I can't see how the dentist's religion is relevant.

    Spam?
How is it any reasonable to pick a dentist by price?
Let's say it is, then anything more than $0 is just another bill to pay….

It is not pick a dentist by price , basically I used to pay 180 and they charged me $99 today because of the promotion and I thought I will share it.
Your second comment doesn't make any sense .

Merrylands is the last place anyone should trust.

  • man, how prices have changed! i remember years ago there was this dentist in Campsie Sydney who did a good descale for like $45! now you're looking at $200+! either the cost of the consumables has gone up around 300% or they're probably in cahoots with the health insurance companies to get more people to take up insurance!

Descale refers to removing hard deposits off kettles, pipes etc caused by minerals in water.
I think you're referring to a scale and clean.

Not that price would be the major determinant on my choice of dentist, but this does seem like a good price (albeit, in theory, for new customers only). I recently went to my dentist (nowhere near Merrylands), and had pretty much this exact same list of services. Check, clean, two dental x-rays (one each side) and topical fluoride treatment. I can't remember the full breakdown, but I recall on the receipt that the x-rays were $40 each, of which $20 for each one was covered by my health fund.

Can't remember the exact full cost, but it was $200+, of which my payment was somewhere around $100 after the health fund contribution. So if OP got all this for $99, that sounds like pretty good value (assuming there was no health fund contribution involved).

But to repeat my first point, I'd happily pay a few dollars more for a dentist that I was comfortable and confident with (without suggesting that the OPs dentist isn't such a dentist).

    • Totally agree with what you said , I will still be going to the same dentist even if they charge me their normal price.

  • Dudes keep it simple! Too much dribble, Even if it is from a numb mouth. Save the essays please..

Okay, I'll dumb it down for you…

A dentist is not someone I'd want to haggle with, so I happily pay what he asks, but this seems like a good deal.

      Still too essayie?

Personally, I liked the 'essayi' version better:) It said a lot about you: like you're male, caucasian, over 60 years, been to uni, probably suffers from high blood pressure …I am close?

People under 40 get dental x-rays… don't they?

I'll make an appointment Monday to get my blood pressure checked.

        • yes they start x-ray when your bout 14-16 from memory. and yearly xray to show how your teeth are growing, thanks to those my dentist found my teeth growing in the wrong direction.

        • it wasn't the x-rays that gave your age away. Its the way you express yourself:vocabulary, sentence constructions, flight of ideas …etc Elementary, my dear :)
Also the fact that you describe people under 40 as "they" and not 'we' or 'us'…and came across as slightly defensive when u said it.

I might be wrong about the high blood pressure, though. You're obviously a coffee drinker..and there's been a few studies that suggest that coffee drinkers (2-3 cups a day)have more elastic blood vessels than those who don't.So.. fingers crossed ,Discostuuuuu:) Hope,it goes well for your test on Monday :)We're very fond of u here, oh Wise Old Man;)

I actually like the essays lol. Gives me a complete picture. I don't really get anything from comments that just say "This is great" or "no good," without an explanation.

      *Edited for spelling.

  • YES much better lamo

I'm not sure if you would consider this a bargain. There are all sorts of these kinds of offers around, and the truth is, private practice is business and I'd hope they have your health at interest, not your pocket. Depending on your needs, a decent scaling should be 30 minutes with a patient with good oral hygiene. I'm a practicing oral health therapist, and I usually have patients booked for periodontal treatment and maintenance for 50 minutes 1 hour sessions, excluding radiographs and examinations. Patients with periodontal disease generally need regular maintenance depending on severity and are booked for 3, 6 or 12 months intervals.

  • My local dentist charges me $65 (before private health insurance) for checkup + clean.
No x-rays though (didn't know x-rays were part of a checkup).

No idea what fluoride is, but that minty crap he cleans my teeth might be it.

    • Yes, I assume that the minty crap would be the fluoride treatment.

    • +3

Fluoride is gel dispensed in trays, you hold them in your mouth for a couple of minutes, spit out and then told not to eat or drink for 15-30 minutes depending on your dentist. It's a preventative treatment. Minty paste is for polishing therefore they're two different treatments.

      • Are you a dentist?

  • Marylands

  • Merry lands?! I hope ur provided bullet proof vests while in the waiting room.

I think this is available at all Primary Health Care Dentists, including Newcastle and NSW Central Coast.

    It's a chain.
