Cracking deal for what was rated the best OLED TV by RTINGS in 2025: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-type/oled

To get this price you need to do the following:
$3,234.05 (RRP $5,299)
-$50 Black Friday eVoucher (had to sign up prior)
-$150 Trade-up old TV (get a broken TV from the dump)
-$151.70 (5% off first purchase)
-$144.12 (5% loyalty voucher - ask Samsung chat)
= $2,738.23

TopCashback is ineligible due to use of eVouchers and unapproved codes, so this is the best possible price IIRC.

A negative (or plus) is that it won't be shipped until late November - but this is still a good opportunity to reserve a good deal and cancel later during Black Friday if you see a better deal in the meantime.

This product cannot be delivered to a number of postcodes in NSW, QLD, VIC and WA (as well as all of TAS and NT).

VERY good TV at a very good price. Definitely try checking this one out in person at a local store - if you like the matte finish, you'll get a lot of mileage out of this bad boy.

  • +1

    That's actually an amazing price!

    • +1

Is it though? Just via the main shop, you have:

      $3499 listed
      $250 trade-in
$50 e-voucher if you signed up
      10% loyalty
      5% first time app user

      Which is… cheaper.

If the 10% loyalty is there for the EPP users then you're looking good, but I would still call that a deal that others could expect in a month or so.

      • 5% first time app user doesn't exist anymore - but you do get the Samsung pay discount 5% instead on the main store

Much of a muchness though - you get a $3 saving

        • $5, but I think my point was that if EPP isn't letting you use 10% loyalty then it's worth waiting for a much better deal. My bad on the source of the other 5% bonus, good to know!

          • @jasswolf: I did try it - exact same 10% code you get on Samsung main store just converts to 5% on the Edu store if you use it there instead

Since it's a pre-order you can still order this and cancel within the next month or so for full refund before dispatch - so no risk really if a good deal comes along

  • Whats the price for 83 inch and 77 inch?

    • $5,099.05 for 77
      $6,999.05 for 83

Nothing crazy but if you code stack with the 77 you can get it down to $4,421.39.

      • +2

I think the 77 and 83 use the WOLED panel and not the QD-OLED panel, so the rtings review is not indicative. But would still be a great panel.
As a general rule, models ending in 'WXXY' use QD-OLED and models ending in 'EXXY' use the WOLED panel.

        • +1

          83 does
          77 does not

  • +8

Great TV - terrible, terrible OS. Mega regrets

    • +1

      Why?
Any FTA apps you would expect to run and can't?

      • No youtube alternatives (main one), slow, crashes a lot.

        • Check out TizenTube. A bit of effort to set up but works well for me

    • +4

Always use another device like a Google Streamer 4K/ Mi Box S. It will handle anything and everything will be smooth

      • so you need another remote, another device, another powerpoint spot - just to overcome the shortcomings of this TV

        • +5

Put the TV remote away and just run everything through the Google/Apple/Firestick dongle. Easy.

          • +1

@dontpanic: Yeah make sure to enable HDMI CEC, with the remotes you can then control volume, turn off tv, etc…

      • +1

For this account of money, from a company that CAN develop OS's (such as PlayStation OS) I should not have to do that.

        • I agree, however I am yet to find a TV that I've been satisfied with the built in OS performance (whether that be software or hardware processing) all the way up to $120,000.

I have Apple TVs on my TVs and it's great, new TCL I use the Google TV OS for Smarttube and that's it.

    • +1

Lol yep, I paid the Sony tax instead, changed from a Samsung TV.
The interface is so much better, Tizen OS is balls.
LG OS is still the worst, but obviously this is just subjective, people have different tastes.
      Still, amazing panel.

      • I was considering an LG - what's wrong with LG os?

        • +1

I just find it the least intuitive, clunky and messy.
Sometimes crashes and I have to restart the TV.
Also the menu is more cumbersome to navigate than Sony's.

          • @Eriadnile: I agree the LG os is by far the worst interface I have ever had to use. I will specifically never buy an LG TV because of this.

            • +1

@dlakers3peat: As an owner of both an LG and Samsung TV as well as a Shield, there's a fair bit of hyperbole in this thread. Both the LG and Samsung OS run fine (on non trash tier sets) and do what they're needed to. I've seen them both run on lower grade TVs and they are laggy AF but if you're shopping lower down you should be looking at Hisense mini-LED anyway.

Are they as good as the Shield? No. But they get me to the content I want just fine, what else do you need?

          • @Eriadnile: I agree. I find LG incredibly unintuitive, just seems to put things in the least logical place/least consistent vs every other TV/Mobile/PC OS.

I actually used to find Samsung's very intuitive, but they've riddled it with ads and sponsored content and it's now slower and clunkier than it used to be.

Generally Google TV is probably the best, but it's also the most invasive.

