Same pixel density as the iPhone 4/4s (326PPI) - which was marketed as retina as well. Don't know the actual PPI to be considered retina but I'm guessing apple does

  • If the HTC one and sony xperia z specs come not out last month, I would have jumped on one of these. Great specs for a mid-range phone.

  • Should we call it 8GB ROM, my understand ROM means read only.

    • Correct, This isn't right.

The only reason the software is called "ROM" is because you don't ever change the software itself, just your own data portion on the storage.

what are they thinking? For roughly the same price, i would definitely choose the nexus 4 over this at anytime. nexus 4 have bigger screen, faster OS update, the only downside for nexus 4 is it dose not have momory slot for more storage.

    • That's a very big downside for some…

    • Unlike the Nexus 4, this has expandable storage and an FM radio. This is also cheaper than the Nexus 4 in the 1gb RAM variant. The nexus 4's bigger screen is offset by the fact that it has on-screen buttons, reducing the overall screen size, which the Huawei doesn't suffer from.

I find it amusing that an SGS3-beating phone is, in early 2013, only considered 'mid-range' haha.

  • Unless you need over 16Gb storage then the Nexus 4 is the far more obvious choice in this price range

Previously had a huewei u8800 and wouldn't go back again. No software updates. The Bluetooth had a range of 50mm, no kidding. The Wi-Fi reception was poor, about half my wife's HTC. But the worst is the mobile reception kept dropping out every half hour. Seem they skimped on components to keep price low.

    • second this. that is chinese style, cheaper price and cheaper quality at the same time.

  • Need to find out if Google Play is enabled if they ship directly from China.

  • gsmarena link comparing specs with the nexus 4 —> http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=5092&idPhone2=…

the huawei has FM radio and removable battery. the nexus 4 doesn't.

huawei has unlocked bootloader and mui is available for it. not sure about cm10/10.1 though

check this video for comparison of the chipset performance —> http://www.phonearena.com/news/Calves-and-quad-cores-Snapdra…

    • I've been using a U8800 for years quite happily but recently replaced it with a HTC Velocity because the U8800 began giving trouble after being dropped onto brick paving from my top shirt pocket. Does that mean I bricked it? :)

It has an unlocked bootloader and lots of support for different roms on XDA but I was never able to find a policy statement from Huawei aboot bootloader unlocking. Have they made anny announcement about it? Are all their phones released with unlocked bootloaders? Have all their past phones got unlocked bootloaders?

Wouldn't it be great if phonearena included bootloader status in their charts?! (Locked / Unlockable / Unlocked at time of release)

It's why I went for the HTC as a replacement because HTC have a policy statement about providing bootloader unlocking but I couldn't be sure about Huawei. I want to try Ubuntu "touch" linux phone system soon, maybe even dual boot a phone / tablet to use both Android and Ubuntu

Ugh, I wish people would stop calling high PPI devices 'retina displays'. Stupid Apple branding.

  • Why on earth would anyone buy Huawei for this price when a nexus 4 costs the same. Not a bargain by any stretch of the imagination.

  • You can easily mount a memory stick to a nexus 4 for additional memory. Well you can on nexus so I'd assuming its the same.
