Free 12-Month Trial of FoundersCard – Travel, Hotel & Business Perks/Status (Ongoing US$395/Year, ~A$600) @ FoundersCard

81

Found this offer for a free 12-month FoundersCard trial (normally USD $395/year, about AUD $600).

Perks/status include:

  • Travel: Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, United, Singapore Airlines, etc.
  • Hotels: Hilton, Waldorf Astoria, IHG, Rosewood, etc.
  • Cars: Avis, Hertz, Sixt, BMW, Audi, etc.
  • Business: FedEx discounts, Stripe credits, coworking passes.
  • Lifestyle: Adidas, Bang & Olufsen, Mr Porter, etc.

Though I'm not sure how many of these benefits are applicable in Australia or how hard they are to access as there's not much info on the sign-up page. I've seen people mention some of the better benefits require an upgrade to the 'Elite' tier.

Trial renews at USD $395/yr if not cancelled. I haven’t signed up or tried it myself, so not sure how good the perks are or how easy cancellation is – posting in case anyone wants to check it out or share their experience.

WHY CAN'T I SEE THE FULL LIST OF BENEFITS BEFORE JOINING?
The full list of our VIP member benefits is available after you've submitted your invitation request or joined FoundersCard. This is to maintain the exclusivity our partners provide.

You can just put dummy details and you'll get approved to see all the benefits instantly.

Thanks for pulling those t&cs out. The fact that you cannot see the full list of benefits before joining seems very suspicious…

  • still need to be manually approved so probably won't work hehe

    • You can just put dummy details and you'll get approved to see all the benefits instantly.

      • When I started signing up to the free offer it still required payment details to be entered. I stopped right there.

Those comments are gold, thanks for posting. It's not worth doing, even for free.

Thanks for reviewing the review to save me reading.

  • looks to be an affliate link? i can access the 12 month trial from the main page without the referral code.

    • The offer came through after booking with Expedia. Not sure how I can post it without using that link, as going to the site directly doesn't give you the free 12-month offer. I don't have a membership with them.

These guys give a decent overview of what is included in the trial benefit (not very much)

    • Was just about to add this here too (was reading that link too, found it via reddit)

      • Even the full card, unless you really want Hilton Gold and are about to fly Virgin Atlantic I can’t see why anyone is paying for it

    Not beneficial for Australian market.
Most of the offers are for US markets, even airline offers are for flights originating from US.

    They don't let you cancel??

I got "approved" for the trial version. Garbage benefits that are barely applicable to the AU market. Plus, they instantly try and upsell the Elite membership for a limited time offer of $195 instead of $595 . The limited time offer was meant to run out at the end of the week of me receiving the email. It's still there six months on. Looks pretty scammy to me.

  • Join the trial and wait long enough for them to drop the annual fee to $99. It's not worth it at $375.

The only real benefit is the Marriott 15 night to plat challenge which is 1 night less than their public offer of 16 (but much worse than some other offers out there).
There's some other hotel statuses like IHG / Hilton Gold which is decent but benefits are lacking.

  • I wouldn't say its a scam but it's certainly not for everyone, and a lot of the benefits are US-centric and/or benefit US work travellers (e.g. flights, hire cars, hotels). I would say not many ppl are paying full price for the card. I'm not sure Elite offers much more over the standard - the only thing that would tempt me is Hilton Diamond and they don't have that on Elite either.

I have had it since 2014 (!!) - I travel back and forth to the USA several times a year for work. I'd easily make the fee back several times over just from discounted US hotel rates. Often the FC Qantas airfare rates are better than than qantas business rewards rate I get.

I would have saved close to 10k for my company on the Hubspot benefit alone, among others.

Gold hilton is certainly handy as is the status on other brands but you may get this from other credit cards.

If you have a Plat Amex I'd say some of the benefits may be marginal or overlapping. I have a Plat Amex now for work so I may end up cancelling my FC but I have had a good run with it. Happy to answer any other questions.

    • Great insight. The Reddit replies are stacked with people who want to use FC for the wrong purpose. I see FC as a benefit for those who travel (as opposed to wanting Shopify discounts??!!) and am wonder what your thoughts are on:

Hotel status - anything equivalent to Accor platinum?
Airline status - anything for one world?
Rental car status - equivalent to Hertz president circle?

      Many thanks!
