  • Interesting pricing. I guess you have other options from Brisbane

    Layover is over 23hrs!!!

      Plenty to do in sin

    • +3

Go and enjoy singapore. Can get a lot done in that time!

  • +1

From Brisbane direct with EVA is ~$1100 and 8hrs. First date I looked at with SIA has a total journey time of 20hrs including a seven and a half hour layover in Singapore. Some of them are much longer as well.

Depends how tight your budget is and how you value your time but I'd rather pay $1100 for the 8hr direct flight. Have flown EVA before and they were great in economy. 2x 23Kg bag allowance as well.

  • great price, already have a trip booked but if i didnt id jump on this, good excuse to explore singapore for a day too

Genuine question, what to see in Taiwan other than visiting for COMPUTEX ?

    • +8

Taipei for big city things, southern Taiwan for the food, eastern Taiwan for nature, central Taiwan for alisan and sun moon lake

    • +7

Take a dip at the Beitou geothermal valley hot springs, Longshan temple, hit the bicycle trail at Hualien, visit Xiaoliuqiu Island to see turtles and seaside activities like snorkeling. houtong cat village if you like 🐈

      • +2

Spend at least one night at Beitou and enjoy the hot springs in the hotel!

    • +1

Plenty of food, night market, big city stuff in Taipei. Go south to Tainan for han culture and dutch colony history. Go east to see nature, indigenous culture of Austronesians.
Heaps of 2000-3000+km mountains if hiking is your thing.

      • +5

Those are quite some distances to hike up

      • +2

In Tainan: An pin fort, Old street (my grandparents' old place, literally shop front). Old fishing village. Really support visiting here. If you are a runner in Tainan 1st March the Half Marathon is on, 400th anniversary of establishment of city. A great way to see all the sights.

    • +2

      Taipei 101
Jiufen (said to be inspired by Spirited Away, gold town)
Go-to a baseball game in Taipei (the crowd, energy, atmosphere)
Old museum (for artefacts better than anything in mainland)
I would also recommend Tainan for oldest city (if you are into history).
If you are into nature, eastern side has lots of ocean stuff
If you are into cycling. Lots of do.
If you are into food. Lots to eat.

YouTube has plenty of guides and vlogs.

I'm visiting Taiwan at the moment and have been staying in Taipei for about two weeks. So many things to do here and so many delicious foods you can try. Taiwan is a kinda combination of Japan and China for me. Taiwanese people are very polite and helpful. Really worth visiting! Taiwan number one!

      • +1

Taiwan is like a combination of Japan and 'the OG' China. The culture is IMO more Japanese influenced.

Desserts, fruits (pineapple, mango, custard apple and my favorite rose apple) are world class, so are the silicone chip making. People are polite as heck and society efficient (transport and convenience stores!). People are very open minded (first Asian country to legalize same sex marriages). Nature is to die for, compacted into a very small and convenient for travel island.

If you are into baseball, cycling, running, mountaineering, scuba, Asian culture in general…it's at the heart of Asia.

    • +3

Take a food walking tour in Taipei and learn about how Taiwan became completely self sufficient from the rest of the world. Their fruit is to die for, especially the pineapple!!!

    • Keelung Night Market is a foodie paradise

  • Can I stay in a SG for a few days ?

    • only if you don't get eaten

      • Haha….true!. I want to stay a few days in SG but this fare does not let me change my connecting flights.

        • It sounds old fashioned but a travel agent could probably sort you out with a delayed transfer .. they have access to a lot more booking options than us plebs on a front end web platform. Might cost you an extra $50 to end up with a second part to your holiday

          • @liam2040: Thanks. There aren't many travel agents in existence these days :)

    • If you like chewing gum and durian you can stay for longer!

  • +2

    Taiwan is the best

  • When is China invading?
