Bought this last deal for $125. A tiny bit left in the bottle now - loved it!
I try to mix it up and get something new regularly but this will be a repeat for sure.

    • If you can get your hands on older bottlings of this try them - they are sublime sherry bombs

      • What do you mean by older?

        • The ones bottled around 2008-2012 if you look at the batch number sticker on the bottles, it will tell you what year it was bottled

          • @Gunnar: Plenty of reviews say the more recent batches (high 70s) are as good as the older batches (61-63).
Apparently lots of people didn't like the batches anywhere from late 60s to early 70s.
Dunno which batch I got but personally this one isn't for me, it's nice, but pretty sweet in my opinion, and to me the honey/raisin notes were a bit overpowering.
Having said that I'm not a big ran of unpeated whisky in general.

@DeToxin: I mean way older batches. I checked and the batches I’m referring to are low 20’s and mid/high 30s. I checked my last remaining bottle which is a batch 26

            • +1

@DeToxin: I find this is still good, but i remember doing a side by side the one i first got in around 2012 or so, to one from 2017ish and the earlier one was far better. I still buy it and like it, but do feel it used to be better.

              • +1

@witheredcouch: From memory the last one I tried was 8-9 years ago as well and it was meh, okay but not a patch on what they were when I first had them (2008-2012 but couldn’t tell you the batch numbers)

Side note if you love your sherry bombs I did side by side tasting of a three glendroach 15 YO bottlings from 2013, 2019 and 2022/23(?) maybe and man there was a massive drop in quality. Biggest was from 19-22/23

  • +1

is this enough to get me wasted though?

    • Probably lol, it's cash strength so it's like 1.5 bottle in term of alcohol content of a normal 40%abv

    • +3

A bottle would kill Bon Scott.

  • +5

One of my favourite single malts - divine.

    • +5

Hasn't this been the case for years?

      • Since 2017

  • I liked this one although I think cask strength in general is overrated.
If you like sherry bombs I highly recommend Edradour 10

    • +3

All whisky is cask strength plus water.

      • -1

Sure although this is a NAS whisky and to me tasted quite young. It's just not that good. There is better out there.
The best cask strengths are the exact same bottlings of the watered down version.

    • +1

Better when it was ~$85, that'd be a deal less 15%

The distillery was so weird, they said they had no staff. How can you export a nice dram but not have enough staff for a shopfront

      • +1

Yeah, agree Edradour is way overpriced at the moment. Anything under $100 is probably worth it though.
The thick texture of the Edradour 10 is so unique, I highly recommend it.

  • For someone who has a budget for $100 for a bottle this is a definitely a worth the 10.5% upgrade. Easily one of the best CS whisky at this price point.

    • -1

      whats the 10.5% upgrade?

      • "Price upgrade" lol

  • What a whisky!

  • +3

Never tried this one - big fan of their 12yo though, so may have to give this a try.

    • +1 to you sir. 12yo is up there as one of the best Whisky's I've tasted.

  • +1

How is it in terms of peat/smokeyness? I'm hoping the answer is "not very"

    • +2

      none at all.

      • Thanks!

    • Just opened the bottle I got. Not smoky at all

      • Thanks mate

  • I always stock up on Chivas 1 litre bottles for about $30 each overseas. I haven't bought locally in a while.

Is this that much better than Chivas?

    • +6

      Different universe to Chivas.

Thanks. Got one. Those who have NRMA - dont forget the Dan Murphy gift cards. 5% off makes it $104.97

    • How fast do NRMA gift cards come in?

      • Pretty instant - like less than a minute

        • +1

Thanks for the quick reply. In the process of doing the price match right now (its a little slow) so was thinking whether to get 4.5% with macquarie instantly or just go for NRMA.

If you like the sherry notes, I personally prefer the Bunnahabhain 12 https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_760659/bunnahabhain…

It's not cask strength, but I prefer it to the Aberlour and it comes out slightly cheaper though not on special atm (107 with the 15%).

It's an Islay, unpeated, and for me it has a deeper and more complex taste. Aberlour is a Speyside and is lighter and a bit more fruity/spicy

    • Yep this is a much better whisky. Sure it's not cask strength but don't buy whisky on specs only. Man I miss when this was $90 on special

  • They accepted the order and called that it was sold out, did I want a replacement. Waste of time.

  • +1

Maotai for under $400 a bottle after coupon/price match/gift card. This price is like pre-2020.

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought a bottle. Been waiting for the A'bunadh to go on special. Hopefully the order won't be cancelled!

  • Great price, coincidently I've had bought this for the exact same price exactly 4 years ago in 2021. If at that time it was a good price, in these times it must be a great price.
PS: I'm yet to taste this dram but I've heard good stories about it

  • Don’t like batch 81 that’s been sold my most of Dan’s store. Cheers

    • Bugger I hope not - I checked mine tonight and the 81 is the one I really didn’t rate (compared to the 63 and a 45.
