I'm heading over to china for the first time for work, however I am unsure of the best vpn to use over there so I can access certain social sites needed for work.
Would love some recommendations and any tips you may have :)
I've done some research on which VPNs may work but id love to hear some feedback! (express vpn + surf shark as a backup was what ive seen so far)

I second LetsVPN (went to China recently).
The other way is to buy a Data esim e.g. from trip.com which will allow you access.

I'm very doubtful that express and surfshark work (despite the ads/marketing)
The trip esim plans are decently priced. I might try it for a trip in March next year.
A lot of them don't work anymore and you'll only find that out when you get there. Why not take a break from social media instead.
Unfortnately these are needed for work, otherwise I'd be enjoying a nice holiday away~ :)

I went to China earlier this year. When I got there, none of the 100% cashback VPNs I signed up for worked if I try connecting directly to say, AU servers. I found a workaround, if you connect to the Hong Kong servers, Google/Social sites should work.
Not being able to access FB/IG is a gift.
I suggest to buy airalo esim, works for social media and you get data on the go as well (for all those cashless payments)
Roaming would be a good option here with an australian sim card or work vpn ?
Felix/Amaysim have well-priced packages - maybe you could get your employer to refund the roaming fees?
12VPX works perfectly for us, pretty expensive compared to other options though.
Like the other commenters have said, certain SIMs are available for foreigners inside China which lets you access most places on the other side of the wall

No problems at all.
I could access all of my Google apps and had no issues using WeChat to pay for almost everything.

Exactly this. So OP is there for work, but cant do their work due to 'China things'. Sounds like its works problem to figure out. 🤷♂️
