    Standard price cycle by Colesworth

    • +7

It’s not. Mostly they drop down to $9 every second week and last couple of weeks went down to $8 at Colesworth alternately.
They only do half price every 4-5 months or so.

  • +3

You forgot this flavour https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/6040669/ha… . It's always my personal favourite but previously I could only buy when I visited other countries.

  • +6

best ingredients across all ice creams sold at Woolies?

    • Yes. Their ingredients list is impressively short.

      • Better than Ben Jerry?

        • Impossible to tell since Ben & Jerry is a very different icecream. They are heavy on the inclusions and I can't tell from the ingredients list what makes the icecream and what makes the inclusions.

With the Haagen Dazs Vanilla, Rum & Raisin and their Strawberry its very easy to see whats what… since the inclusions are all simple single ingredients.

  • +1

6.75 for such a tiny amount of icecream is crazy, let alone 13. Who pays for that?

    • +26

Its got top quality ingredients. Not filled up with fillers like other ice creams, that's why it's expensive.

        • +18

What are they? All other ice creams included various fillers.

I wouldn't pay $13 for this but as it's half price its good value.

Just look at the strawberries & cream ingredients:
Fresh Cream (35%), Condensed Skim Milk, Strawberries (21%), Sugar, Egg, Yolk, Water

The other ice creams still have their place, but I think the Haagan-Dazs is in a slightly higher, premium category, compared to say a connoisseur.

People who don't want to buy fake ice cream.

        • +2

You still haven't named the supposedly quality cheap option

        • +5

You're really annoying - name a better icecream for cheaper or stfu.

          • -5

@fivespice: Crazy how defensive people get when they are told they are paying way too much for ice cream of all things.

            • +5

@adehmar: You still haven't named any of these cheaper options you mentioned.

      • +3

People who don't want to buy fake ice cream.

please use the proper terms. fake ice cream makes it sound more ice cream than it deserves.

dairy-less ice creams have to use the term "frozen desert". at least they are meant to have that on the front of the package near the logo.

        • +2

          I find these too sandy

          • @timthetoolman: also worth mentioning. many dairy-less ice creams don't follow the "frozen desert" rule. literally try to hide the fact there's no butter/dairy.

pretty sure if you got shafted you can report them, and next batch will magically have frozen desert label again. but seems like whenever they get caught it's just a slap on the wrist.

    • +2

Yet people don't blink an eye at paying $7+ for a small cup of gelato?

      • Thats when you are out, not sitting at home.

        • So you like being a sucker in public.

      • That's when you go out, not the same. And I agree anyways.

    • +4

Tell me you know nothing about ice cream without telling me.

HD is expensive, but it’s the best quality ice cream that you can buy at Colesworth.

    • +1

      Quality > quantity.

Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream Caramel Biscuit & Cream 457mL(woolworths.com.au)

Can’t seem to find Caramel Biscuit & Cream flavour anymore for months.

    • That is my favourite flavour

      • Strawberry shortcake is mine. Only saw it in Europe and never seen it back home :(

  • Whoa I didn't know Häagen-Dazs did rum & raisin! Anyone tried it?

      • Lol it's a favourite of theirs but not enough to mention the flavour's name!

        • I thought posting the link was more direct.
Anyway when I was overseas I also tried pineapple & coconut. All my favourites are: rum & rasin (no.1), strawberry and pineapple & coconut (both no.2), mango and cream (no.3, different from mango raspberry)

    • Tried it two days ago. It isn’t your kind of ordinary taste. To me, it’s a bit too milky and the rum soaked raisin kinda gives a tart, stinging sensation to the throat. Maybe I am not used to liquored ice cream. Pretty sure it won’t be my favourite Häagen-Dazs flavour. I got two tubs and will slowly try to get back to it.

      • You've convinced me to give it a try to see if I feel the same.

        • Go for it! It’s a flavour you either love or loathe it. I am still undecided. I thought the taste was kinda weird but it’s good to have a change especially for these more premium ice cream to stand out from the other vanilla (pun intended) flavours.

