  • What age is your first kid and the new baby - if you don't mind me asking? Will be in the same boat soon I think so am thinking ahead on when I might need to upgrade!

    • First kid is almost 2.5 years old.
I liked this model as it actually comes with a harness vs just using a booster with the car seatbelt.
This model is for 6 months to 8 years, so will be sorted for at least another 4 years (and a bit :) ) until baby (due in couple of month) grows out of the graphene.

      • So I've got a baby on the way and a 1.5 year old. The 1.5 old still has plenty of usage to go with the Graphene but if this model covers up to 8, this might be a good second seat to buy when bub does need the Graphene!

        • Congrats!
And yes - that was my thinking exactly.
We ordered the max guard pro early so the 2.5 yr old can start using it when it arrives. That way there is one less change when baby arrives.

Re the car seat: The Guard Pro has some extra safety feature and different button to release the belt.
Other than that, didn’t spot much difference between the models.

          • @Bliek: Cheers for sharing this and a huge congrats to you too!! 👏

You can't rear face the bigger one in this, and it's significantly safer for them to rear face for as long as possible, up to age 4. My kid was 3.5yrs old before she outgrew rear facing in her Graphene, we then upgraded to forward facing in maxiguard pro so her little sister could have the Graphene.

Fwiw, best practice is to rear face as long as possible. Your 1.5yo is likely still rear facing. You would be better off with a 0-8 ERF seat or another 0-4 ERF seat.

We have Graphenes. When second came along (2.5year gap) we bought a Mother's Choice Ascend (same as Infinity), which is the most compact of the three 0-8yo ERF seat options.

Securesafe Guard / Infasecure Titanium Pro Black (ONLY the Black colour, which is a rebrand of the Guard. Not the Charcoal colour, which is actually a different bigger seat) is the other relatively more compact 0-8 ERF seat.

If space is no concern, then Infasecure Achieve / Grandeur / Titanium Pro (Charcoal) / etc is the other 0-8 ERF seat.

If 1.5yo is forward facing already, then yeah, 6mth-8yo seat like Maxi Guard Pro or Mother's Choice Focus/Pulse.

          • @caprimulgus: Super helpful comment, thanks caprimulgus and Jamesoooo. Agree on keeping them rear facing as long as possible, didn't notice this one is only front facing until the comment above.

    Infasecure is considered the best

    • Which model and by who? There's different safety levels across all brands.

    • The best isn't always what fits the best.

Some people need narrower seats to fit their cars 2 or 3 across.

  • Don't recall me daddy oooo

  • Can 2 people sit at the back with this installed?
Or would maxi cozi pria be better

  • Is the pro better than the standard in a meaningful way? Standard is 390.

From memory, Pro has extra side impact protection. The non-Pro is better at puzzling three-across, because it doesnt have the side bits.

    • Fair bit safer- better side impact protection, and harnessed for longer than the non-pro

      • AFAIK, both Pro and non-Pro are harnessed for the same amount of time (to 8yo). They are both type G harnessed seats.

    • I bought two Pros on Sunday. Having use both the standard and Pro versions of both Britax’s 0-4yrs seat and this 0.5-8yrs seat, the Pros are significantly better at loosening the belt with a much smoother action of both the shoulder straps through the seat and the cam buckle that doesn’t get stuck or binds. That feature alone is worth it over ~ 4 years of life of the seat.

Bought this 6 years ago when my daughter was tall enough to transition to it. I remember I paid $300 for it from Baby Kingdom. It is a good seat, and would buy again, if I didn't already have 3 of them, and only 2 kids.

  • Sorry just to confirm are either of these convertible to have them rear facing? Doesn't seem like it from what I can see

    • +2

      No, they are FF only.

  • My pria lx is good

    I have a Pro and a Pro+

Definitely worth getting the Pro over the regular for SICT

Pro+ isn't really worth the extra - but I got that on sale last year for 479 anyway :)

Great seat - no complaints from 2.5 year old. And should last her another 5 years

  • Thanks for comments. I added a few bits back in the OP

Consider Maxi Cosi Tuva as well for front facing 6m-8y seats.

    • This. We had convertible 0-4yo Mother's Choice APs that the kids outgrew. I originally bought the Maxi Guard because of its high CREP scores but after a bit more research, switched them for Tuvas. Can't go too wrong with either safety wise, and they seem very similar widths.

So it came down to features. The proper sized cup holders for the Tuva were very appealing for us as our kids always seem to be carrying something into the car that ends up on the floor. The seat belt locking thing at the back is very helpful.

On the other hand, while the magnetic harness holders also were a selling point but have turned out to be a bit of a disappointment as they're too weak - I'd prefer physical loops. And the Britax Maxi Guard series have armrests, which do look more comfy but just weren't as appealing to us.

One of the group mods of this child seat obsessed Facebook group also said the Tuva is deeper, so can accomodate kids for longer.

The MGP has armrests - though

I tried this last week to take advantage of BBs 40% off and this Baby Kingdom price. I submitted the price beat request last Tuesday and, surprise, surprise, BB only approved it yesterday - conveniently after their 40% off deal had finished. I’m certain they delayed responding so that I couldn’t use both promotions. I’m pretty sure both would have worked.
