  • Just sent you an email regarding my order as paypal didn't let me add a note. We're extremely happy with ordering from you guys. Thank you.

    • I also found there is no way of leaving a message, so have done the same

    • Rep, can you do a deal with a grinder also? Great price on the beans

    • Glad you enjoyed, thanks for feedback :-)

Initial massive markups and inflated prices on beans. Same MO as that Bay Beans guy. But priced at 50 per cent off it's a good deal for freshly roasted coffee beans delivered to your door.

I won't comment on pricing structure and marketing model used, hence why I don't vote positive either. People can make up their own minds.

    • +2

I know what you're saying, but it's a pretty standard pricing model, make high profit from those who don't care about looking for bargains and lure in those that do. I see what you're saying that Manna/Bay Beans are often discounted but they're discounted price is still good value, especially once shipping is considered.

I'm not taking the piss, but where can we get good beans at less than $22.50/kg?

PS. Just ordered another 2kg, completely satisfied with the last order. I love that all the bags are resealable and have valves.

      • +1

I already said in my post it's good value so not sure why the question? (I was expecting the negs)

You also have to consider it's bulk pricing, they won't send you 1 kg for $22.50. Now that would be a good deal!! Rep, how much to send me 1 kg? That would be the real test for determining value!! You don't see too many people buying 2 kg from their local favourite roaster. The most I usually see people buy is 1 kg. 2 kg is too much for me, I can't keep it fresh long enough for my use.

Nonetheless, as I initially said, it's a good deal.

I don't consider it a standard pricing model unless you are Gerry Harvey.

      • Thanks, we appreciate your custom and are please that you are enjoying the coffee. Have a great weekend :-)

  • Just ordered mine after noticing I needed more beans as I ground this mornings cuppa. Thanks OP, with free delivery it really is a bargain with the only blank spot being how they taste but that'll be answered soon hopefully.

  • +1

Not sure I could cope if I ran out of beans in the morning! difficult for that to happen now days though ;-)

Having said that, after roasting the beans need to sit for a couple of days before they are good to drink to allow the flavours to develop. This is because they continue to release carbon dioxide. If I forget to keep some aside for myself that have had that time to develop then it is still possible to run out of coffee

  • +4

Can we please, please get some bargains on smaller amounts? We only make 2-4 cups per day and 2kg is way too much. I suspect many other people are in the same boat

    • +1

Hi Lounge Lizard, the problem with smaller quantities is that standard Aus Post costs $12.50
I will however run a smaller deal soon :-)

      • Thanks mate

      • +1

        How soon? twiddles thumbs

      • I'm a sole coffee drinker in my house and only buy 250gr packs as it takes me up to 2 weeks to get through. A deal like this would be a waste for me as it would get stale. How about 2x 250 / 1x500 for something like $20 delivered ?

      • Mike_Mav,

There is no chance you will ever get 1 kg of freshly roasted beans for $20 delivered. Postage cost is one of the main factors. Even without postage I would be surprised if you can find anywhere in Australia 1 kg of freshly roasted beans for $20.

The reason that mannabeans can offer this current deal is because it's a bulk transaction.

In the best case scenario I imagine maybe $25 delivered but that it being very optimistic—in the real world maybe something closer to $30 delivered.

If mannabeans can do $25 for 1 kg delivered than I am their biggest fan. I doubt they can do it but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

    • Rep, when you say "Free Delivery" is it actually free delivery or is the delivery cost absorbed into the price? If it really is free delivery than the original value of this deal is actually over $100 right?

Otherwise it should read "Including Delivery".

  • Is freezing the coffee bean the best way for storage and is the valve to allowed gas to escape? Why?

    • Mannabeans will probably be best person to answer this, but there are differing opinions on whether you should freeze or not. I've tried freezing, and don't think it's any better than simply storing the beans in a cool, dark, dry spot in a sealed container.

One-way valves are supposed to let CO2 gas out of the bag while preventing O2 getting into the bag. Oxygen is the main culprit behind the staling of coffee and packaging is an attempt to extend the freshness of the beans. Again, opinions are divided on the efficacy of the valves

    • I don't know if this is BS or not, but I was told by somebody who did a coffee barista course that they were told the best place to store beans is in a wine cooler (fridge).

    • the enemy of freezing is condensation + picking up fridge smells. Personally I would not do it.

      • vacuum seal it then probably, 2-3 days after roasting so that all the CO2 is gone?

        • Yeah, freeze is good, as long as you do it in sealed batches and defrost fully before opening and using that batch.

        • +2

I freeze my excess Nescafe Blend 43 and seems to be fine, I buy in bulk and don't want it to lose its aroma and flavour before I get through it.

        • You are joking, right?

  • Looks good! I want to try it :)

  • Thanks, just bought some!

I have to share about this company.

