I discovered this place in Sydney recently while down from Brisbane. My god they need to expand north - bloody awesome food!!

If only you had discovered 5-15 years ago.
      It was 50000% better than.
its all franchised now, and it's mostly shithouse

I would say chicken is not bad, but their Tabouli and Garlic sauce are delicious. Or maybe suit my taste.

It's just charcoal chicken and garlic sauce - what has changed.

Also hilarious that comment elicits two downvotes just for saying I enjoy the food.

They've gone downhill as they expanded into franchises. Quality even at their original Granville store has gone south.

El Jannah 15+ years ago, was very, very good.

Now, it's mostly dry chicken and quite expensive for what they offer.

    • lol its bland and gross now, better chicken in smaller stores

      • Way better charcoal chicken at local spots

  • I miss when you could add extra tomato and onion and red pickles to the tawouk roll for free ;_;

Thanks, will let my cousins know

    Spend $50 on chicken?

    • Works out to be roughly half a chicken and chips there

I would if i had a party so adds up. But yes, the ozbargainer in me would just sign up for a new account and use the $5 deal. Missus hated our anniversary dinner to be that but oh well, we don't get to choose.

The Family Feast $72.00 (discounted to $57.60)
The ultimate feast, enjoy two EJ legendary whole charcoal chickens, regular creamy hommous, authentic fattoush, large hot chips, large famous garlic sauce, large pickles and fresh Lebanese bread.

Even at $57.60 it's pricey… My local Gourmet chicken shop has 2x whole Portuguese Chickens for $22. Buy a garlic dip ($4.50), some lebanese bread ($2) and frozen thick cut chips from Aldi ($4) and you're at $32.50. Throw the chips in the airfryer and Bob's your uncle.

Keeping in mind that you'll likely have leftover Garlic dip, bread and frozen chips for next round.

i would say that your gourmet chicken shop has bigger chickens aswell? the el jannah chickens are small. honestly their value/price proposition is poor - they are too expensive for what they offer - its not a premium product at all

But there is no comparison for chips 'freshly' fried in oil and sprinkled with chicken salt. Also the pickles are the game changer (if you like them) for Lebanese style of roast chicken (Portuguese don't come with pickle).

2x whole Portuguese Chickens for $22
if they are charcoal, then that is really cheap.

    • +2

Where is this $22 for 2 chicken shop?

It's the beginning of the end for them…

Not really, they’re valued nearly $1bn and about to sell. The owners are minting it.

    • Many said the same about Guzman before they went public

  • Had a bad experience with these guys, never going back again

  • They were the best thing ever when i went to sydney but haven't been since pre-covid. Sad to hear it's gone downhill

Been great. Now every time smaller portions and often price hike. Gave up on them

  • side note - anyone getting the emails from El Jannah about the scavenger hunt? Has anyone found the word/emoji in any of them?

I have to say the best way to save money is to move to the middle of nowhere. I haven’t been able to get most of the franchised deals nowadays, and waiting for Amazon to cut my area off too.

    • Hah. I had this experience too. You are so right

  • I have their starter pack everyday for $5 on the new customer deal
