Or go the OzBargain way, DIY and save a lot more than $100.

    • +1

If you have the time and skills, go for it! For others, I hope a saving of $100 on their logbook service is helpful.

    • +3

Except when you sell a car, most people want/expect to see a proper stamp in the logbook.

      • -4

        Make your own stamp

        • How will that look to a buyer?

          • -1

            @MrZ: Professional

            • -6

@freeb1e4me: Driving around you can tell the people who service their own cars. They're usually the cars with one or more tail lights or headlights out.

              • +10

@MrZ: Usually people who service their own cars usually have an interest in cars and actually want to take care of them. I've had a reputable dealer charge me over $300 for changing spark plugs only to check them afterwards and they're clearly black and old and weren't changed so personally I don't trust them. Who knows if they even changed the fluids they claim to.

                • +3

                  @groook: 💯 this.

                • +5

@groook: I love my cars too much for these douche stealerships and the like to hand my car over to apprentices to "service" them. I've been to many workshops who claim to have changed items they never did, until I took destiny into my own hands. Buy a good Jap or Korean car that is easy to service, and just DIY using the best available parts at a frequency that is best for your car. Zero regrets.

                • @groook: So true. Will never go to a dealership to service my cars. Even if they are new.

                • @groook: Log book services IMHO are very ambitious . I change my oil at about 3/4 of the milage stated in the log book .

              • @MrZ: That’s some abnormal super power you got there!

              • @MrZ: You got no idea

    • do you service Teslas yet?

  • +18

Mycar is dodgy! They will rib you off. Personal experience with them

    • Sorry to hear that. I have used them and they seem fine. I have also tested the $100 saving and it's genuine.

I suspect like any chain business it's going to vary by location. I've been going to my local for a very long time and they've always done right by me.

I imagine labour could be found a little cheaper elsewhere. But I appreciate the honesty I've always got from them. And tbh their location is an absolute lifesaver for me, the shopping centre attachment they often have I'm sure doesnt help with costs but can be extremely convenient.

I also did the $100 off thing with this and it worked no problem. My logbook service ended up the same price as their standard service. Though don't ask me what the difference is other than the magic logbook stamp 🤣

    • +10

I hope you get your ribs back 😞 they just usually rip me off

    • +1

U r somehow correct. I end up some other serious issues whenever i pick the car up from them after service

    • +1

I've been using two different local mycars for various services and have never had an issue.

  • KTAS

  • How is this place? It is $140 cheaper than my local Hyundai service centre. Both have 12 months of roadside assistance, but MyCar doesn't give a free loan car. And I don't like my local Hyundai service centre, so I want to try somewhere else.

Back when they were Kmart Tyre and Auto they were notorious for ripping people off, but gave them the benefit of the doubt and I went through and got a quote for a basic service for my car, $600+ after the $100 off in this 'deal'.

Then checked via autoguru (which uses the same quote system) and the same Mycar location came in at under $300, with many others (including mobile services) as low as $230.

Shop around, better yet - do it yourself, if you don't know how, learn, it's actually not that hard, and this is coming from a white collar nerd type.

    • My quote test results, comparing apples with apples:

Using 'Book a service' from the mycar home page: $436.13.

Using the $100 off link provided: $268.80 (states it was $368.80).

Not sure why the 'was' price is significantly lower than the 'standard' booking price to begin with, but the final price for the exact same service was $268.80 instead of $436.13.

You have to factor in the damage this incompetent mob will do to your car.

Every time a “deal” is posted about MyCar there are always many negative comments. Stay away, you have been warned!

        • I posted in good faith and thought I was doing a good deed to save people some money. I didn't realise there was such ill-will and ill-feeling towards mycar. I'm sorry; this was my very first OzBargain post and I'm not sure I will bother again. It's discouraging to see negative comments and get downvotes when a deal is genuine and works.

          • +1

@MondoOz: Don't be disheartened. Some people have had bad experiences. Others like me have had good experiences with mycar. I think it depends on the location and who happens to be working on your car.

AFAIK you also get 12 months free roadside assist which makes it even better value so long as things go well.

Post the deal and some people will definitely appreciate it 😊

            • @Chocobros: Thanks! Yes, I'm sure YMMV.

Correct, mycar offer 12 months of free roadside assist with any logbook service.

FWIW, I took advantage of this deal and had my car serviced there today. At this point, my experience was great and no issues (so far at least).

              Thanks for your appreciation. 🙂

Deal is hit and miss, as someone who has had 40+ cars in a 10 year period I took a car here recently purely for the logbook stamp. And yes they did in fact change everything they charged for, I check oil level myself afterwards and it was all fine.

Why? Because one person had a negative experience?

  • +1

Thanks OP, booked one. My local has very good reviews, hoping it will go well.

    • Thank you and thanks for the upvote! My first deal I've posted (hence the 'L' plates). I thought I was doing a good deed but judging by the negativity here I'm now reluctant to bother in future. Clearly, there's many in the OzBargain community that don't appreciate this and are commenting negatively or downvoting based on a bad or not-so-good experience they've had personally.

The deal is genuine, works and was posted in good faith. I didn't realise there was ill-feeling towards mycar. I'm glad it's helped you, but I'm discouraged from bothering to do so again. I trust your service goes well. I suspect everyone's experience will depend on their particular local store… YMMV.

      • +1

Don't be discouraged MondoOz, any car servicing spots will have mixed reviews based on the mechanics who service them. You did the right thing and posted a good deal, don't be disheartened by the negs. Please keep them coming.

  • I've serviced with them yearly for the past 15 years with 3 different cars. My local Mycar has such a high turnover rate for their store managers. Just when you've built a good relationship with one you can trust not to rip you off, a new manager comes in and then it becomes a toss of a coin again.

Stay away from mycar ! Did logbook service via ART Super(10%) discount for my Mazda early this year. When I went back in 4 weeks after for pink slip, they asked me to replace shock absorbers, rear tyre, wiper for quoted over 1k (told me everything was fine during log book service). I said f.. off and went to local Mazda car service which I paid $42 for pink slip.

These guys try pull the 6-month service on your sticker trick beware

  • +7

mycar is the last place i would go for a service even with $100 off

  • +1

Check very carefully what is included versus what the logbook schedule states should be checked. My 30k Toyota service had wheel rotation required, but this was $80 extra. Also the usual price is already insane when compared to the $205 Toyota logbook servicing which includes a quick detail and wash.

  • +3

    Avoid mycar

Last time I compared they were more expensive that the dealership (they begrudgingly agreed to price match)

Plus they told there was an oil leak, I hadn’t noticed any oil loss or increased oil consumption so ignored them, 2 years and 30,000kms later, zero issues re oil leak

I’m never going back to them

  • +3

My car service price for my Mazda was more expensive than Mazda dealer.

  • +1

Just buy tyres from them… Nothing else

  • Wheres the best place to get a routine service for SUV (oil change, filter, basics)? Is Midas OK for $249 or is there better more honest offering Melbourne area?

  • +2

I have used 2 different Mycars that are local to me. My preferred one which I have used for years was fully booked, so they referred me to another Mycar in the next suburb.

Anyway to reduce being charged for windscreen wash, I topped mine up and spilt some in the engine bay. Whilst the car was being serviced, I got a call from a Manager claiming my car had a serious water leak and needed a new water pump!
