  • Can anyone comment on the flavour? Is it enjoyable or something you down it asap

    • +2

I like the vanilla plant protein, I have chocolate flavour to try next.

The plant protein powder definitely tastes thicker (more coarse) when mixed, not bad just different to the whey. I do tend to down it but not due to the flavour.

    • +4

Both vanilla and chocolate flavours are 10/10, doesn't have the metalic flavour some other protein have, it's sweet so it's enjoyable can easily sip it. Yet to try cookies and cream and will get it next but doubt I'd be disappointed.

      Mixes well with everything aswell.

    • +1

Ive started the vanilla plant protein recently. Mixes well too if you add about half the water quantity first and make a solution before adding more water. I just mix with my creatine too and the flavour is enjoyable. But like most proteins will make you poo and gassy haha

    • Vanilla and cookies and cream are both great. No complaints here

    • +1

Yall not just slamming it down? I’ve never really particularly savoured any protein other than far east alchemy protein

    • I like both, but I was suprised to find out I like the chocolate more. I usually don't go for chocolate, but this one tastes like the Yogo custard.

    • have been buying the 100 WPI chocolate for few years. One of the best tasting ones (second to maybe R1 protein) and it doesn't froth anywhere near the Aminoz protein powders

    • the whey vanilla is fine, best of the cheap options I'm tried.

    • They don't taste bad, but the flavours aren't strong if you want that. I still down it quickly because I don't like the texture of any protein power that I've tried including this one, but it's the least objectional powder I've tried + good value so it's my current purchase.

  • I've tried the chocolate. Way better then Musashi, and taste sweeter/more artificial then AminoZ. However at this price I'm going to continue with INC.

WPI/WPC blend, pass. Really messes w my fodmap. Unfortunately even aminoz supposedly 100% WPIs are not good enough :( Had to go back to VPAs products, but damn they are more $$$ [/rant]

INC 100 WPI Vanilla Flavour 2kg for $84 is this a decent price?

Edit: nvm, was $69 back in May

    • +2

Yes, the WPI is also a deal, used to be around $72 a while back but I think the price of protein has gone up every where so the new low is $84

    • +1

$80ish seems to be the new bottomline. If you arent in a rush you can wait to see if there are any cashback deals come up before pulling the trigger

I'm current using the mix berry plant protein with Vitasoy soy milk (8g sugar per serving). It's way too sweet for me. Is the vanilla or chocolate any lighter in sweetness? Any recommendations for plant protein without any added flavor?

    • +1

I can recommend the vanilla flavour, I have the chocolate ready to try next.

    • +2

Have you tried Vitasoy's protein plus range? It's unsweetened, I can't stand 'sweet' soy milks and can recommend this, use it for everything (including shakes).

      • +2

Oh! I totally forgot about the protein plus being lower on sugar content. The kids are intolerant to dairy milk, so we buy the Vitasoy Calciplus and they love it because it's sweeter. Thanks!

    • +1

I mix my proteins with the Coles pea protein. It was mentioned a lot on the Aus Vegan subreddit. Unflavoured and $10 for 500g.
Cuts the sweetness and makes my flavoured protein go further.

      • +1

That coles pea protein is the most vile shit I've ever tasted in my life and I'm pretty tolerant with these things.

        • Did you just have it with water? Or did you put a bunch of stuff together and it still tasted bad? I'm still new to this protein supplement routine since my PT told me I was losing muscle mass from increasing my weekly running load. Sometimes I'm tossing and turning whether to go pure one ingredient powder or things like this where there's a lot of other additives.

        • Really? I normally have it in a smoothie with half a banana and spinach, but even with water (2/3 flavoured protein, 1/3 Coles), I can’t really taste it.

  • +1

I use cookies & cream often, it tastes amazing…. I use it for Ninja Creami recipes and also mixed in with Greek yoghurt (10/10).

    • I have been using the INC Casein powder for my Creamis (only had it a week so still testing), will have to give the alternative flavours a go as well!

Has anyone tried BCS??? About same price but 31g protein?

    • +1

Bsc is 68% protein (low) so they just encourage bigger scoops. Look at protein content per 100g

    • I’ve tried both choc and vanilla (shred). Taste is good and decent macros

  • +4

    https://www.consumerreports.org/lead/protein-powders-and-sha…

I don't know if this applies to these products or any in Australia, but something to keep in mind that many of these protein products are chockers with lead

If you want a permanent erection though it might work

    • I’ve been thinking about this as well - I believe Bulk Nutrients tests & shares their lab results. Any other brands do the same?

    • If you read the report, the only ones that are a significant issue are the vegan ones (which any sane person would never touch).

