Psychology of Influence course $235 (was $395) at University of Sydney

OZBTPOF

Some people appear to have a knack for influencing others. Their persuasive skills appear to flow naturally and unconsciously – but they actually stem from principles anyone can learn to apply. By understanding these principles, you can get others to listen to you, persuade people to change their mind, shift the direction of a conversation, communicate a message effectively. This course is suitable for anyone who needs to engage and inspire others at work – including managers, sales staff, customer service providers, consultants and professionals.

  • How do we know if this is any good?

    http://cce.sydney.edu.au/tutor/24

Doesn't actually sound that good. She doesn't seem to have any corporate experience?

A masters in NLP - she should know what she's talking about…

Maybe we should ask if she browses ozBargain

      • +2

She's a "master practitioner" in a technique that isn't readily recognised by academia and has practically no empirical research to back it. The "master practitioner" title is probably given out by training companies accredited by some private body to give out that title.. we don't know what level of oversight over the testing and teaching criteria exists, does the recipient need to have research published in a peer-reviewed journal? Or can you just sit an online multiple choice test? This should not be confused with what is commonly referred to as a "masters" - that is a masters degree from a real university in a recognised, empirically backed discipline.

Her techniques may well work, but there isn't sufficient evidence to really give me any confidence. Based on that profile I probably wouldn't take a course taught by her on the "psychology" of anything.

Ah k I see your point - you're really good at explaining :)

          He probably took the course

        • ha cheers.. i did just notice she "is completing a masters in counselling". Though the fact that she buys into the NLP stuff still makes me hesitant.

      • Maybe we should ask if she browses ozBargain

Given the discount code of OZBTPOF, she probably does (or at least someone who admins the course does).

I've only got a few minutes to decide so I have to ask a quick favour - Any group discount on top if a few ozBargainers join?

Also Is this a one day course or ongoing?

Edit: the first half is using a false time restraint - that's the (admittably bad) joke

This deal is a scientific experiment to deduce the power of offering an apparent discount and see its effect.

    • Haha that was gold!

  • Good timing on a course like this, with all those rejected Valentine's Day proposals…

Edit: Oh! (Slaps forehead) This would be perfect for those price matching bargains at JB/OW/DSE that nobody seems to be able to get except the deals' OP.
