have one back from 3-4 years ago, still going strong (think it was G20 or a similar model), i like the lock in button where you don't have to hold the bottom to keep it running.

    • how long does it last on the highest setting?

      • -3

        That’s what she said.

        New 10-15 mins
        Old 5 mins

Old dude needs some Tonkat Ali

yup this, 5-10mins currently. we have laminate flooring(fake timber) so we never go full power mode. imo if you have carpet, just get a plug in vaccum. ( those runs for 10 years and still going strong)

we also have a dyson v8, overprice and overrated for what it is.

  • Got the v8 for $300 last month. Should have waited?

    • If you wait long enough U83 will be the same price!

    • Bought the v8 for $400 last year

The Dreame U20 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner weighs approximately 3.3 kg

  • This or the r10 pure? I noticed that this is battery removable as well which is more convenient.

    • With this, you can just dock and it will charge, but with r10, you have to plug in manually.

    • +1

The R10 pure also has removable battery. But battery price if you can even find them are the same as new vacuum cleaners.

  • Got our Dreame V9 mid 2019, its second battery (from Ali) is now dying. Probably a good time to update methinks!

    • I have the V9 too. Battery is going ok for me but it is shorter than what it was

    • Ya, the other parts would have worn out as well.

Why don't they give a flexible pipe?

Anyone knows of a third party flexible pipe?

    • To save money.

    • That's not what she said!

    • +1

Love my older Dreame with the flexible pipe, best attachment ever and it's surprising it's not more common

This is identical to one my partner had a few years ago. It carked it hard. From memory it was the battery.

This model appears to be sold under other brand names, eg. Fanttik Storm so might be worth looking around. Not sure how much components such as battery differ between brands though and if the one that carked it used cheaper components in some way, or if it's all just the same model with a different skin.

If you aren't starved of storage space, I'd recommend something like a Miele over any stick vacuum I've ever tried.

  • How does this compare to the Dreame T20?

  • Any feedback on this? My partner and I are looking for a replacement cordless stick vacuum cleaner and were going to go for a Dyson, but I don't really want to pay $800+ if it can be avoided, especially considering none of them (regardless of the brand) are built to last. Initially, we had a Dyson V6 Animal which worked OK but then the battery died shortly after the warranty period, replaced it with a Dreame V9 (or maybe it was a V10) which had rollers that stopped spinning (seemed to be an issue between the attachment contacts), and then finally, replaced it with a Dreame T20 which intermittently displays a mechanical error and no longer works on the turbo setting. Is the features and performance of the Dyson worth 4x the price of the Dreame U20?

I had a Dyson V6 (batteries failed) followed by a Xiaomi G10 (Motorhead burned out), followed by this and then eventually a Dyson Gen5detect.

The Xiaomi G10 (roughly on par with the Dreame T20 I believe) was great, way better than the V6 and was kind of hoping this would be in the same ballpark. It’s not. Power is ok for hard surfaces but mediocre on carpet and the build quality feels incredibly cheap - useless battery indicator etc.

Ended up stumping up for the Dyson in resignation - way more expensive but it actually does the job. Wish I hadn’t bought the U20 (or that the better Dreame/Xiaomi models hadn’t crept up in price).

      • Thanks for sharing your experiences. Do you know if there is much difference between the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute and the Gen5Detect? I was looking at the former.

        • I did a bit of research and I believe the consensus was there’s minimal real world difference. The Gen5 is technically newer (now superseded itself) but I probably wouldn’t pay more than $100 more for it (maybe not even that). It’s a bit gimmicky but I do like the particle readout for carpet - shows how much fine dust is still in there even after multiple passes, largely irrelevant for hard floors though.

If you can wait a little, you can pretty much guarantee one or the other will be on Black Friday sales.

So your Dyson battery died and instead of replacing the battery you bought a new vacuum?

"4x the price of the Dreame"

It's not 4x the price, it's more like 2x. You can get a Dyson V8 Absolute from Dyson ebay for around $450. Good Guys and others have similar prices for the V8 origin, an upgrade over your old V6.

I don't rate Dyson that much, they're overrated. I had the same battery issue on an old V6 handheld, but the battery can be replaced. I didn't bother replacing mine, I went back to using a plug-in Miele, which has its own set of problems btw. Full size vacuums are powerful but you end up vacuuming less because they're annoying to get out and put away, so you live with more dust.

      • Love my V7, I vacuum everyday, sometimes twice a day. It takes a fraction of the time to vacuum my home compared to the corded electrolux. Constant cord tangling or hose kinking - really frustrating… I have the ozito battery adapter, ozito batteries are always on sale at bunnings. Just swap out the dead one, insert a fully charged one and keep on vacuuming.

      • The full story with the Dyson V6 Animal was that the battery died about 1-2 weeks after the warranty period had ended. I rang Dyson and they couldn't care less about the timing and wanted an exorbitant amount for a replacement battery. So, to save money, I purchased a replacement battery from a third-party, and whilst it worked OK for a while, it too started to intermittently experience issues. Since I wasn't impressed with Dyson's customer support given the premium price compared to their competitors, I explored other options (i.e., Xiaomi/Dreame). Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, it seems they all have issues to some degree. Since we now live in a dustier part of the country and more frequent vacuuming is required, the performance is likely the key consideration over price, but certainly if there is an alternative that performs comparably to Dyson's latest models, and I can save some money in the process, that would be preferrable!

        • Your experience with the V6 battery is identical to mine. Genuine replacement was 2/3 the price of vacuum, bought a 3rd party which only lasted a few months before issues - couldn’t be bothered going any further.

The Xiaomi G10 at the time was excellent value I felt ($240 ish), but unfortunately their newer models are either lacklustre or waaay more expensive now (almost as expensive as Dyson).

I was very reluctant to give Dyson more money after having a similar experience to you, but I will say the product is solid and it’s been less frustrating/stressful since replacing the U20 with the Gen5detect…ask me in a couple of years though if (when) the Dyson dies again though…

    • I bought this one as my spare one replacing my dyson v6 that is dying after 7 years, about 6 months ago, use it as a backup to robovac.

For the price, there is not much too complain, so far it works the same way as my v6, light and love the lights. It also come with extra attachment for sofa or mattress.

It does have a light to indicate that it is charging, and i find that it is quite easy to clean the bin.

    • I have a dreame T20 with that exact same issue. If you google T20 error, you'll see videos of many others with the same problem. It's a critical design fault. I can't use it on high. I also had a dreame v9 before that too.

I think this U20 is from their budget range, not in the same league as the V9 or T20, but I'm happy to be corrected.

  • one thing bothers me is that this model doesn't have a charge indicator so no way to find out whether its actually charging. Also, its painful to empty the dust cell

  • +1
  • Bought a Xiaomi Dreame V9 in October 2020 for $259. Still works well. Replaced Hepa filter and it was as good as new in terms of cleaning power. Doesn’t quite do the whole house on a single charge any more. A decent replacement battery was going to cost me over $100 and I haven’t got around to ordering one as I am not convinced of longevity claims.

This was an immediate buy. I will be happy if I get 5 years out of it like the V9. I will probably keep the V9 charged as a backup.

  • Is it over? I don't see any discount.

  • Oos

  • Anyone able to share their invoice showing the $199 check out price please?

  • Dreame's LED Optic Technology is a key advantage over Dyson

  • I own the T40 that I bought in 2021 and is still going strong. Is this the next version up? Noticed they no stopped making models in the T series or am I wrong?
