Asparagus Bunch $0.99 @ ALDI

1070

This is a fantastic price for a bunch of fresh asparagus. At $0.99, it's significantly cheaper than Colesworth ($1.80).

If you're looking for a healthy and quick side dish, this is a stock-up price.

Pro tip: A quick way to use these is to roast them with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper, or pan-fry them with some garlic and butter.

Check your local ALDI store for stock. Quality may vary by location.

Was $1 last week at Coles & Woolies, so effectively, you are saving 1 cent.

Hey man one cent was a lot back in the day.

      • What do you mean "back in the day?" - with this govt that's a lot.

      • Yeah, my Granny walked the length of the main street to save a halfpenny

Now, my story begins in nineteen-dickety-two. We had to say "dickety" cause that Kaiser had stolen our word "twenty". I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles…

Only if you swipe an EFTPOS card, otherwise you're spending more money.

Only if you swipe/tap an EFTPOS card, otherwise you're spending more the same money.

        FIFY: $0.99 + 0.5% = $0.99495 $1

        • I feel like i lost money reading this somehow

      • unless you buy something else that costs $X.X1 and you have the right coinage

    • Plus I find Woolies quality is much better than Aldi's

    • Not in WA

        Of course not

Seasonable vegetable prices are seasonal - who'd have thought?
    And local.

    this is a stock-up price.

I think we need to explain the concept of fresh vegetables. I suppose you could blanch and freeze?

If you happen to have a garden, and some patience, they are surprisingly easy to grow. Seed packet was about $2, now have enough asparagus for life and plenty to give away to friends too.

    • +1

Recently planted since from root stock from a friend. Amazing how much they can grow in a day

      • +2

Yes, I forgot one stick that I wanted to harvest yesterday morning, by this evening it had doubled in size to around 70cm. Having a hard time fitting it into the fridge…

From root stock (they call it crown), it will be quicker. For us it's 3 years since we planted the seedlings (germinated indoors in pots around August 2022). After one year: just a couple of spears to try the flavour. The rest left to grow and to build up the crown under ground. After 2 years: all we could eat. Now, after 3 years: all we can eat and plenty to give away. Plants are supposed to live for 30 years or so, and they self-seed, we're getting additional ones popping up in nearby garden beds :-)

        • it had doubled in size to around 70cm. Having a hard time fitting it into the fridge…

          That's what she said.

      A garden? In this economy?!

      • +1

I know, right. Better idea for that space…

Put up a box with some cutout windows and a flap door.
        Call it a granny flat.
List it as a house for rent on real estate sites.
        Profit.
Buy asparagus from Aldi for $0.99 per bunch.

    I love asparagus. 🥊

Pan fry in oil with salt and pepper, don't steam.

    • +1

Try quick blanch + ice bath + butter sear

Pan-fry alone can dry and shrink asparagus before the inside softens, leaving it tough and unevenly cooked

Getting myself some asparagus pee. Cheers

skin the bottom and dab aloe vera gel, stick in the ground along the fence east or west side. You'll be waiting 3 years before you can harvest but you'll have free asparagus for 30 years.

    Eww!!

  • Best combo with steak!

Does it come with cuttlefish, or vanilla bean paste

    Why do people eat this?

    • Like many things in life I like to suck on them and then spit them out. The same applies to chips. That way it's healthy, as I'm not swallowing them.

      • For Urolagnia as well!

  • "I love the smell of Asparagus in the morning!!!'..lol