          • +1

@FrugalNotStingy: Just had it. Yeahhh… not amazing. I like how simplistic the list of ingredients are but there wasn't a lot of taste to the ice cream itself. I also missed the light brown colour that rum and raisin often has.

            • @Guybrush57: Thanks for reporting back :)
Did you find any tartness? It's more like simple milk ice cream with some kinda sweet and some sourness of the raisin and a bit of sting from the rum. Don't know how to explain. Flavour not so rich but also cannot say it's bland because of the rum raisin but not sure if they complement the ice cream that well. It's complex 😅

    • +1

Had one last night/ today. Its quite good but I am not a run & raisin expert.

Real rum too … they list the icecream as having 1.5% alcohol by volume. No other flavourings. Not even vanilla…. o.0

    • +1

      Real rum… 1.5% alcohol.

    Owned by Nestle

    Obligatory r/f**knestle

    • +3

      Wrong.

It's owned by General Mills every Except US and Canada.

  • A few of those flavours are unavailable. Im guessing old flavours not sold anymore.

    • +2

Coles has restocked Mango & Raspberry and now sell it as a ‘new’ flavour.

      • $6.75 there as well?

        • Nah. Full price this week. Next week might be on special.

  • I picked up an odd blueberry flavour at coles some year ago - i must say it was comparable with the strawberry and cream. I hope they can bring it back again :/

  • Wtf Kapiti ice cream has emulsifier added to it? Thought I'd compare the two since they are popular here.

  • +1

Can anyone recommend which flavours I should try first? Going to buy 3. TIA

    • +1

The Biscoff one is my favourite

    • +1

Salted caramel is great but quite sweet, if that's your preference.

I also love the pralines & cream

    • +1

      Coffee.

      • I find their coffee is too weak. Aldi’s Indulge coffee mocha has a stronger, fuller coffee taste. Ingredients not in the same league but I prefer that over Häagen-Dazs coffee. Their used to available Brownie Macchiato was divine though, one of the best ice cream I tried.

        • Aldi's one to me has a false coffee taste

          • @adam149: Not sure but maybe Aldi's one put in cheap coffee powder 😂 Anything but fake from what I can taste. Häagen Dazs one just didn't give me the kick and every time after I ate Aldi's one, my pee smells like coffee just like after I drank coffee.

    • Thanks. Biscoff, Salted Caramel and Coffee it will be

      • Depends if the store has any. Our had only 10 tubs left. Five Strawberry, one vanilla, two rum, two coffee.. that was it.

    • +2

I like the strawberry. It’s very fruity and creamy.

  • -4

afaik haagendazs still use butter. so you will become a fatty if you eating these on regular basis. 😀

    • +2

Love how you can make up shit but it's ok because you have afaik at the start of the sentence.

      • no they use butter look it up. or if you are talking about becoming fat. waiting for your "I 've eaten icecream everyday for my entire life and I'm not fat" comment. 🤣

someone commented some newer flavours don't. but usually not everyone is going to read the ingredients at the store.

        • +1

Stay off the glass bbq. There's no "butter" in the ice cream.

          • -2

@adam149: what's with ozb users and accusing others of being on drugs or alcohol?? this is like the 7th time now. projecting about your past deeds much? 😀

uh also you don't seem to understand the difference between icecream and frozen desert. 😂 and you didn't even take 2 seconds to google it before replying. 🤦‍♀️

ok tbf I forgot to say "egg and butter".

but tbh I am done here. I didn't realise when making my original comment I had to convince the smartest person in the world, that real icecream has egg and butter in it. my advice. so👏cia👏lise👏

            • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: The term is 'milk fat'. Not 'butter'.

I know of one guy in Brazil that makes his icecream using butter, but thats only because its cheaper than cream and the restaurant he works in gets large quantities of butter anyways.

