Other waiting periods apply (including 12 months on some dental services). Annual limits apply. If switching funds, limits used from your previous fund may be deducted. If you’ve reached your limits from a previous fund you may not be able to claim straight away.

its cheaper to buy 130k points at 0.13c PP but if you need the cover then its ok

    • +3

The only way to get $139pw is like if you have a family and want Gold Pro Max Plus Ultra protection with the lowest excess possible lol

      • +4

Yeah exactly, the headline from Medibank of 130k points is stupid bait for the naive - for many the points bonus would be far below that (and not that attractive).

      • It's way easier to achieve if you're "lucky" enough to have a huge lifetime health cover loading….
It's a nice fee added to encourage people (who realised health insurance was a waste of money) to join later in life when it otherwise might have become almost worthwhile…

    • But does this take the 6 weeks free out, and the minimum cost of hospital cover for tax purposes? Can work out at .1c pp or less this way.

      • Wait, as duna0104 said below, there might be no free 6 weeks?

    • 160 bucks a week on health insurance….. lol good luck with that its cheaper to just buy the points.

    • I mean last time this offer was on we timed it with both of our dental cleans + opticals + several physhios and massages ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

  • +2

I don't see 6 weeks free at the linked page or for promo code VELOCITY.

    • Its on the velocity app

      • +2

I checked the app. The offer displayed for me does not include 6 weeks free.

Clicking from the in-app offer takes me to the VELOCITY promo code page — again, no 6 weeks free.

        • I concur - my initial post did not mention the 6 weeks. The admins must have changed it

    Medicare is free

    • +8

      … much like stupidity.

      • -2

        How so?

        • +1

Not the replier but my guess is because this deal is for Medibank, not Medicare.

          • @thespensa: I've never seen the replier give anything but condescending responses in threads like these… although in this case, sadly, he's right.

    • Medicare is free but dental isn't on medicare

      • Look after your teeth and self insure

        • +1

Lemme just ask the ATO for my surcharge back so I can do that

      • Get your dental done as part of a holiday to SEA country.
A simple clean at a BUPA dentist was priced at over $300, which is crazy.

        • It's no gap dental with BUPA

    • Except for the levy and surcharge, which is easy to avoid by having little to no taxable income. :)

Velocity points way better than silly live better points

  • Important to note

"Be new to Medibank and not have held a Medibank or ahm health cover in the last 12 months, unless you’re a dependent coming off family cover"

I'm with NIB and swapping works out to Medibank is around $757.39 extra over the 6 weeks I would need to pay to get to the 3 month period and qualify.
But as my weekly cost for hospital and extras is $122 per week that only qualifies me for $70,000 points.
Velocity sale on at present and 70,000 points is worth $1,310.40 (normally $1,638.00) (0.1872)
So i would come out around $553.00 ahead

If i increase the extras level the cost is $130.96 per week and is $897.91 extra and gets me to $100,000 points
Velocity sale on at present and 100,000 points is worth $1,638.00 (normally $2,340.00 ) (0.1638)
So this way i would be $740.00 ahead.
So yep, for me i would come out in front.

I probably wont go ahead as pita to swap out and back and Mrs has day surgery next month and just know they will stuff it up.

  • 6 weeks free is not included with this offer. Title need to be updated.

    • -1

It stacked when I did it in June

      • This time around no 6 weeks free included in the offer. You can check the offer details.

        • Yikes, I assumed OP had actually read it somewhere, but you're right I cant see it.

Will holding the Medibank for 90+ days, as the deal states, avoid the Medicare levy for someone who does not have Private Health Insurance [PHI] ?

I am OK with not having PHI, but I like collecting Velocity points, so want to know what's the minimum amount of time to have this PHI, to 'avoid' the Medicare levy for this financial year (which is already in 3.5 months into it).

    • +1

You will get a letter at the end of financial year that says how many days you were covered by PHI. You basically claim a pro-rated amount if it's under 365 days.

      • Thanks @Gina Rinehart !
