Emirates - any international processing fees for credit card transactions?

Hi all,

Just planning some travel with Emirates and was wondering if the payment is processed through an Australian Emirates office or overseas. The Online Booking FAQ on their website seems to suggest the payment might be processed in Dubai and attract an international transaction fee but I don't remember this being the case last time I flew with them some years ago.

So would anyone who has flown with Emirates recently be able to let me know if they were charged an international transaction fee for their booking? I could avoid this altogether by paying with a 28 degrees but would prefer to earn the points with my regular card if I won't have to pay any extra fees :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi mate, I flew emirates Bangkok - Hong Kong. They charged me in Thai Baht so it looks like they charge in the origin countries currency so if your flying out of Australia your going to pay in AUD.

    • thanks for the info :)

if you book a flight online originating in AU or via their call center in AU, they will bill you in AUD and there is no fee.

    • thanks, sounds like it might just be a mistake on the website. I was worried that it would be a Dubai-based booking office processing the transaction and I'd get one of those nasty foreign transaction fees but probably an Aussie-based office like most of the big airlines do :)

Could it be possible that you were logged on to their Dubai based website rather than the Australian site. It could even be possible that their booking server is based in Dubai, but may charge you in AUD in recognition from your location.

  • flew SYD-DXB return in October last year. No credit card transaction fee, used AMEX and was charged in AUD exact fare as quoted on website.