Tbh all of the TV OS have their issues (speed, ads, spyware/telemetry), it's just a matter of which is least objectionable to you. Or buy an Apple TV which has some format limitations and no option for ad free YouTube, but otherwise pretty flawless.

      • +8

Deciding on a TV primarily based on the OS is not the wisest approach IMHO.

Manufacturers will eventually slow or stop updates, and you'll be limited by the hardware as time goes by.

Just look for the best quality screen at the best possible price and hook up a Google TV / Apple TV / Firestick (which you can upgrade as long as the TV lasts).

        • +2

This is the way. Pay ~150 on a streamer and save 1000 on the TV.

        • Agreed, given the OS can easily be replaced with a (relatively) cheap product that will perform better.

I loved my X90J with google TV, but it was freaking slow which killed the experience a bit.

      • +1

Agreed, I used to have the 1st gen Sony OLED TV, and now still using the Samsung QD-OLED S95B, compared to Sony, I rather go back to Sony and paid the Sony tax, there is something about the Sony TV engine that are better, image quality and experience are better, my Samsung Solar remote control are just rubbish, broke and stopped working for no reason, had my 5th replacement so far. Image wise Samsung is good, but Sony is just better.

        • Did they give the replacement for free? They sent one replacement for free for my s95b. The old one only works in infrared mode now.

    • +1

get a tv box, shield and/or install something like kodi on it?

      Sif use the TV os.

      TV Rocks.

      SIF!

    • +1

Who uses the OS. Get an Apple TV or Google Streamer

  • +1

Get an Amazon fire 4K tv stick for $60 problem solved

    • aka, there's a problem.

      • -1

        Easily solved though.

      • It's a problem across all TVs currently on the market in Aus though. I did hear good things about Roku OS in the US a few years ago, but we never got them here, and no idea if it's still any good.

An Apple TV, nVidia Shield, or even a Google TV stick/Fire TV Stick will all be significantly superior than any TV on the market for minimal cost. Should you have to as a consumer? No. But add that to the list of **** consumers have to put up with.

        • Any TV on the market… other than the TV's on the Australian market that have google tv built in as their main OS? Such as Sony and the TCL C8K/C7K/C6K and older gen models going back a few years now.

Great panels paired with a great OS and a good enough chip to make it snappy. So yeah it's not a problem across all tv's on the aus market, just the LGs and Samsungs? Or I guess anyone not using Google TV/Android TV

          • @fAffY: I have a brand new C7K running Google OS and the only reason I interact with the OS is for Smarttube.

It’s slow, excruciatingly clunky when first turned on, poorly laid out, riddled with ads, and being Google an absolute disaster zone for privacy/telemetry/tracking. But yes, it’s still better than WebOS or Tizen these days.

            • @SanguinarySeraph: I wouldn't call the OS riddled with ads but the apps like youtube definitely have plenty, smarttube is a great alternative. I am surprised you're finding yours is clunky and laggy, might be worth looking at getting it replaced? Yours is the C7K and not the top of the line C8K but they should share the same processor?

I have last gen's C855 and it is SUPER quick to turn on and get around the OS. But yeah in terms of privacy, all of the above options are awful about privacy and telemetry, my point was that google is seemingly the only somewhat competent one that allows you to install apps with relative ease and is nice to use.

              • @fAffY: Each to their own. I can’t stand it personally.

There’s ads for random **** I will never watch on the Home Screen along with 20 or so apps that you cannot uninstall. It’s maybe unfair to call it laggy, but it’s very slow to ‘come up to speed’ when turning on. After the first 20-30 seconds it’s passable I guess.

I agree that it’s still the best on offer, but I don’t agree that’s it’s ‘good’ at least by my standards. I’d settle for ‘least bad’, but like politics that doesn’t count for much.

My issue is ultimately that while it may be less bad than other TVs, it’s an absolute joke compared an Apple TV, any contemporary mobile phone or computer. That’s fine for entry level products but ‘premium’ offerings should be better - do better.

                • @SanguinarySeraph: Yeah I feel you with this, I do hate the fact that apps like netflix are pre-installed even if you don't select them. And yeah I am definitely blending "least-bad" with "good" just because it's the best TV specific OS experience I've had so far, even if they still have ALOT to improve upon. I'm with you on GoogleTV being the least bad but I feel like if you live with a modern WebOS or TizenOS for a little bit, the shortcomings of GoogleTV hurt a bit less. Also yeah it's nice to use it for things like a Jellyfin server where, samsung outright don't have a jellyfin app so you're forced to use Plex

No Dolby Vision or DTS support is an immediate no buy for me

    • Wouldn't your soundbar for receiver be decoding the DTS anyway?

