I've never used a 54V mower before, but it seems like a seriously powerful machine. We've really been struggling to cut wet grass with our current 36V model, and I'm thinking this would solve that problem.

If anyone here has a 54V mower, I'd love to hear about your experience – is the power worth the price

  • WHY ARE YOU YELLING ?

    • +2

It was copy and paste, the web was yelling -.-

  • This or a petrol mower for same price ?

    • +1

A petrol mower for that price will run rings around it…

If you want petrol, go for a Honda…
If you want electric, go for an EGO…

      • Honda don't make them anymore

        • Get an old one then… They last for 20+ years…

          • @jv: mine is 19 years old still starts first go, thinking of going battery

            • @Stealtho: That is what I did…

The EGO I have now is good, but there is still a big difference in how much better the Honda would cut. Especially if you like to cut low.

Not missing all the fumes though….

              • @jv: I have buffalo so don't cut it short and mow weekly, only 200m2 or so of lawn so thinking time to go battery mower.
Thinking this would do me dunno.

                • @Stealtho: I'm on an 800m2 corner block so nature strips on both sides and front and back lawn… So I went with a 52cm EGO… Can almost get through it on one battery charge if the lawn is dry… I cut around every 3 weeks in the summer… Back yard has buffalo, so EGO on the lowest is OK for that… On the honda, I would probably do it around 5 or 6 from the lowest.

                  • @jv: Mine is a 20 or so min job, my honda i am on 7 from lowest ATM.

                • +1

@Stealtho: Sharpening the blade makes a huge difference fyi

                  • @Headless: yeah had is serviced last year and they did that too

                • @Stealtho: Greenworks kit from total tools for $700.

              • +1

@jv: Have a 40v Makita mower. It's a beast as far as not getting bogged down, cuts almost as low as the Honda but same experience as you, the cut isn't quite as good as the Honda. I don't recall having missed blades of grass on the Honda but the Makita does. But yeah not missing the noise or fumes.

  • +3

Self propelled? I mean I dont want one where I spin the blade myself so thats good

    • +1

I saw one on the Flinstones…

    • +1

The actual unit self-propels, as in you don't need to push it

      • How does it know when to stop?

        • +1

Why would you want to stop?

        • +1

It self stops for one hour, every 2 metres

  • Damn, only 1 store in Melb and its on the other side of town OR $95 shipping

    • other side of town OR $95 shipping

      Decisions, decisions………….

Can Bunnings price beat this and include the bonus?

    • +2

Bonus is dewalt redemption so should be eligible

    • Bunnings site says they don't price beat order in/special orders which this is from TKD. Anyone had any luck getting a non stocked order price beat?

  • +1

The photo about the redemption is so misleading. This https://toolkitdepot.com.au/order-in-dewalt-pro-axial-blower… made me think that buying a blower will allow me to redeem the trimmer + pruner + battery.

    • thats 54v and 36v difference

      • yep, 18v

  • Anyone got this one and can recommend for 200m2 or so of buffalo cut weekly?
    https://sydneytools.com.au/product/dewalt-dcmw564p2xe-36v-18…

  • Never heard of FlexVolt batteries. That's the most interesting part of this to me. I assume there's a little switch that gets engaged on certain tools to turn it from a parallel connection across the cells to 3 series.

    • +1

No user switching, the battery receptacle on the 54v or 18v tool works it out, basically either series or parallel connection. 54v is a definite advantage on high draw tools like circ saw, mowers but not needed for typical drill driver etc

      • No user switching

Yeah, that's what I meant, but badly worded.

    • Flexvolt has been around for some time. It's in part as mentioned above by mauricem to power the higher drain tools but mainly to meet the demand of newer (reserved only for petrol) type of industrial tools. They have large jack hammers, wet quick cut saws etc

  • What are the other 54V mower alternatives out there?

I’m interested in getting into electric kits but feel Dewalt is an overkill for my needs.

    • Dewalt is normal, not really overkill. It is cheap for a self-propelled. Other 40V self propelled mower skins alone are $1600

  • Great find!!

I've been eyeing this off for a while. With the included whipper snipper and the pruners, it's a fantastic deal!!

Was watching Sydney tools, trade tools (dewalt promo atm), and total tools, for weeks for large sales on this, but hadn't even thought to check out TKD.

    Thanks!!

  • Who has been able to get a pricebeat at Bunnings

    • I tried 4 different bunnings, no luck, they are only able to price match, which is still good deal with $200 gift cards
