This might be good value, if you want to go to the Cup and get drunk.

That's not what I am commenting on.

I hate, hate, hate when items are displayed as $xx + $yy (fee, etc). In this case, $60 + $6.70 booking fee.

    NO.

It is $66.70. If you can't purchase the item without the booking fee, then it should be displayed as a total price.

BTW, this is not specifically directed at OzBargain. I have a feeling this is mentioned somewhere within the ACCC's consumer guidelines.

It is deceptive and designed to trap.

Airlines were stopped from doing this some years ago, with the proliferation of $xxx fare, plus $yyy tax, plus $zzz security fee, plus $aaa passenger charge, plus $bbb fuel, plus $ccc terminal fee, plus plus plus forever.

As it was determined that it was impossible to actually purchase the ticket independent of any of these charges, airlines were forced to quote a single price. (Of course, airlines still attempt to trap with luggage fees, seat selection, meals, etc, but at least you must be able to actually purchase a ticket for the amount they offer now.)

Uber and service delivery companies do this as well. As you cannot get the delivery without the fee, it should all be shown as a single price.

Australia has some of the best and clearest consumer laws in the world; yet it seems as though some operators are always trying to get around these, and deceive the public in some manner. This 'fee' nonsense is the con du jour.

You're gonna love the little kids car rides at the local shop.

No coin slot anymore, all gone up to 3 dollars (!!!), and guess what, can you believe it, there's a card surcharge of 32 cents. So it's really 3.32 per ride, with no option for coins.

Funnily enough, I thought it was illegal to tack on a surcharge where there's no other option to pay…

I wonder how much of an overlap in the Venn diagram there is between Macca's app users and Melbourne cup attendees. Must be pretty decent.

  • 50% off animal abuse, nice!

And no, don't worry, that doesn't mean the animal abuse has been halved, just the price of it.

  • For once I can use my youthful looks to my advantage. Hellooooo $18 ticket