  • +5

Replaced my Samsung S90F with a Sony and super happy with it. I had multiple issues with Samsungs including intermittent HDR issues which requires constant restarting, previously also had the S90D which would randomly drop Hdmi signals. Terrible experience with Samsung customer service too as they don't believe issues that are intermittent and hard to reproduce on demand.

IMO, better off with a better quality Sony for a bit more, which comes with a vastly superior OS, powerful processor (even better than the latest Google streamer) which means you don't need a media box etc with another remote, better support, less headaches.

    Just my 2c, YMMV.

    • Did you have an issue with the Solar remote control? mine keep on stop working on my S95B.

      • No didn't have any problems with the controller. Crappy design though.

  • It's all subjective from our own experiences. I've not touched a Sony tv in my life (haven't had the chance) but out of LG and Samsung, I preferred the Samsung experience (and that's with having to "hack" into the software menu to disable the PWM effect of the tv which made the brightness of the screen alter depending on whether the content watched was light or dark. Felt like I was going to have a seizure Homer Simpson in Japan style with it enabled).

I'm going to be in the market for a new tv soon (current Samsung being 5 years old. Feels like it's going to break any second) and the 90F/95F look like ideal replacements. But I'd have to visit a store first and see what its like (sensitive eyes, my eyes don't do well with OLED pc screens, so I assume I'll have just as much trouble with 65" OLED versions too lol).

    • +1

Case in point, my parents have 2 Sony LED/LCD TVs, one's 9 years old, other is close to 14 years old. Zero issues, the older one is now in the patio and is always exposed to dust and bit of moisture and continues to works as it did on day one.

      • Panasonic tv's were all the rage in the 2000's, I know people that still have working Panasonic plasma tv's from the late 2000's, the things just won't die lol.Still good enough for 1080p content…. but obviously can't do 4K.

        • Yea Panasonic's are great too, shame they don't sell newer versions here anymore. Their new OLED is doing very well in USA.

      • +1

Counterpoint, I had 2 Sony TVs - one died after 3.5 years and was an absolute nightmare to get resolution to the point I ended up just getting a refund.

Another one lasted 6 months, didn’t die but I returned on the basis of general shittiness - just everything about it was mediocre and got worse with each software update.

I’d say Sony, Samsung, LG, TCL Hisense are all roughly on par in terms of reliability. You win some you lose some, warranty can be difficult with any of them. It’s all just a spin of the wheel.

  • I am in admiration of the yugioh combo you have going on this one. Too many hoops for me, but this is some t0 optimised stuff.

    • +1

      I'm a min-maxer in everything I do man

I got the 65" S85F for $1,628.72 in July with the NPP not sure if this feels like a deal.

    • +1

That's the lowest tier Samsung OLED model - this one is the highest tier offering from Samsung

This is a competitor to the LG G5, whereas yours would compete with the LG B5 etc.

      • More if it's actually worth the extra $1000, why the negs :|

    • You're comparing the S85F to the S95F?

      • He is, and is the S85F 65" QD-OLED or WOLED? Becuase the S95F is QD while the S90F is WOLED at 65" in Aus.

      • More on the price!

  • -1

just double check this is qd oled before you buy, in australia alot of qd oleds can be w oleds

    • From everything I can find, and based on the Aus product code, its QD-OLED. The "W" indicates QD while an "E" indicates WOLED. If you compare the S90Fs, which have 55' QD and the larger sizes in WOLED, you can see they have distinct codes (…FAE…).

  • I managed to snag this for $2754.48.

I know people are complaining about Dolby vision and the interface, but RTINGS have this TV as their no. 1 recommendation for picture quality and brightness, as well as overall for OLED up against the G5 and Bravia. I'm not fussed on sound and will gladly stick a google streamer on it for the smoother experience (my previous Bravia X90J had google TV but it was pretty slow).

I hadn't signed up for the $50 voucher, but used the following:
    - a westpac offer from my partners credit card (log in and use link to samsung store - ~9% off sale price to $3200 when entering store through their portal)
    - asking samsung chat for a loyalty discount (10% discount - required photo of a samsung product with serial number visible just pasted in the chat)
    - trade in with old TV 48" size (only $150 through this portal, rather than $250 through accessing store via google)
    - 5% First time store purchase - pretty sure this was not first purchase, so dunno how they detect this but it appeared to be active

Its not clear which deals actually stacked and which overlapped in checkout, because the end discount seems to be somewhere around 18% off the sale price and they didn't display them all (definitely was not the full 25%). In any case, came close to the price OP got.

    Good luck everybody

  • Great panel, but no DV support doesn't sit right with me. This is why I purchased a Bravia 8 II. QD-OLED and DV.

  • If you haven't seen this one in person, this has the matte finish - it's considerably better than their first attempts and is fantastic with bright content, I personally still prefer the non-matte surfaces to achieve a deeper looking black in average daylight scenarios. I think it's absolutely a personal preference, though.
