No option for choosing US M14

    • +50

You've already got a good grip on the planet you don't need these .

      • +2

Fair, but a good grip and an M14? That’s balance.

Any decent deals you can recommend?

        • I’ve often wondered if there will be a time when larger sizes cost more, due to the extra material use. Like a size 14 vs a size 7.

Before anyone picks up their pitchforks, I’m not suggesting this is a good idea

          • @andresampras: The cost of the materials are negligible

          • @andresampras: The demand would be lower too offsetting additional supply costs.

Tangentially related… perhaps plane passenger should have to stand on scales and pay a surcharge if they are more than 14kg over median weight. Just because their carry on baggage is built in, doesn't make it okay to bring several bags worth. Maybe also a volume restriction like they do with the bags. Can't be wider than distance between the arm rests.

          • +1

@andresampras: I wonder if there is a time when larger people get paid more than smaller people. Use more energy. Require more fuel.

            • @pwnd: People don't get paid based on what they need, they get paid based on the job they're performing.

              • @andresampras: As a large man, I often get asked to perform tasks my smaller colleagues are physically unable to do.

                • @pwnd: Agreed but (hopefully) that's not the core of your role? I think this plays out in other ways as well, a person's uncommon/superior capabilities (innate or otherwise) being used more often - like the tech-savvy folks in the team are more likely to be doing tech support for teammates etc.

In the end I guess - are you doing those extra things voluntarily (to help the team out), or does the role require these skills - if the latter, then yes I agree that ideally you should be paid more

    • Easy, it will take Apple a sweet 9 more years to release M14 with the same macbook and ipad body that we are using today.

  • Do we think these are decent for couch to 5k?

    • +14

      Maybe couch to fridge

    • +6

If you are starting running and plan to run a 5k in future, will recommend that you visit a fitting shoe and get your gait checked. I went to Athletes foot and got to know that I moderately pronate. Tried Hoka, Ascics but finally settled for Brooks stability shoe. It was a good investment and I now make it a habit to go to a local store and buy a shoes after trying them on.

These are not good running shoes.

Get the Adidas Adizero SL2 for around $100-120 on sale if you want a decent Adidas shoe.

    • +1

They are alright. Once you are seriously into running and likely to continue so, then you can upgrade.

      Review: https://runrepeat.com/adidas-runfalcon-3

    • No.

I don't want to sound snobbish about running. I bought this shoe and they are poorly designed - they have a tight and ill-fitting upper sole that gives some compression to your upper foot, and a lot of the material is more rigid than a typical running shoe and the cushion is not very protective.

If you are young (<25yo) so your legs can take more of a beating / recover more quickly, and you're on a strict budget with no wiggle room, maybe you could use this if you're careful with how you build up your running base.

Everyone else, spend the money to buy a dedicated running shoe. Discounts do come up for dedicated running shoes around ~$80-$120 at times, for example the Saucony Triumph.

Won't recommend anything below $150 from Adidas. they are not good in my experience.

    • Was thinking similar about Nike. I don’t think I’ve ever worn a comfy (for me anyway) pair of Nikes that’s aren’t $200+

      • +1

80% of the cost went to sponsorship. I bought a few from ebay while they were on sale, but they're ended up in the bin.

      • RRP but not actual price I hope nobody is actually paying $200+ (unless they're professional runners getting the carbon fibre race shoes.)

    • +4

I disagree. I've bought two pairs of running shoes from Adidas which are both below $50 on sale. I'm only an occasional runner but they are comfortable and I've also used them to stand on my feet all day without issues too. I don't know how you came up with $150 as a cutoff for quality.

      • +2

I understand what you’re saying, and I totally respect that. However, everyone has different standards, your comfort level and other people’s expectations aren’t the same. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me.

What I meant was that Adidas’s entry level shoes aren’t worth buying because they simply don’t compare to the higher end models. The midpoint I mentioned, around $150, isn’t a cutoff but rather an indication of the quality level they represent.

Also, Adidas spends billions of dollars every year on sponsorships and guess where that money comes from? It’s built into the price of every product they sell. So, who’s paying for those sponsorships? The consumers who buy their products. I understand that other brands like Nike and Puma do the same, which is why I said the entry level models aren’t worth buying.

If you take 90% off the RRP, that’s probably close to the actual cost of the shoes. So, how good can a pair of shoes worth $5 or $10 really be?

That being said, I’m genuinely happy for you, if you’re content with what you have, that’s great.

        • …so what $40 shoes to buy that compare to $150 Adidas shoes?

          • @SoapyWooder: There's plenty in the past. Just look at past deals that have dropped, many have over 200 upvotes.

Yasim has a point in that everyone has different standards. If you're young and indestructible, there's many adidas shoes when they go on sale that will be great for you.

  • I returned my pair last time

For my wide feet seems only new balance 2E likes to fit.

    • Hoka and Brooks also do wide. And some of the Mizuno

  • +2

If you want performance consider the Adizero range.

  • +1

    Got one, thanks op!

    • +15

      What about the other foot?

      • +1

He maybe only has one foot?

      • +1

Nope, I only have one foot, always so confused why they send me a pair

  • +2

I prefer the BA falcon 4.0…

    • +1

AU VCT was deeply underrated though…

      • I was told by a dealer that AU stood for "Almost Unsellable". It really was an ugly beast, but I loved mine.

        • No one cared until Holden started their attack ad campaign.

    • Well somebody had to….

  • Cheers OP, look ok for some casual sneakers, and cant go wrong for $40.

  • Thanks OP grabbed one to replace my 6 year old Adidas beater/gym shoes! Really good price and doesn't really look too bad as well!

EDIT: My order got cancelled after 30mins with the cancellation reason of 'Out of stock or damaged', I purchased a M10. :(

    • +1

Same here, ordered size 11 and also got canceled for same reason. The thing is that size is still in stock and I can just place another order…

    • +1

Same here. Honestly, relieved. I was going to refund anyway.

I have too many pairs of shoes around the $30 to $40 mark brand new in boxes. Damn OzBargain.

  • Do they have lace ends to tie? The photos seem like they dont, can someone confirm?

    • +1

Yes. If you take a look at shoe websites, you will notice almost all tuck the ends in out of sight.

      • +1

Okie thanks, similar to others, my order was cancelled. (Which is good i guess in a way as i don’t quite like laces with ends)

  • -3

There's another deal active for shoes

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/929571

  • Disappointingly my order was cancelled and refunded twice. I can only assume due to OOS. Weird I was able to select my size and complete the order only to have it cancelled half an hour later on both occasions. Oh well

    • Also cancelled.
