  • Review from ozb member please? Especially for summer time. The air coming out is cool or hot just like normal $50 kmart fan?

    • +2

      It’s just a fan.
The heating is good as I have a toddler and child safe

      • They can be noisy at high speed!

        • Yeah definitely. I much prefer the split air con but it has its uses

    • +3

Just a fan, but not $50, like $20

    • +1

Owned one for years, stopped using it. Chews through power 1w in is 1w out.

      • Were you after something that could break the laws of thermodynamics?

    • Save your money and buy a regular fan. $300 for a fan?? Why?

  • +8

Cool is misleading, it's just a fan

    • +4

The problem is you don't understand marketing. Place outside on a cold winter's day, and it will produce cold air flow.

      • +1

If you use this in iceland, I am sure it will blow cold freezing air too

        • +1

Then this is strictly for penguins….

    • it depends on the context. Leagilly it can be argued that it does 'cool'.

  • +4

It is just a fan. The heating is the same as cheap heaters. You are buying this for the brand name and aesthetics.

    • I think this will really impress the new girl I am trying to impress

      • First you have to bring her home unless you intend to drive around with this in the car

        • +1

but my wife is at home…and her boyfriend sometimes comes over. It could be an awkward encounter.

    • It's not surprising people are willing to pay for improved aesthetics, which happen to be a major safety feature.

      • Yes, all those poor kids missing fingers from regular fans…

It's not surprising in that people are dumb and pay more for brands.

        • My kid keeps trying to put small things into the gaps of our cheapie fan heater. Dunno, maybe thats not an issue after all.

          • @Ughhh: Is this Dyson fan supposed to parent the kids as well? I mean… for the price, doesn't it?

            • @Maker1: Do you have kids?

I take it that you have didn't have any extra baby/toddler proofing stuff added to your home? Probably don't even have band aids because they wouldnt fall down in the first place if the parent was any good.

      • It is a good safety feature, but there are many fans out there using the same concept that are a lot cheaper nowadays.

  • +3

In case anyone else was hoping to have something to hook up to Home Assistant, this model doesn't have wifi (despite the price)

  • +14

misleading and predatory to older folks who buy and realise its a fan..

I know, my grandparents conned into buying one, grandpa spending hours trying to figure out where the cool option was, had to break it to him.

    • +5

Why all the down votes? Oz bargain is full of fanboys of Dyson, apple etc

      • "Fan and heater"

        • +2

          "Hot+Cool"

      • -3

Probably because the product is literally described as a "fan heater" in the name.

        Nothing to do with fanboy.

        • +1

Probably because the product is literally described as a "fan heater" in the name.

Yeah, let's pretend like the "fan heater" in the name is not prefixed literally with "Hot+Cool Jet Focus".

Yep reading the previous posts and ozb reviews, i will pass.

  • Bought one for $250 two years ago for working from home office. Heater is good, fan is okay only. Like 2in 1 to save the space.

  • I bought this roughly a few months ago,
My 2 cents is it is great !
Cool works good, heat is better. It is light and a great addition for us.
FYI I paid 250$ for it off eBay.
My only complaint is the remote keeps going missing.

    😅😂🤣

As a fan it's not good, noisy and weak, but as a personal heater it's quite good. The Jet Focus feature directs a narrow beam of warm air towards you rather than spreading out and heating the whole room, thereby saving electricity. Plus being with hot and cold means it can be used year round and not requiring you to put away the fan and bringing out the heater for winter.

As people have said, these are noisy at full speed, but I lived with one as my only bedroom heater for like 5 years and it was fine. I'd go one step further and say it was bonus white noise to help me sleep lol. It's easy to say you're just paying for the brand, but think about it logically. If you don't have a lot of space, you need something compact. I've tried about 4 different tower fans in the past and every one of them seemed just fall short of directing the air flow where I wanted it. So you're left with something like this. It's expensive but if it's looked after, it will last you years. Just be aware of the power consumption in heat mode.

    • +1

If it last for years I think it’s even worse, in 5 years you wasted enough money on electricity to afford supply and install an aircon which works like 1000x better

      • -2

Yeah but the split system doesn't have jet stream air amplifier flow so the Dyson wins. /s

        • +1

Not everyone has air conditioning or the option to install it. Crapping on something that works for some people in different situations is pretty lame.

          • -3

@georgegeorge31: The whole point here is that the Dyson is just a fan with a heating element and cannot actually "cool" any more than a $10 Kmart fan. Yet they're marketing it as a "Hot+Cool" product and some people defend them for no reason.

            Who's lame now?!

  • Dyson 2 year warranty seems good! but this product guess is a hit or miss?
