Gaming Laptop from Costco Advice

Hi, I’m trying to find a gaming laptop to use for games (specially GTA 6 when it comes out next year!) and to use for work and stuff.

I found some from Costco with the RTX 5060 for about $2,000-$2200. I also found some with RTX 5070 or RTX 4060 for about $2,700.

That’s a lot more than I was wanting to pay. Was initially budgeting around $1200-$1500 but thought I could push it to $2000 and get a decent graphics card and hopefully it can last me for a while. But not sure if paying $2700 means I am set for a good while without the need to upgrade in the near future??

Anyway, I don’t know much about the different hardware and how they perform so was hoping for advice on what is recommended or if anyone knows another supplier that has a good gaming laptop for $1500/$2000 ish.

Since your budget is $2000, neither of them is suitable for you.

That's very insightful. It's impressive you can read numbers.

Maybe he only linked those two laptops to show what he's currently looking at, and hopes we can point him to something under $2k that has similar performance…

5070 laptop and below id only use on 1080p/1440p screens firstly. And Id seriously consider a second hand 4060 laptop from marketplace, you can find a bunch going for under 1500 and prob make an offer down near 1k, 1.2k.

If want new, check this page run by popular youtuber JarrodsTech, or search "5060 laptop" on ozb, save the search snd youll be notified if theres a deal on here

Watch Jarrods youtube if you want get an idea of whether its worth spending more for x/y, id say jump to 5070ti and skip 5070 personally.

My 3060 acer still going strong even on a 1440p screen and many modern games, but gets bit choppy on very new aaa depending on title.

Will you actually be gaming away from home a lot?

If not, you can always spend $1500 on a much-more-powerful gaming desktop, then $500 on a much-more-portable laptop.

$2000 and better in every way than a $3000 gaming laptop.

    • A $500 laptop would be a dog

Or you push it out to $1k for the notebook since OP is considering $2.7k for an option with longevity. Cant beat the longevity of a desktop where you can upgrade the GPU and sell the old one.

GTA6 has no PC planned release at this point, at least not within 2026.

Just got delayed to November 2026 for consoles. Probably at least another year from then before we see a PC release

    2026 or maybe 2027…

I'd leave it for at leave 10 months until the situation becomes clearer and you can see what Laptops can hack it and the price point.

That's for the console release as well. PC version still not announced but probably going to release 6-12 months after console so you're probably looking at late 2027.

GTA6 for PC will most likely come out 2 years after console if you consider history. So dont buy anything now.

The PC version of GTA V was released almost two years after the initial console versions. It launched for PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by the PC version in April 2015.

You might not get to play the PC port of the game until 2027 or 2028.. and by then your RTX 50 series might be a minimum specification rather than in the 'recommended' specifications bracket.

Beware that laptop variants of GPUs are generally have only 50-60% of the performance compared to the desktop variants. So a 5070 desktop GPU performs way better than a 5070 mobile GPU. And generally gaming is more comfortable and advantageous with a larger/faster monitor. I'd get a cheapish or 2nd-hand laptop and a play on a desktop.
