    • portable dick power?

      • can you recharge them? how long does it take to recharge dick?

        • usually a couple of hours, but it can be quicker sometimes.

  • Nothing worse than a flat dick

    • or one that only lasts 30 seconds…
Can anoyone comment on the quality of these?

Anyone interest in these batteries please consider buying a recharger and rechargeable batteries. They are a cost effective investment and a greener solution.

    • How does trying to re-charge Alkalines compare with doing the same to NiMH cells?

(Which have to be recharged sooner / oftener, ie, in same application?

Which can be recharged more times, through their working lives? etc.)

If you get NiMH (and don't need the highest mAh rating possible go for LSDs (low self discharge, also called ready to use) Hold their charge for much longer, but generally top out at around 2000mAh.

I have a recharger I bought a while back that can do alkalines, with varying success. As long as its used to top up a lightly used battery rather than a depleted cell, can work quite well. However, quite a few leaky batteries, from memory the DSE's didnt like it at all, had the odd leaky GP PowerCell, so far the bunnings Vartas have been ok. Have had leaky duracells and energizers too along the way.

That said, these days I wouldn't recommend recharging alkalines. With the LSD's available now, they are a much better option.

  • I was just looking to buy some AA batteries too, thanks!

    IKEA has 10-packs of their Alkaline AA & AAA's (10 of either size) for ~ $3.00 in-store.

Who needs to pay DSE -extra- to ship, ie, if you have an IKEA nearby…?

    Just buy 4 x 10-packs (just under $12, at IKEA) & Bob's your uncle! ;-)

PS In previous year, DSE had these 40-packs to buy in-store (for ~ $7 each, AA's)

    • Ikea's AAs are $3.99 for 10, unless you're an Ikea Family member which makes it $2.99 for 10.

If you don't need a ton of them, you can also get a pack of 30 at Bunnings for $8.98. That's 29.9c per battery, same as the Ikea Family price. The DSE deal is 7.99+4.95 for 40, i.e. 32.4c per battery.

There are way more Bunnings outlets than Ikea too!

      • Was going to say the same thing, the Bunnings Varta AA 30 packs @ $8.98.
Don't think they are as good as your Duracells or Energizers, but guessing at least as good as the DSE batteries. Tried the IKEA ones before and don't think they last as long as the Vartas.
