Best price on the market, or should i say "only price on the market.
I Would actually pay that price from the looks of the specs, but may save allot by waiting a while after launch.

I agree EB had the Wii U at $600 for ages and on release I think it was ~$430-450 for the premium console… I'm waiting for the Wii U to come down in price, I don't think I'm gonna pay top dollar when the games aren't even really out yet. I mean yeah it's got mw3 but devs haven't really figured out how to use that weird tablet thing or if they should just dump it. I honestly think the normal wiimote and nunchuk are awesome and pretty much solved using hand eye coordination instead of joysticks, the brand new wireless classic pro controll (xbox controller look alike) just tops the cake for people that prefer that.

Import Playstations (the original) were on sale for $1100 in Australia in 1994. It was released in Japan for ages before being available here.

in total i paid $1700 for two ps3
in today terms, i can buy 6x with a larger hd

I had a quick look at all the prices on PSN and they seemed way more expensive than buying including shipping physical copies off eBay. Many cases just over double the price. I know they have some good deals if you sign up to PSN Plus but it seems pointless signing up for that membership when I only play a couple of hours once every month on average
I know your pretty much joking, but going digital would mean many would miss out in Australia not everyone has internet and when they do they don't have an exorbitant amount of data to use. Now I'm not sure but I'm guessing the average household internet plan is about 50-100gb and if this is the case I'm sure that would limit sony's reach with some games requiring nearly 45gb thinking about Killzone 3 or was it another title cannot find the article where I found those sizes and you cannot check PSN because I think games over 20gb aren't available on PS3 PSN, as in they have to be bought from shops.
and well, you would also have to think about all the employees losing their jobs at EB Games, just need to find a better way of sacking who ever makes the decision on their prices.

EB of course. That's the real reason they do something like this. Take everybody's $50 deposit, sit it all in one bank account and skim the interest. They literally lose nothing from doing this, and gain a whole lot. Especially if every one of those customers ends up going through with the purchase.
if you're wondering if this is legal you should ask the tax office for your interest back on all your PAYG tax they've been holding on to. They won't laugh, they'll audit you. Then they'll laugh.

I don't see this selling too well if it is actually released at that price point. I doubt (but wouldn't be surprised) if Sony was that stupid. The PS3 didn't sell all that well until after its first round of price drops.
This is just EB Games trying to get some suckers to pre-order early and make some short term profit/interest.

Based on the PS2 and PS3, there is a possibility.
I'm guessing $650 for the base model, $750 for premium.
Sony would be stupid to price it at $800 AUD.

another reason launch prices were so high was due to ps3 blu ray drives new and expensive and ps2 same thing with dvd, don't see a reason why they should maintain such a high price
These price points are crazy talk. The average consumer has seen the price corrections on these consoles (PS3 and Wii especially) way too many times now to buy early. I mean the PS3 can now be bought sub $200. You can pick up a Wii for $50 or less.
The only people who are going to buy this are hardcore gamers.
You do realise it took the PS3 and Wii 6 years to drop to those prices.

US pricing $399 to $499 (if 2 models)
AU pricing "should" be no more than $499 to $599 if AUD is still at ~parity with USD by launch.
