🆚 $9 to get back to Mount Druitt station, having to exit through sniffer dogs and eshays bumming ciggies.

Not 💩ing on this great service, but jeez we need these services in less affluent areas…

    • Probably the case because those people pay higher taxes (unless they are absurdly rich, in which case they pay LESS tax on average).

      • I should think it's to ease traffic in the inner city too.

      • Maybe, but the point of taxes isn't to provide services proportionate to the taxes paid.

Even if they were, people in poorer areas often end up paying more for transport than those in affluent areas. If these services were provided, I'm sure they'd be happy to pay a portion of that saved money towards better public transport.

Just look at the success of 50c fares in Queensland. It's hard because this service appears to be provided by a local council and not the state.

QLD Transports 50c fares actually gets me where I need to go though? I don't know much about the suburbs of Sydney but I'm not gonna go to Glebe just cause it's free.

  • Except - QLD covers far more routes than just a few km of routes.

And worse, they're only covered on 2 days of the week. And only e.g. 4 times on those 2 days.

Extremely niche. Possibly useful to those really needing it for their own situation, but not generally useful to most. i.e. unless you desperately needed them it's not going to be suited to most wanting to take transport for their own plans. What next? Bargains for the after hours pickup services to/from clubs when you've been drinking?

  • I'll take the 50c Qld fares any day, it's across all modes of transport & far greater distances & full timetable