Recently I bought some coffee through these guys on a similar 50% deal. They sent the order off within a couple of days but the courier lost it (using the tracking code that they provided it showed that the package was in completely the wrong spot and hadn't moved from there for 2 weeks). I was too busy to pursue it any further so I let it go thinking it would eventually show up. I got a phone call from Manna beans, the guy said he had "stumbled" across my order. Even though it wasn't their fault that the package was lost, he sent out the beans again, express post and didn't charge a cent. He said that even if the old beans arrived, they would no longer be fresh and so new beans were a must.

It's pretty rare to see that kind of pride displayed by a company in their product. The 2 packages arrived one day after the other so I was left with a lot of coffee but the quality is outstanding. Indian tiger mountain A is my current bag. Surpasses the local boutique coffee bean place (which charges >$30/500g). I also sent some coffee and an aeropress to my mother for xmas with these guys and it was delivered quickly.

I don't think I'll be buying coffee from anywhere else.

Not affiliated with the company, I can't even remember the name of the guy who called.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us and for the positive vote. We are happy you got your caffeine hit and are enjoying the coffee ;-)

  • I got a Kambrook KES110 from Kmart for ~$80, I got some Grinders Coffee Espresso on the way with it as I only had a few dollars left over after the purchase. I'm not sure if the coffee machine actually has an effect on the flavour apparently it has a very low pressure compared to other machines. Can anyone help me out with this? I guess I just want a good flat white that isn't going to cost the bank. Am I looking at instant coffee or should I get something around the $300 range, I just don't have the time to do the research.

I'm gonna guess I shouldn't have gotten the espresso but something more run of the mill? maybe a better brand of coffee?

I also noticed the first third of the dripping coffee that comes out of the machine is very dark while the last third of dripping coffee is almost see through is that also normal?

The coffee just seems to be flavourless except for a bitter flavour that seems to be accompanied by a slight burnt taste.

Kambrook review http://www.productreview.com.au/p/kambrook-kes110.html (I haven't had any discoloured water when I've just run it through with no coffee so I'm not sure what the first guys problem was who gave a review, I'm pretty sure he must have plugged it in without water and overheated the plastics I noticed it continues to heat even if all the water has escaped the vessel)

    • Hi Voolish, I had a look at the coffee machine you have and you should still be able to get a good cup of coffee out of it. Do you grind your own coffee or do you buy ground? Having the correct grind will certainly play a big factor in producing a decent cup and I personally grind pretty much as fine as I can so that I only just get a constant flow of coffee coming out. It should ideally take about 25 sec to pull the shot.

Another big factor is obviously the coffee you buy. Coffee is only really fresh for a couple of weeks and then will start to lose it's quality and flavour characteristics. We roast fresh to order to ensure that you get a great quality coffee.

      • I bought it ground from coles, it doesn't have a grind date on a best before date which 11/2014. It's also marked as full strength. It says that it's locally roasted on the packet but with a multinational chain like coles I assume local to them means within Australasia.

    • I might just get two of these before, both came with a pack of vittoria ground coffee the first one worked flawlessly for years and then my roommate left :P the second one wouldn't suck air in through the little valve on the side once the water was out so it would just get sucked back in at cooling and the coffee it did produce had grinds in it which just ended in me wishing I'd gotten the good one.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Cup-S-Steel-Stovetop-Espresso-C…

I've used one of these is it called a percolator or a caffettiera?

      • I guess I like the simpler device because I know how to use it. The Kambrook KES110 on the other hand heats only when water is directed out of the machine either through steam for the milk frother or for the coffee. I wish it would hold the pressure and release it when I wanted it too and stop heating if it's going to run out of water.

You should check out the Aeropress, it makes fantastic coffee: http://www.mannabeans.com.au/cart/products/

I see these manna beans and bay beans deals come up all the time but never buy them because my local roaster is great and supplies me 1KG @ $30/kg. 2KG is too much for a lot of people.

    • Exactly. Good quality, freshly roasted beans can be had nearly anywhere for $30 per 1 kg.

Even mannabeans commented that the quality and flavour characteristics of the beans degrades within 2 weeks.

Unless you DO use bulk amounts of coffee I don't see the point of saving a few dollars to buy in bulk and sacrifice quality. Is it a bargain if the quality reduces over time? Price point is not the only indicator of a bargain.

If mannabeans can deliver to my door 1kg of decent fresh beans for around $25-$30 I might consider it a bargain.

Just a tip: if you're in Brisbane, go to a Merlo Torrefazione (I think also BarMerlo) with your friend or partner and order a 200g tin of beans or ground coffee for around $8.00 (if you bring your own Merlo tin you get a $1.00 discount). You and your friend will be offered a FREE coffee each (take away or have your coffee there served in proper crockery). Now that is a bargain—and fantastic coffee (Merlo are consistently winning national awards). Added to this is the heavenly experience of taking in the aromas of coffee beans being roasted in real time or having just finished being freshly roasted. That's what I imagine heaven to be like :).
