  • I havent checked online but 3hrs ago saw this very same bundle at jbhf aydney for around $950+ ("was $1000+) yeah right!

  • Sounds like a good deal. But some people say - wait and japanese gear will drop even more than that within a few weeks. I am not a fortune teller, neither a canonian so it is all up to you what you gonna do.

  • My friend just bought one in Hong Kong with similar price . But this give you eGlobal 'warranty ' . So I think it is a very good deal.

  • Can anyone give advice on the EOS M?

    • Its a good small camera, image quality is great, as good as the canon crop sensored DSLRs (same sensor), except the eos m kit lenses are far superior.
The auto focus is super slow though so if you're wanting to shoot moving objects, forget it, you can get other cameras for almost the same price that'll do it better.
But for people who shoot landscape or want a beefed up point and shoot then this is awesome.
The camera looks great, touch screen works like a charm, it has a minimalist design (canon said they designed it targeting the female market) and its very user friendly.

Apart from the auto focus, I like it and use it when I'm out on holiday trips where I don't need fast AF.

    • If you just want one kit, no plans to expand any time soon, then what edyahs says is correct, a nice camera but with very slow auto focus.

If you want a more polished option, care about auto focus, more options to expand, etc. Should probably look at the offerings from Sony, Fuji and Olympus.

      • As I said I am not a Canon person but I think you do not have to look outside Canon even if this camera is not good for you.
You can buy a 600D or 60D or 650D for a really good price (see ozbargain).
The beauty of cameras like this one (or Pentax K-01) is that being smaller (or handier if you like) they still can take normal lenses (EOS M should have an adaptor attached) and they have APS-C sensor which will give you the same performance as "normal" full sized DSLRs.

If it is a HK price (as casmxl mentioned above) I would definitely consider purchasing one providing you're with Canon already.

        • I don't believe an adaptor for DSLR Canon lenses is included with this. You can get high quality adaptors for all the other cameras, and for Sony NEX, you can get the exciting new Metabones Speedbooster which will let your FF Canon lenses perform much better with the APS-C sensor than any other adaptor.

But, as you allude to, one of the main beauty of these systems versus DSLRS is their smaller size and weight, which is meaningless if you start throwing on heavy adaptors and lenses :) Possibly worse than meaningless as it will be out of balance.

And, if you're not a Canon person, why would you discourage someone from looking outside of Canon? Most commentators and reviews consider The Olympus OM-D, Sony NEX-7 and Fuji X1 Pro as the top contendors in this market segment. If talking DSLR, then Nikon, Pentax and Sony all have good offerings too. Not saying Canon make bad products, but there's always good reason to look at other brands when making a choice about what is right for you.

Anyway, to the original question from Kaichongjee, I think this is a pretty good video review of the EOS-M: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PJoV9UQ8FE

        • I do not want to wage a war but I looked carefully at both Canon and Nikon some time ago, and finally decided to stay with Pentax (as I already had a few lenses and managed to get another good one half price).
From my analysis I could see that Canon DSLR's as allrounders are a better choice for people who do not have unlimited amount of cash.
I've got no intention to say anything bad about Nikon (or Sony or Olympus you name it) but Canon at the moment looks like a better choice for prosumers. imho.

In regards to small camera with big lenses, I can say that you do not have to use big lenses all the time.
I use a pancake one with my Pentax k-01 quite often. Anyway if I attach my 50-135 2.8 to Pentax K-x it won't be balanced too well either.

        • I'm digressing a little but I've owned Nikon D70, Olympus E410, Panasonic L1, Pentax K10D, Pentax K-7, Canon 7D and now Canon 5DII (in that order). For cropped sensor both Pentax's are still the best bang for your buck. Hoping for Pentax full frame but that probably wont happen until I'm old and grey. One day I'll go back to Pentax…

        • You probably have already read this, but: http://photorumors.com/2012/12/21/pentax-full-frame-camera-i…

"I believe it's almost certain that they will introduce some kind of a full frame solution in 2013-2014"

But yeah, really digressing from a question if a mirrorless camera is ok to a different comapny's FF DSLR intentions :)

        • I still keep hopes that Pentax will do a K-5 like camera with a articulated LCD screen and with (at least) Pentax K-01 video capabilities.
For me it will be a camera I really want to have.

  • WOAH that is cheap, I bought it for over $800 for my girlfriend for Christmas..
Pretty sure the eos m upgrade will be announced soon though.

    • I reckon it is the price a friend of mine got it for.
Upgrades and price drops are inevitable.
The question is how long you want to wait.
I'm pretty much sure in two years time this camera (probably second hand one) will be less than $200.
But you should understand that you gonna miss two years of your and your friends and relatives life (in terms of taking photos).
