New Ebike Recommendations Based on Cost + offroad

Hi

Looking to invest in an ebike- 2000-3000 dollars- preferably a mid drive one and want to do some off road, easy trails (not difficult ones) single suspension

Was looking at this one
https://www.ordica.com.au/product/ordica-neo-mid-27-5-inch-c…

compared to the liv ones- https://www.saltercycles.com.au/products/tempt-e-3-25km-h-eu…

Any big difference to justify the higher cost?

Any other recommendations for under $2000?

Big decision- only had a normal bike before!

Thanks!

  • Have had this bike for quite a few years and love it: https://www.leoncycle.com.au/NCM-Moscow-Plus-Electric-Mounta…

Frequently ride off-road trails around Ku-ring-gai and Wylde parks. It can be modded with an off-road controller and throttle for steep gravel tracks.

    • thanks!- any recommendations of the ordica brand vs this one ncm ?

      • I've not heard of Ordica so would not have a frame of reference to compare. There's quite a few ebike focused shops around now. If you're near Surry Hills in Sydney, Move Bikes is a good place to go test some of them out. I believe you can even rent them for extended periods to decide what's best for you.

  • Unless I'm missing it, the Salter one doesn't list any specs. I've never seen a bike not have a full spec list so that's an immediate red flag plus the only review is someone saying they never got a receipt so this place just screams dodgy.

  • CRF250R

  • Try Cullen.com.au, I've had one for over 3 yrs, never a problem except for flat tyres but that's normal.
I bought mine from Pedl in Redfern online, but they no longer stock it, so go straight to Cullen.

The ordica brand looks crap! it looks like a cheap Kmart bike.
Liv is the better option of the two
You can also get Cube (German company) with Bosch mid drive motor from 99 bikes within your budget. My recommendation is to get a second hand focus (another German company) dual suspension, I had one of them before, the dual suspension is so much nicer than hardtail. but beware, these bikes are really heavy! what you really want is a dual suspension lightweight one but they are way beyond your budget.

    • i think the bosch motors are OK but the downside is everything is closed, proprietary and overpriced. anything goes wrong and bosch's response is "go see a dealer". want to add an accessory or connect an extra light? you need to buy a very expensive little cable with a proprietary connector to plug in the motor. want to enable an extra power port on the motor? "go see a dealer"

  • the listing doesn't even mention the motor brand or torque.

before deciding on what bike you want, you need to decide on what is the purpose of the bike and what range do you want. you will also need to buy a decent lock or two, maybe a GPS tracker and consider bike insurance if you consider it worthwhile.

have you looked through the online selection at 99bikes?

The ordica looks to be a pretty ordinary bike. Poor geometry for a start. It looks to be a budget chinese bike masquerading as a premium product.

The Liv is a giant female specific sub brand amd would be my pick. Guaranteed after sales service. The website doesnt look awesome, but i think id be happy to pick up in store, rather than mail order.

I just noticed one other website showed the Liv as a 2023 model. It may be harder to get in the right size (most important) at the good price.

    • Should also add, the 46t crabkset on the ordica is far too big for riding up hills.
