After redeeming an Apple Gift Card to my Apple Account Balance, I tried to pay in-store at an Apple Store but the payment didn’t go through.
The staff’s handheld device showed the message:
“Ask customer to make online purchase.” (or something similar)
Details:
• Amount: $1900 ~ $2000.
• Using Apple ID with Region: Australia
• Payment method: Apple Account Balance (via Apple Pay)

It doesn’t allow me to choose pickup.
I don’t want to make an online purchase because it doesn’t allow me to pick up in store — only delivery — and I really want to get the phone sooner.
Which phone are you attempting to purchase? Pick up shows up fine for me on the Apple Store app for the new iPhone 17?

In before the fruit fans say username is appropriate.
The same thing happened to my friend. He chatted with Apple Consultant (online) and was told delivery was the only option. He placed the order; and cancelled the order. 4 days later, Apple website allowed him to place a new order (paid with Apple Balance) with Instore Collect.
I wonder if mine is fixed now too - when was this?

…and you just walked out of the store? Apple have one of the best customer service. You should have insisted you want to pay with Apple Balance and you need the phone today. As it's available in store, ask them to find a resolution or provide an explanation.
