TomTom Go Live 825 GPS $245 Harvey Norman

30

Just been shopping for a TomTom GO Live. RRP is $349, Good Guys said it was below their cost and refused to match it. 5" screen, lifetime maps, one year subscription to live traffic. All good.

The true bargain is here:

Basically same thing with 4.3" screen and some Top Gear customisations ($149), but good luck finding stock.

  • Good Guys would not match? I wouldn't accept that from Good guys - haven't they got a price matching policy??

    EDIT - Found it….. http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/darwin/content-PriceGuarantee

    • Good deal by the way. Which Good Guys should I direct all my negative energy towards?

    • Darwin? Not nation wide?

  • I think every single time ive tried to price match something at the good guys they say below cost and refuse. Never had a problem at officeworks though.

    • I have had the "below cost" excuse at Myers before, I did not know Good Guys pulled that stunt also. I have been lucky so far. The Good Guys Price Guarantee does not mention their cost price.

I believe Office Works changed their policy after ACCC investigated a few years back. I remember they just used to say they would beat any price and imply 5-10% off but then offer 1 cent off when you get to the store. I believe ACCC forced them to fix the "fine print".

  • The good guys used to sell these for $244…

  • Just for curiosity i looked up the http://dicksmith.com.au/product/D4572/tomtom-go-live-820-top…
and there is stock at Arndale and Ingle Farm in Queensland.

And it looks like lifetime maps also….. http://www.tomtompromotion.com/maps/AU

  • Ive had the top tomtom and now a navman, the quality control of tomtom isnt all that great but it varies model to model so i cant say for sure this one sucked as much as my one did. Either navman or tomtom are ok but cheaper ones on ebay from china make even this deal so so hot but anyway the garmin a friend bought is far better, easier to use and it turns on automatically when you start your car which is the way they all should work now IMO

  • It's $99 for a new Australian map for my current Tomtom XL 250, so I might as well look at purchasing a new device.

Is this the best Tomtom bargain to obtain the lifetime maps as well?

    • I was in the same position. Have a Go 720 which has some features the modern ones dont. Got the Via 260 $139. It has speed limit warning which the 220 doesn't. Sound quality isn't quite as good as the 720. Can't acces the contents on a computer as a drive like the 720. Top Gear 820 is $149 but doesn't have anything more I want and is an older model so 'lifetime' comes sooner. Dick Smith have a chart that shows most of the features in comparison (could use that on the TomTom site). Via series have voice address antry but don't seem to have a way to go to a town - need to know an address (unlike the 720). Could be user error though.

Go series have live traffic etc. which costs after the first year - maybe useful in Melb/Syd but not too me. Considered 6" Via 660 but blocks out a vit much winscreen and didn't want to pay another $60. I use the TomTom near line of site as a turn by turn 'navigator' and the cars 6" screen as overall map.

      • I had a look at the comparisons on the Tomtom site last night. The only different feature is the use of the Live Services, but $60+/year is a bit much for something that I use on the irregular road trip.
The main selling point for me are the lifetime map updates.

        • Same here. I reckon the speed warning is worth paying extra for. One speeding ticket can be the price of the TomTom. Another feature they say they have but haven't yet (but it's coming apparently) is adding your own POI's . You can get lists of cameras online and add them yourself.

  • I am surprised so many people think that a GPS for $245 is a bargain.

    • Melways/Sydways and a smartphone map app = much cheaper and can use out of the car :)
