Aggressive people from energy companies

How do you stop the people knocking your door and telling you that they are from blablabla energy company and they can save your energy bill by up to 30% off and demanding to see your energy bills aggressively.
The most annoying thing is they came around dinner time.

After my 2 experiences with 2 'kind and polite reps' from Origin I believe next time my first words will be F*** Off instead of excuses.

  • I tell them that I do not do any verbal contracts, I am happy if they send me some information to read. They say something like there is a 10 day cooling off period. I just say sorry I am not permitted to do any verbal contracts. Game over.

    • What's a verbal contract? They'll talk their way around this one.

When they come around they ask for your phone number. Then a representative calls you. They try and get you to accept a verbal contract on the phone and then send you a welcome pack. I told them I don't do verbal contracts over the phone and asked if they could send me some information. They said they did not have the capacity to do that or an email. I said it is ridiculous that they can send me a welcome pack but not information. I told them to never call me again or send anyone over. I only accept information in the post to read over without being pressured into accepting anything. Energy Australia formerly known as Tru-Energy in SA.

  • Saw this on Sydney Morning Herald today. Looks like both Energy Australia and AGL are withdrawing from door to door sales, but there are still some retailers doing it.

    • Probably because Energy Australia is now using ACN Pacific, a company that convinces people to part with $450 so that they can nag family and friends into signing up

What I hate most of all is the way these doorknockers deceptively engage you.
Him: We've been getting complaints about over charging on electricity in the area and just need to check your bill
Me: I'm not interested in changing my energy provider.
Him: Oh we won't be changing your energy supplier.
Me: So which energy retailer do you work for?
    Him: "XYZ" energy retailer
Me: I'm not interested in changing my electricity biller.
Him: Don't you want to save money?

Every single time, that is how they come on. They make it sound like they are not actually a salesperson and that they are actually from the energy company. If you were none the wiser, you could be easily tricked into signing up. So it gets me really mad when they use that approach. Especially for those people who are too polite to tell them to F-off.

It could just be how they are trained by their employers? But I would be more 'polite' if they were up front honest about who they were.

(sorry, I have needed to express this for the last few years)

The first step in door-to-door selling is to not sound like you're selling something. Best if you sound official and make it seem like you're doing the mark a favour.

http://donotknock.org.au/ - You can print out your own sticker - I have put one on my door and my parents as well - and they have had a significant reduction in unsolicited door knockers.

nothing to add, except i get 20% of my bill due to working for an energy company ;-) whooohhooooooooooooooooo

  • Say "Sorry, we're Amish"

I went for a job interview at one of these companies. They were dodgy as and stated that they will not pay any wage, 100% commission. A quick search and I found that most people work there for 2 months before they see any commission at all. But that's another story.

  • did someone say…

    dramatic entrance

    Blablabla?