  • The Vanilla INC Micellar Casein tasted incredibly artificial to me. Does anyone know if this is the same? Or maybe knows what ingredient might be causing this? I cant seem to pinpoint it but I had the same issue with FactionLabs Grape Bubblegum preworkout.
Musashi tastes fine to me in that regard, but I'm looking for something a bit nicer.

    • +1

The WPI and WPC/Dynamic blend tastes way better than the Casein one, completely different. Texture wise it's also a lot smoother than the Casein which I think has a grainy feel to it.

      • I might have to give it a try! Thanks!

  • +2

6% cashback using topcashback so it'll end up being about $60 each

  • For the plant protein, this is good for the price, especially if you are having ~1 shake/serve a day.

If you are consuming more, Bulk Nutrients Earth protein is a better product. Better flavours and much lower sodium.

  • Thanks OP
grabbed the choc mint + cookies & cream.

getting into using protein powder, how are people mixing theirs ?

I am calorie counting so just using water but the current powder im using is really frothy with a electric protein mixer.

    • I'm just using water and a shaker, mixes easily don't need an electric mixer

    • Fwiw I use the “Shakesphere” shakers (bit pricey I paid like $20/ea on amazon). They don’t have a mesh ball or anything but round top/bottom so protein doesn’t stick and mixes well. They clean very well in the dishwasher.
Amount of foaming depends a bit on the protein powder being used (shakers are less foam than electric mixes though by a long way).
To get rid of the foaming - I make my protein shake up first thing in the morning and then put it back in the fridge whilst I’m getting ready then grab it on my way out the door - gives time for any foam to settle down.

  • +1

As with the last deal, this value is essentially unbeatable for whey at the moment. Bulk Nutrients would net out to about $80 (plus $9 shipping) for 2kg of their WPC, assuming you buy in relative bulk. WPC is essentially the equivalent to this and nutritionally incredibly similar (any difference is essentially attributable to the scoop weight of 30g vs 36g).

So you are saving $10 or so per kg of protein, which is a big win as far as I am concerned!

  • +1

What's ozb's preferred source for unflavoured WPC or WPI these days? Was waiting for an Amino z deal but seems like they've stopped those.

    • I haven't tried this yet but it's next on my list when I'm due for more. It's pricey and I don't know if they do sales, but I'm at the point where I'm willing to pay some more for genuine Australian dairy whey
      https://www.professionalwhey.com.au/aus-whey-protein-concent…

      • Not bad price, I probably won't pay more for aus dairy though… Cheapest I've found is here

        • They were lab tested few years back and protein content was below then what they advertised on packaging.

          • @pyramid: Damn, get what you pay for I suppose lol

  • seems like Chocolate is only available in 1kg

  • +2

Reminder that non-dairy protein powders keep testing waaaaay too high for lead, and some other heavy metals

  • Got 2 2kg Musashi tub in the last Discount Chemist deal. Although not sure how this compares to that

  • +1

I'd just wait till Coles does their 50% off.
    the BSC is GOATED.

    Musashi, not so good.

    • +1

musashi really is horrid. would have to try BSC in future

    • How often do they go half price?

      • +1

often. I bought mine about 6 weeks ago

      • +1

        every 6 weeks or so.

    • How much is it at Coles when it's on sale? It looks like Chemist Warehouse has 1.8kg for for $62.49. It says 50% off but sometimes places seem to use a higher RRP.

  • Is this discounted price cheaper than buying from Costco? I would appreciate if anyome who compared the cost share their observation.
I thought the Costco price is way more competitive even after these specials?

    • yes this is cheaper than costco. you also gotta compare protein content per scoop/serving. this one has 26g of protein in a 35g scoop = 74% protein. some of the cheaper ones have lots of fillers and very low protein content. there's also a price gap between WPC and WPI

  • Costco had the American brands last time I checked and those came up in the lead study recently. They did have a really good offer during black Friday last year when 2+kg was around $80

    • -2

That would be because the lead study was conducted by an American organisation.

Let’s not forget the only ones with real issues were the vegan ones

  • +1

Rate the Vanilla, quite thick in consistency but tastes great and mixes well. Shame Amino Z stopped doing sales, but this has been a reliable alternative.

  • I'll go against the grain here, I think Musashi Shred and Burn choc is the best powder I've ever had.

  • Good to see these go on sale often. My go-to since Amino Z stopped doing their deals.

They all taste good, but I think I prefer Chocolate the best.

    • How's the mixability? Could you mix these with a spoon in milk like amino z??

  • Magnificent pricing. Best price per gram of protein for the Plant Protein in my records!

I have tried the Plant Protein - it took a few serves for me to get used to it, but I enjoy it now. The Dynamic Whey is great - standard kind of protein powder flavour.