Sometimes on icecream ingredient lists you can see something like this: Dairy Ingredients (Cream (Milk) (Minimum 17%) and/or Milk Fat, Skimmed Milk Concentrate, Milk Solids) - the manufacturer gets to generate the icecream dairy using pretty much anything - cream, milk fat, milk and milk powder. This is because the manufacturer can not guarantee that their inputs on the manufacturing day have the right fat/protein/lactose levels. So they tinker with their inputs to get things exact.

But that is not the case with Haagen Dazs. Presumably their manufacturing volume is so large in their production facilities in France that they have the ability to dictate the quality of the cream precisely which can't be done in Australia.

              • @RnR: I just chose one haagen dazs flavour at random, and it says "egg yolk" and "butter oil" on the list of ingredients.

butter oil is more or less just melted butter isn't it? when you put butter in the pan it's to oil the pan. I thought the reason they refer to it as butter oil is because when making ice cream they have to mix it in it's melted form.

But that is not the case with Haagen Dazs.

so we are agreeing then. it has butter. haagen dazs is famous for being one of the companies that made real good tasting ice cream.

                • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: lol - one at random. There is only one that uses 'butter oil' and its not butter… its just another name for ghee.

I know you are just having argumentative fun, but for the sake of the argument, have a look at the vanilla. Just cream. No butter :)

                  • -1

                    @RnR:

                    lol - one at random.

I wasn't kidding. ok I will choose another at random and have a look again. also afaik most of them used those ingredients, which is why they tasted so good (dense, creamy, but on the heavier side which some people don't like). I read a few comments recently that said newer flavours don't use egg and butter anymore. but I took that to mean majority still did.

I know you are just having argumentative fun,

yes it is tbh. I made my original comment just to point out haagen dazs were known and famous for making ice cream the proper way, therefore not the healthiest. but I'm not a big icecream eater at all and could really care less about back and forth about icecreams. 😂

                  • -1

                    @RnR: chose Macadamia this time.

Egg Yolk, Glucose Syrup, Macadamia Nuts (1%), Vegetable Oil, Butter (Milk),

not exactly the same but very similar imo. why do they put "butter (milk)". is it milk or butter which is it?! 😭

you have to also understand, I'm not a big cook either. so to me, if it's the lardy, oily cholesterol part of butter, health wise it may as well be eating butter. not really informed about all different ways things can be refined, I had to look up what "ghee" was. my meals are mostly made up from items that don't need cooking.

    • +2

Butter is still better than other crap oils or fillers.

    • Not in the ingredients.

  • +1

Sad they dont do cookies n cream anymore

    • +1

this was my favourite!! Bring it back

  • Coffee ftwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
People saying this is expensive. Go buy your home brand crap and keep more for us.

  • Only 10 tubs left at our Woolies, strawberry, rum, vanilla, coffee. Got one of each to try.

  • In some language this almost translates to “10 poops”

  • +1

You can get some of their varieties for $4 at ten tops occasionally

  • +1

Definitely the best vanilla ice cream at Colesworth, to me it taste like connoisseur ice cream use to taste like before they removed most of the cream.

  • Very nice premium ice cream,my favorite.

  • +2

Did an experiment after watching a tiktok video.

There bowls with three different ice creams. One scoop. Ice cream brands used - Häagen-Dazs, Coles brand and Connoisseur.

    After few hours -
Haagen Dazs was the only icream that melt…like melt normally as an ice cream.

Coles and Connoisseur looked weird, they did melt slightly but remained pulpy.

Left it overnight and same thing next morning! Looks like HD was the only one with few ingredients and minimal artificial stuff.

    • +1

The pulpy stuff is highly possible due to the thickeners and vegetable gums.

      • The time when ice cream were just milk and good stuff. Now…it's all the thickness and gums.

  • Wish they started importing the blueberry variety again…

  • I got the Salted Caramel and it was great 😃
Just a little too sweet, even I like sweets.
The best way to get diabetes.
