couldnt find any flights to North Korea airports. Not sure if many flights go to N Korea. I will search again.

  • Why is this thing can't remember my AUD selection. And no year on the date, thus assume any date before today means next year?

    • Thanks for the feedback. I will see if I can set cookies to remember your AUD selection. Great feedback. I will also put the year behind the date. Thanks.

    • Hi, I just added the year on the date as per your feedback. I have USD as default however will change it to AUD to make it easier for people. May also think about IP service so it will default relevant currency for people accessing from different countries.
