    PoE colour camera

You'd hope in 2025 surveillance cameras are in colour 😋

This is a "ColorX" camera, i.e. colour night vision. Not as good as the discontinued CX410 for night vision, but better daylight image since it bumped up from 2K to 4K.

Having purchased two of these recently, you should be aware that to achieve better night vision they run with lights on all the time at night, this light is then boosted by a sensor light when motion is detected.

    • +1

Is it possible to configure the lights to only trigger when motion is detected?

      • +2

Nope. It used to be possible with the CX410 but was removed in a firmware update. Ridiculous decision to not have that feature.

        • +1

Thanks for this. Really need something good without this stupid light always on. It spooks everyone and neighbours.

          Any suggestions?

          • +2

@CrypticM: You can change settings so that the light is always off, but then you need to ensure there's sufficient ambient lighting - Something similar to when there's a full moon.

            • +3

@ddd: Thanks. In that case, it's better to buy non ColourX models where IR comes in handy .

I've been going back and forth with support about this firmware and even suggested that they upda the product pages to inform prospective buyers that this is now the case.

They've been helpful but so far no actual results apart from offering to exchange my devices with the same devices but they don't seem to get that the software is what's the issue.

Maybe if enough people complain they might bring the auto sensing lights back.

      • I have the bullet version of this camera (CX810) and there is a setting under the Spotlight called Smart Mode which will only trigger the light upon detecting person, vehicle or animal. I can set a schedule for this light to work only during those hours. I have the latest firmwave and this feature is still there.

Dim light at night, brightens when motion is detected

          • +1

@ShadowSaver: My Smart Mode light stays off until motion is detected. Once motion is gone the light will switch off after about 10-15 seconds.

            • @gabes: that does not happen with the ones I have, smart mode just leaves the lights on and then brightens when movement is detected

            • +1

@gabes: I think it depends on the ambient light.

              • @ShadowSaver: You're probably right. There's a street light near my house which possibly makes the camera think it's bright enough to not have to leave its built-in light on.

I assume this is that new "colourX" marketing they're using that I see in the marketing material

I've been eyeing the RLC-833A model - I hope it doesn't have an always on light.

      • My other cams are RLC-1224s and they perform really well only reason I got the cx was the hope they behaved the same way as the non colour models.

    • +1

      thanks, good to know.
not a fan of unwanted light pollution at night - street lights in my area are already plenty, and I suspect the amount needed to allow (even initial trigger) detection on camera would be too much to leave running all night

    Is this better than this?

    • +3

      Dummy.

      In more ways than one.

      • Because it’s a 2-pack!

  • +1

Great cams. Use code "HalloweenAFF6" for a further 6% off sitewide if spending under $400.

Brings the price to $140.99 for one or $139.11 each for two.

    I miss AliExpress…

    • Lot of complaints on overwhelming spot light on these cameras. Any solution for this?

      • Er, either turn down the brightness, use Timer or Smart mode to have them only kick in during particular hours and/or for particular detections or just turn the lights off if you already have sufficient ambient light to satisfy the minimal requirement for ColorX cams.

I’ve seen lots of reviews and reddit posts, but wasn’t aware of this complaint?
