Damn, for that kind of money one can get a full cordless tool kit.

    • +31

It is a full cordless tool kit… haha.

  • +2

Tradie will steal it like with my previous awesome knife. Pass

    • +2

Under what circumstances did this happen?

    • I still use this 5 years after purchase.

    • +5

better quality get the 50 dollar gerber with lifetime warranty, great bit of kit for the price, leatherman is overpriced

    • @jv

      • good price…

        i think i paid $8 at Aldi.

    • Sorry, not even in the same league as a shitty gerber, let alone a Leatherman.

Fine in a bug out bag/thrown in the trunk of a car for emergencies, but really not much else.

      • +1

really? having owned both for the money the gerber far exceeds the leatherman, overpriced over hyped IMO. Other than the springs rusting out which I can live with & gerber did send me a new tool under warranty, I've had my current one coming on 10 years & used it harshly, an occasional clean & sharpen it's good to go.

        • Which Gerber have you been using? Maybe I should give them a second chance. MP600? I had a couple of old el cheapo gerber folding knives and a shitty multitool that really got quite corroded.

Tbh I'm not happy with the pricing on LM products. I got my first wave donkeys years ago, around a 120 bucks. Its insane that these are now at an RRP of over 250.

  • Good deal, but can anyone explain why the RRP is $530?! I'd want it to cook my eggs and toast at least.

    • +2

      profiteering

  • +5

Was just having a look at international prices… leatherman fkn aussies over cause they can

  • +3

I'm all for spending proper money on tools. But this is insane. Who buys this? EDC loons trying to flex on each other?

    • idiots obviously

    • +1

Same as people spending hundreds on sneakers and mechanical keyboards, thousands on audio gear, millions on cars, etc.

It's a niche product and there's likely to be a market for it (there's plenty of EDC loons out there), but there's plenty of "normal" Leatherman products out there.

  • Can someone outline the value proposition here? Wha does this do that a normal one does not?

  • +2

Spending this much I’d rather go down to the OG wave plus (I have 2) or just go all out on Arc.

Just a tip for anyone interested. If you ever find an old Leatherman model being sold for cheap somewhere, in any condition, buy it. Leatherman Australia has amazing lifetime warranty process, with no questions asked, and they will send you back the latest model
For example, I bought a used first issue Leatherman Wave for $80. I filled out a warranty form and sent it in, and they sent me back a brand new Wave+ within 2 days. You just pay for shipping (about $15)

    • Note that Leatherman's warranty in Australia is actually capped at 25 years. That probably seems effectively the same, but I'm coming up on 18 years now for some of my Leatherman multi-tools.

I have used the warranty service a couple of times now myself and they've been great. Highly recommended.

      • Shame it's capped at 25 years, my Leatherman is around 30 years old now… Still going strong, but heavy AF! Lol1!

    • Fuark that's genius. Great tip thanks!

  • +1

I regret not getting more of the $199 Charge+ G10 that time.

    • Same, got one of those but sold it not long ago for more than I paid.

  • +2

Leatherman tools last forever. I still have a "Super Tool" from the mid 90s kicking around the house that I use a couple times a month for odd jobs. If I lost it I'd buy a new one for sure

    • +2

Thanks for the link. I was even more interested in the comment in that thread about DLT Trading, who ship to Australia. I'll definitely be looking it that more.

      • I was in the market for one actually to replace my OG wave, and was waiting for the pricing.

As soon as I saw the pricing here, went and got myself a Wave+ for <$250. Markup of almost 50% is pretty shithouse

    • For those saying direct import from USA, I heard that customs will seize the parcel when arriving in Australia. Does anyone here hear the same?

      • On what grounds though?

We bought a gyuto and santoku online and it came through fine. So cant be because its a knife.

  • I've bought more Leatherman multi-tools over the years than I'll ever need, but this pricing is ridiculous.

I own both Wave and Charge tools. They're great, but I've never paid over $100 for them, including my Titanium Charge. Granted, that was back in 2007 (!), but 400% inflation seems absurd.

At this RRP, I think I'd pay the extra to grab the new Leatherman Arc, which I'd already written off as out of reach due to outlandish pricing at $599.

  • +1

Thank you for this! Was just complaining to Leatherman AU about their price gouging yesterday and was going to import two from US via reshipper. This is a much better deal.

Yes its not for everyone and its expensive but the Magnacut steel blade is quite unique, very few known brand magnacut knifes let alone multitools under $300 AUD.

  • +4

For discerning folk and fellow Leatherman enthusiasts the RFSA Shop has now added the new Leatherman ARC Talos variant aswell.

Use code OZB-COMMENT for an extra $25 off in your cart ;)

    • Hey mate does the Talos include bit kit & nylon sheath as well?

      • +1

Unfortunately not. For whatever reason the Talos variant doesn't include those extras. Only the standard Black / Silver does

  • Great deal. Sadly some states are now cracking down on multitools that include a knife, so be careful not to carry literally anywhere but a work site.

  • +2

I miss the days of getting waves/wingman from masters for $30

  • Leatherman prices in Australia are completely nuts.

You would be much better to buy Victorinox Swiss Tool off Amazon for ~$250 or buy directly from US via re-shipping service.

  • I have bought a number of Leathermans over the years but at this price, over to Gerber it is for me, much cheaper, albeit not the same quality.

  • Nevermind saw November for next delivery
