  • Been looking at the Swann stuff myself, their reconditioned systems seem a good price as well.

Guys this is junk equipment. Suggest do your research, google etc. These cameras are only 400TVL which is really…..really low end equipment..sort of like looking through beer goggles. Golden rule with CCTV is that if you cannot identify the perp then it is of no use. Very expensive visual deterrent. Price and advertised saving is just ridiculous.

    Just putting this out there.

    • I was also looking for a security system any good i/p security system ?

    • anything you recomend
interested in buying one but no idea where to start

  • These are no better than an 8Ch with 8 cameras PVR and postage for $199.00 on eBay.

    Just has the 'swann' logo.

    • It'd probably sell better without the 'swann' logo. How is this company still in business selling stuff that would have been considered mediocre at best, 10 years ago.

But I agree, this is worthless junk. $29.99 should be the price, I'd buy it as a deterrent and not bother hooking it up.

  • Any suggestions on HD quality cameras that use cat5/6 for inside and outside. Looking for some for the house and want wired.

  • any recommendations? from ebay or elsewhere, looking for 4ch cameras cheers

  • any recommendations for IP Cameras?

  • I'm playing around with some dahua cctv equipment now excellent quality in ipcams and the nvr system with built in poe works great.

dahua is one of china's largest cctv manufacturer.. mostly re-badged for other brands.

cant buy directly need to source a reseller mostly from aliexpress or similar.

Its not cheap so depends what you are prepared to pay.

    • What kind of quality is it?

To call this stuff 'junk' is a little harsh. Admittedly the claims in the notes are a little outrageous, but @ $299 it has an intended market and imho it meets those expectations. I bought, for my vet practice, a Swann system 7 years ago with 4 cameras and it cost $699. It hasn't missed a beat. Whilst it cannot be used to positively identify an unknown person, it has been used on occasion to show 'inappropriate' behaviour by known customers and to show customers that items were not left behind despite their vehement suggestion that staff had acquired them. It also helped with staff productivity !! It took an hour to install and is a great visual deterrent. I am an a/v junkie so started by researching all the equipment and possibilities out there but, once my head stopped spinning, I just gave up and bought the generic one. Maybe I got lucky but will be buying another one to replace this until I am proven otherwise.

  • Harsh… who are you kidding. This is junk. 400TVL cameras are no more than a toy and the price as I mentioned above ridiculous for such poor quality hardware. By your own post you mention that you cannot make the identity of a perp so what is the purpose of pissing such an amount of $ up against the wall. Want a deterrent purchase $20 fake cameras.

Most on here would be seeking a CCTV system for home security purposes and this just does not cut it and to say otherwise is a blatant lie. It appears that a 7 year old analogue system is fit for purpose for you and for the monitoring of your staff and that's fine but folks need to be made aware of the low end quality on offer here.

For business monitoring I am not sure why you would have purchased such a crap system anyway when there are Tax & insurance benefits for installing an appropriate CCTV package.

And how would I have solved the customer issues with a fake camera ?? You can't put a price on that and a more expensive camera would have made NO difference - except wasting my money. The hours I had wasted and would have continued to waste researching what camera was best and what dvr would have been better would have cost me more than the unit I bought. Obviously my time is worth a lot more than yours. While you are researching why not look up the definition of 'junk' and take a chill pill and realise what an overreaction your statements are.
Most people on OzBargain I believe are looking for a 'bargain' not researching quality CCTV systems for their home - there are plenty of other forums for that. I stated my situation as I thought it may be helpful for someone else - no lies just a statement of fact. Your comments are just inflammatory and seem purposely aimed at inciting a response.
Of course I don't know why I am bothering to respond to you as you are obviously one of these 'know it alls' that can't possibly see another side to an argument. Seen plenty of them in forums. Good luck to you in your future life…
