  • LOL, Gordon Ramsay my #@%…

i'm a little dubious of the sites quoted original price of $499 seeing as the 14 piece set of the same range retails for $188 -

    http://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Public/Royal-Doulton-Go…

Still seems like a good deal though

    • I'm a little dubious of the fact that Gordon Ramsay uses these in his own kitchens…Perhaps when the cameras are on he might…

      • The fact that he allows his name on the label to mislead those zombies out there for monetary gain speaks a lot about him.

Celebrity endorsement of products is everywhere. Singling out Ramsay is harsh.

I don't agree there is any misleading by Ramsay, he might have said "I would use them in my kitchens" doesn't mean he does. Such context appears to be used on wwrd. If it said "These knives are used in all Ramsay restaurants"…then you would have a legitimate beef.

        • True dat. Marco Pierre White advertises knorr/continental stock concentrates.. I doubt anyone believes he ever used pre-packed stock at any of his restaurants.

    • that one is 149 at that shop

  • With an election not too far away, should we organise a pitch-in and buy a set of these for Kevin Rudd? Payback :-)

        sexist much?

          How so?

    • Lol, will you be saying the same when Turnbull takes Tony's job?

If Liberals get in I hope to god that Tony is not leading them, because will be in for a big surprize from a small government.

  • I got given a set of these for my housewarming party. Very good quality knife set, the block is solid wood and very heavy. The knives are razor sharp and cut everything with ease. I dont know how long they will last now or how long they will stay sharp as i have only moved in 1 month ago. We will see!

    • I've got a set of homemaker knives that I got from Kmart 3 years ago. If you keep them sharp they will do just as good a job. Of course they are of lower quality but it's the care you take of them that matters. I dropped one and the tip bent rather than chipping the tile and if you need to cut through bone they will blunt quickly, however if it's just for home use and you keep them sharp they'll do fine.

      • how often are you cutting through bone?

        • Dexter?

edit: chaching! thanks for the 10% edwinlinwinin.

  • side note, i bought the santoku of the range just last weekend from the royal doulton store, it was RRP of 89$ for one knife, down to 22$ so i grabbed it …

very good and solid feel to the knife, it feels better than a global … felt a touch small to me … but not a deal breaker …
the scallops on the blade didn't work nearly as effectively as i would have expected (chopping onions meant I had to hold the onion segment down after every slide) …
the blade itself is sharp, but i dont think it comes from the factory properly sharpened (either that or the santoku blade doesn't have the right angle sharpening) … the steel itself seems to be very high quality (not that i'm an expert), i'd say more German style than the delicate Japanese soft blue-steel …

if you dont want the whole block, Royal Doulton @ Harbour Town (Adelaide) has a special on a chef knife, pairing knife and chopping board for 49$ …

    • blade you get with good knife i have $1000 block set before i was with my ex boyfriend. cheep in life never done it for me anymore want best at cheep price i can that why i am oz bargainer.

  • Do they swear at you everytime you chop something?

Found this interesting comment in Amazon.

  • Bought a set and two of the knives has rust on them when we opened the box. Can't believe it. Cheap set made in China and it can't be the original $499 knife set. I rather buy the discount knives from King of knives, the one I saw on discount and good quality - Royal Cardiff set.

    • shiiit… better check my box of knives… bought two of these havn't opened em yet…
