Wi-Fi/Landline Query (Belong Ported to Arctel)

Hey all,

So a friend of mine signed up to Arctel recently, and ported away from Belong…

He also bought a Deco AC1200 to replace the one belong gave him.

But he forgot that sometimes his wife works from home, where they "require" her to connect a landline to make and answer phone calls - previously she was able to just plug the landline into the belong modem, and it would work, but it doesn't work with arctel and the deco.

Is this something that Arctel can resolve?

I've never had a landline, so I've got no clue how these things work, just trying to help a poor friend in need wot 😭

    I've never had a landline

    Landlines no longer exist.

    You will need to use a VOIP service and use a router with an ATA built in, or purchase a separate ATA and connect to your router.

    Then configure the ATA to long into your VOIP service… Then you can make 'landline type' calls.

    CrazyTel have some cheap plans if you need a new VOIP service… They can also sell you an ATA if you do not have one.

  • I am not an expert, but I presume you mean a VoIP phone rather than traditional landline. The NBN fibre box has a UNI-V port for that very purpose.

    Contact them tomorrow and ask to speak to tech support team. They should be able to help.

    Arctel have been pretty decent for a few months with stable 500mbps (for $50/month) up until today when they had a massive outage that still isn't resolved.

    • I'm posting this from my Arctel connection right now. Not why you think the issue is still ongoing?

      • No resolved status update since this and it's still down no matter how many times I restart both the NBN box and eero. Using the backup connection.

        • Yeah I got that one, wasn't home at the time to know if my connection did go down. But I've been using my Arctel connection this evening without any issues. Sucks if you're still experiencing them :(

    You'll need to either:

    Buy a Voip phone or
    Buy an ATA This is the popular one
    http://grandstream.com/products/gateways-and-atas/analog-tel…
    or Buy a router with built in ATA like this
    DSL-X1852E

    You can't use the UNI-V Port anymore for new connections.

    Been using Crazytel for VOIP. Makes it easier to churn NBN.
    BUT if your NBN is delivered by CG-NAT that can stop calls coming in. Even with Tailscale as I can’t install Tailscale on the router or the phone. But in Crazytel’s software you can select routing and send incoming VOIP calls to a mobile. Calls out from the VOIP phone still working OK.
    Still working on getting around the CG-NAT.

    • Also using Crazytel here, but haven't had any issues with incoming or outgoing calls, even behind CGNAT

      • I gather you are using a proper ATA. I’m just using my very old Exetel router H268A.

  • Is there a real landline anymore in metro and town areas? Out woop woop where pair gain w3as used I expect there still to be real landlines.
    POTS === landline.
    landline != VOIP.

  • Who was your friend paying for their 'landline' service?

    • Good question, because last time I checked Belong never offered an nbn home phone service over VoIP
