  • is there such a product on the market that combined the functionality of a laser measure tool (for distance/area/angles), with projecting laser level?

  • +2

Anyone have this and can provide feedback?

    • +3

I’ve had this for about five years. It’s a fairly handy tool for indoor use, though the range, span and brightness aren’t great for outdoors. It’s more rugged than I expected, I’ve dropped it a few times and keep it in my tool bag, but still works.

      • Thanks, got one!

        • You won't regret it at that price. Enjoy

I have the green laser version and agree with Opt, very handy to have for various tasks.

I’ve used mine for hanging series of picture frames, tv mounts, shelves, kitchen cabinets and aligning furniture (I’m not ocd I swear…)

      • Do you find the green laser more useful maybe?

        • +1

Not especially - the green is brighter and more visible indoors, but will be even worse outside due to the wavelength.

Unless you’re using it in a very bright indoor environment, need a very wide run or on a surface with a lot of red in it, I’d be surprised if it made a tangle difference worth spending significantly more. If price difference is negligible go for it.

@SanguinarySeraph: I don't need one right away, so maybe this is a better option when I do?

            https://amzn.asia/d/1VLuQGj

            Does full 360deg, and green

            • +1

@kulprit: If you need 360deg, possibly.

I opted for Bosch as I figured it was a safe bet for reliability/calibration without spending much - not to say that a cheaper alternative wouldn’t be fine.

      • +1

        I have the green laser

I have the red, but the green is better for visibility/range.
Even Bosch says on their site for the green one:

Green laser technology for up to 4x better visibility than red laser lines even under bright lighting conditions

      • Thanks, got one!

    • I have this and it works well for basic home use. The line isn't as bright or as thin as my better ones but it gets the job done, definitely well enough to make sure pictures or TVs are level.

    • +1

Are you practising to be a cat-burgler in an European museum?

    • Yeah I have it and love it.

    • I was able to draw some lines to mount some "floating" shelves around my room. Tripod mount worked well. Self-leveling to a certain extent.
Well worth it for sub $50. I think i got this in a previous ozbargain deal.

    • +1

does not stack with the code.

      • +1

Thanks for letting me know. Updating comment.

  • How does the tool project straight? Does it have a self levelling feature?

    • +2

Does it have a self levelling

      Yes

  • +2

Nice find. I bought one. Might only use it once or twice a year for the odd job, but a small price to pay to alleviate my OCD.

  • Is there one with a tripod?

    • +3

They do sell them in bundles with tripods but it has a standard thread so you could use any cheapie.

    • +1

Honestly if you're using this once a year (like me), a trashy $18 tripod will do. I've used $200+ tripods at work, but for home i have a cheaper. My soul cringes as I adjust it, but does perfectly fine if you're not tracking a moving object. I consider it a plus that this doesn't include a tripod - that way you are free to choose a cheaper or god tier one yourself. If you have camera gear, then you can reuse your fancy tripod :)

  • +3

I really badly needed one for the DIY project over the last 3 months. Guess, I got one now for a future project. Buy first, think later…the ozbargain way

  • +16

I bought it, and then rearranged everything on the walls of the house to highlight its purpose and prevent my wife from abusing me for buying random things.

  • +2

Does this have a standard thread for a tripod mount later if needed?

Edit: too slow someone already answered. Thanks!

    • +1

      What's the answer?

      • +1

4 comments above. SanguinarySeraph says "They do sell them in bundles with tripods but it has a standard thread so you could use any cheapie."

  • +1

    accuracy (+/-0.8 mm/m)

Accuracy isn't that great but perhaps OK for $41.48.

  • I don't have this one, but these are super handy, one of those tools you ask yourself why you didn't buy it sooner.

  • Is the auto level just a gravity based leveller? I have one and the laser wobbles if you cause any vibration

    • Not sure of the mechanism, but it’s absolutely susceptible to vibration.

    • not sure on the mechanism, but if you bump it, it will try to self level. But it will still be wobbly so make sure you put it on something real stable.

  • Thanks looks handy

  • +1

i have this from a previous deal. didnt really need it UNTIL a few weeks later and was doing some laser alignment of doors and picture frames on walls.

hella handy and a tripod is a bonus to get the most out of it, that i already had from another deal.

  • don't know why but i got one…😂😅
    thanks OP

    • -1

Same… Now to find a purpose. Maybe do what the guy underneath is doing. Put up garage shelf to put this on.

  • +1

    Previously owned by Umbrella corporations

  • Thanks OP, I want to put up some shelves in the garage so this will come in very handy. Will be nice to then store this on the shelves it help build

  • +7

The biggest issue with these tools is you find out the rest of your house isn’t square….
So your picture is perfectly level but looks slightly off due to the the door frame or roof being slightly off lol.

    • +1

      100% this.

      • Worked in signage for many years. General rule of thumb:

"If it looks straight. It is straight."

Basically ignore the level and eyeball it. It's more important that it looks correct amongst it's surroundings than being laser level.

    • +1

There are definitely situations where you should follow the house/ground and not keep things perfectly level

  • 👍🏻

  • Tempting, and would have bought if I didn't already have some big laser level Ina blow mould case from 15 years ago from Aldi. It's fine to use but I expect I don't use it anywhere near as much simply because it's bulky and a hassle

  • +1

$49 last deal quite long ago. Got one back then. Tested it and it was good. Just haven't made use of it since.

  • This might be a dumb question. But let's say your ceiling/floor is not perfectly level. And say you are hanging three pictures next to each other. Would this tool still provide a line to follow to ensure each picture is level to the eye? I.e. In line with ceiling. I would typically run a string line to ensure things are eye level. My assumption is this tool may project a line that is technically level but is not able to be adjusted in the way I'm describing

    • Never mind. Can see comments further up that seem to answer this…

  • Thanks, lazer cube will come in handy around the house and work.

  • This is one product where the cheap-ass version is much better value. I bought a $15 laser level from Amazon a while back and it does a great job, can't imagine any advantage I'd get for the extra $30.
